45 deg f going in with the wind assistance, light rain. traffic was good, except one "ram" or "f150" truck driver passing a car from other direction, towards me. made it through, but an illegal too close for comfort, pass.
wind slowed my return trip, but the sun was coming out, traffic was cool, and i was in a positive zone.
may go again tomorrow, depending on how i feel. i left the bike loaded to go.... :-)

Such LOVELY weather! After the snowy long winter it feels so unreal... All the snow is gone! Time to change to slicks! Amazing.

It was awesome! I love the commute back and forth on day shifts! The ride in is on the street, but it's downhill and most of the (very minimal) traffic is going the other way. I waved to one of my coworkers, who was driving an ambulance emergent to the hospital, and he waved back. He saw me. WIN!

The ride back was great, too. Nice weather. A few of the trees are starting to get little buds on them.

Fine ride in this AM. The air is still thick with pollen, but other than that everything is peachy.

very nice ride this morning. I was a little chilly - it was 52F when I left at 6, but I only wore shorts and a t-shirt - I got used to it about halfway through my ride though. Looking forward to ride home this evening - supposed to get up to 70 today

Bit cool this morning, 38F with a 15mph wind. It was behind me for half the ride so that was nice.

Got dropped by another rider. I rarely see anyone, but passed three other riders this morning. The last one dropped me easily. In my defense he had about 20 years on me, and his bike wasn't festooned with fenders, racks, and loaded bags. Oddly, he kept switching between the sidewalk and the road. A practice I avoid. I wonder if he was a bike messenger, don't see them too often this far from the city, but I have seen them from time to time.

Mundelein swept the glass on the bike path over to the side. My complaints must have reached some sensitive ears. Maybe the grass crew will even pick up the broken bottles. One can only hope.

Today's commute, being the first commute of '08, was just lovely. It was cool this morning so rather than hassle with a complete change of clothes, I went semi-Fred (bike shorts under jeans). Afternoon attire depends on how much it warms up. Lovely ride in, lots of other commuters.

Lovely ride. Split lanes most of the way in and beat traffic up a hill (that's why I was splitting the lanes).

Colder than I expected at 30F, but still a nice ride.

50 degrees and overcast/foggy. I feel like I have a cold but decided that wasn't a good enough excuse so I rode anyway. I had a very nice ride. Hopefully the sun will come out today.

I was right hooked... tumbled to the ground and my elbow is a bit sore and swollen, but I am pretty sure I left a good gouge on his right rear quarter panel.. man it happened fast.. barely had a chance to get my fingers ON the brake levers, nevermind try to stop... just have to be aware aware aware of what is going on...

Wet this morning, started off luke warm and nice - ended up being pretty well soaked - I chose today as my first day to ride in shorts for the year too. That wasn't so much a problem, though my calves tightened up with the cold - my shoes/socks were soaked, and I wore only thin wool gloves which got soaked. I'm glad I made the call to stop and put my jacket on when I did

Despite the poor clothing/lack of waterproofing choice, wasn't a bad ride at all - the last 5 miles I sagged a fair bit, but got here in 2:10 of riding time (33 miles over relatively flat land) so only around 10 mins slower than last weeks full ride in.

Might not complete the full commute today, if it's still really wet out I don't think I'll bother due to not having a good waterproofing solution for my gloves - I can always put budget booties aka grocery bags over my shoes (which I regret not packing now ) - just wasn't all too enjoyable after mile 25, and I might go straight home and rest up for the night.

eek - watch yourself out there, make sure your elbow doesn't get unattended if it feels worse. Glad you're OK, though.

I nearly got the right hook myself this morning from a white Toyota Rav 4. I was just getting a hinky feeling about him so I backed off at the last minute and he passed right in front of my wheel. I noticed he put on his blinker after completing the turn. Hey, thanks for letting me know what you already did. Sheesh.

Anyway, other than that, it was a very pleasant ride in. Rode the Caldaro and it is just a pleasure to feel the lushness of Italian steel glide over the asphalt.

Yesterday was great! Great weather, about 5C, calm and sunny. Even made patching a tube on the way enjoyable. Switched to slicks (from studs) over the weekend and enjoyed less rolling resistance and higher speeds.
This morning I look out the window and everything is covered in snow. No conditions for slicks. I briefly considered taking the mountain bike, with its oversize knobbies and no fenders, but quickly settled for the truck. Riding in wet snow without fenders really sucks. I even considered getting out and engaging 4wd on the truck. Now in the afternoon all the snow has pretty much melted and I have high hopes for tomorrow. Spring in Iceland is really samples of every possible weather.
We're a one car family, the car is a modified SUV that we use for mountain/off road tours into the interior, as well as occasional trips in-city. Not the ideal car for commuting, but I'm a year round bicycle commuter and my wife walks to work.

First commute of the week for me (worked @ home the last two days). Uneventful. My back and hip appreciated the exercise and not sitting on the love seat at home with the laptop.

Pedestrians with deathwishes were out today. 6 near misses.. lots of deer-in-the-headlights looks. Was heading down Wall St and going around one of the security abutments when some guy stopped dead in his tracks and stared at me right in the 3' space I was trying to go. Thinking he didn't know what I was trying to do, I just track-stood (??) thinking he'd shift to one side. He just stands there till I'm like "could you move, please?"

And the nice weather means increased foot traffic on the bridge.. which means clusters of those double-wide strollers being pushed by women ignoring the directional arrows on the path and not paying attention. It's a little annoying when they walk side-by-side on the narrow part of the path and they don't move out of the way for anyone (bikers, walkers, runners, whatever).

It's getting warmer! I still have to wear cool-weather gear on the way in, but we're almost to the point of shorts and a light jacket on the ride in and heading home. Woot!

On yesterday's evening commute i incurred the wrath of the motoring public. I had no fewer than 3 incidents with motorists. Something was yelled at me, but i couldn't make it out at all and hence no entry in the yelling thread.

Oh well, nice ride in this morning. I discovered that a road i had thought was gravel was in fact paved (albeit poorly). So now i have no high volume roads to traverse.

my commute this AM went through today's torch route in SF. Early enough that the craziness had not yet started up but there were plenty of Tibetan flags. The return will go through not only the post Tibet/China torch craziness but also a Giants baseball game. Should be amusing.

Nice ride home yesterday - the rain has stopped! Hurrah! I rode home about 8pm, so the traffic was much lighter and I was able to zip through the city in double-quick time.

wind had subsided on the trip in, compaired to yesterday, though still misty, was warmer.
traffic seemed more participatory, muscles complained less!

home trip even better with breese push, sun peeping out, temp even warmer!

i saw 0.0, o, no other commuters again. was in local paper front page promoting bicycle use last week. this may have exited some of the honks/waves from people in cages that i noticed.
