Commute was cancelled this morning owing to a snowstorm of the "surprise buttsecks" variety... forecast last night was for cool and clear, revised at midnight to "light snow"... and I am looking out at over a FOOT of snow that has fallen in the last hour! (there's no snow anywhere else in the province!)

So yeah, I'm not making it to campus today. Luckily my group project is supposed to be emailed in, so we're all going to stay home and work on it over instant messenger.

the only thing I'm bummed about is that I forgot my goggles today. It wasn't snowing when I left home at about 6:30. 3/4 of the way in, I had to take off my glasses as they were caked in wet snow. It'll all be gone by the time I get home I'm sure.

there are days i wish i could just stay home and work by email...that way i could take a break and go ride and then come back and check the email again

Jeez, I walked the block back from the bus stop (I stood there for half an hour before giving up), heading into the wind, and pretty much immediately lost all visibility through my glasses!

It would be nice, wouldn't it? That's why I'm studying to become a psychologist. I want to be able to set my own schedule and to have the content of my work count for more than the precise time I do it. I especially want to get away from jobs where people are constantly looking over my shoulder and criticising how many bathroom breaks I take. (That tells me that those people did not have enough real work of their own to do!)

Absolutely gorgeous weather this AM, sunny and low 50s with a little breeze! I had the fastest commute of the year and really enjoyed the ride. Looking forward to temps flirting with 70 this afternoon. I may extend my ride home due to the great weather.

my partner and i want to start a business together in the future, we are hoping to open an arts studio for kids where we can teach about ceramics and i can teach drawing and painting
this would be really rewarding, doing something that matters more and doing something i feel more connected to

Cool and foggy but also great. I made one of my best times for a morning commute (which is always slower than the afternoon commute). We were supposed to get 5-10cm of snow last night so i was pretty pleased when we didn't.

Started out in the fog, and it was kind of cold. When I hit Reston, all of a sudden the sun came out, and I started getting too warm and had to peel off a layer or two. For the ride home, I expect to be in shorts .

Even though the sun was up and it was bright out, I still turned on my lights on account of the fog.

Other than that, I feel surprisingly refreshed after having ridden 18.5 miles (first actual commute in months). A good omen for the season.

Cool and fast. My favorite long cut has been made difficult to access by construction, so yesterday and today I gave up on the tortuous detouring and just took the shortest route from that point onward. A little nastier and louder but apparently a lot faster, based on change in final avg mph when I get to work! Also, spring break and the grandparents are out visiting with the kids so no kiddie errands in am or pm. Those are also murder on avg mph.

I wondered why people were looking at me funny on the ride in today, after 20km in the snow this morning my helmet looked like this.

Reading the entries for today, it sounds like it was a fast commute day for most of us. Me too, me too! I thought it was because of the Excedrin Migraine I took before leaving, but maybe it was just a fast day all around.

I took a different route home yesterday, and it puts me on the one road where I'm willing to filter to the front at a red light. One car was stopped really close to the gutter pan; as I approached it I noticed the passenger's window was open. I couldn't resist! As I came up from behind I said, "Move over please," and was rewarded by seeing the passenger jump out of her seat and exclaim, "OH!"

S******ing, I went on my merry way and made my right turn at the light.

Then about a half mile further up a guy in a Porsche Boxster was pulling out of a parking lot on my right. He stopped, saw me, hesitated for less than a second, and then started to go. Too late. He realized he wasn't going to make it ahead of me and slammed on the brakes. I just gave him The Look.

Well, I decided to not be a weenie and headed over to the Uni on my bike anyways. Roads were OK once you got out of residential, but the flakes were thick and fast (it's still snowing), and all the slush spray from cars didn't help. Now all my riding gear is sitting in my locker sopping wet. Gotta love Calgary springs.

Very light wind, crisp spring weather, sunshine, my ride this morning would have been perfect if it weren't for me hitting every single red light. >.<

Heh. That'll larn ya. My route takes me along the edge of the reservoir and I don't fancy falling in, so I do wimp out sometimes

Left work early at the peak of rush hour. HUGE tailwind. Split lanes on a 6 lane road using all three lanes on my side, both dashed lines, plus the double yellow. Must have passed 500 metal herd beasts on a two mile stretch. Got one horn blown at me - ironically - when I was far right doing what The Law likes. So I moved to the dashed line on my left and waved the black SUV by on my right. He got about two car lengths up and turned right! That's why I don't do what The Law likes most of the time. Had I moved to the gutter he would have right-hooked me for sure.

Sweet ride!

JHTC! My wife got out of bed this morning before I did, and when she saw all the snow on the ground, she actually screamed. Loudly, at that. "How bad could it be?" My answer: "****!!!" I didn't bother shaving, and instead jumped in the shower, then dressed and switched wheelsets from slicks to studs. We got away from the house at the usual time and I only lost a couple of minutes on the way in. I would have been faster, but the snow covered my glasses entirely in the first two blocks. After that, I just sort of squinted. The big immobile shapes were parked cars, and the big mobile shapes were moving cars. The really big immobile shapes were houses - I think.

I'm going to head home soon, and after not snowing for a while after noon, the heavens have opened up again. Not the giant flakes of this morning, but it is horizontal.

Birds chirping, sun shinning, and a cool breeze. What else could I possibly ask for?

"Very windy with mixed snow, sleet (ice pellets) and rain." Other than wet feet, wet hands and low visibility, it was a great ride. Not many bikes out today.

The weather was super nice today. DROVES of bike commuters. There was actually a line after the Manny Bridge waiting for the light to change.

It only stays perfectly cool like this for several weeks before the heat comes. I'll take heat over the chill anytime. Perfect commute. Sunny and 72oF. Light breeze. Good mood over Gotham.
