3 commutes in a row...
Score: 12 minutes late (disorganization, lost bike clothes) - getting better! Workbound: Dry and calm this morning, but some puffy clouds kept it from being sweaty hot. Parts did not fall off my bike this time. Homebound: Rain down at the airport was making its way upslope as I set out, and the sprinkles finally caught me about a block from home. Great timing. I had to downshift twice on the big hill, which tells me that the prior to that I was pushing it harder than I did the previous two days. Fortunately my lowest gear on the middle chainring is adequate for that hill. |
After a chilly morning yesterday, back to warm 65f (18c). Rode between storms today, and will see if I get lucky going home.
|
A very nice ride in this morning. I wore a rainjacket as a top layer as we are supposed to have spot showers again today. Though I did not see any and I hope not to see any on my way home this evening. We must have had them last evening also as when I was riding home I saw wet roadway but no rain. Hey its all good as I long as its not on my head. The weather was in the mid fifties this am and cloudy .
|
Almost perfect comute weather here. 60 degrees in AM, no wind. 85 on way home, slight breeze.

After riding every day last week and 13 out of the last 15 workdays, I've missed the first two days this week due to rain. I should have ridden yesterday as I misjudged the radar when I got up and what appeared to be heavy rain was just a light mist and it cleared up by afternoon. My legs were tired though, and I was looking for excuses. THis morning it was muggy, wet and very foggy so I decided to drive again. I don't like the fog. Hopefully I'll get back on track tomorrow and the rest of the week.
|
Dry this morning. 55F/13C. Traffic was light. Leaving at 7:20 seems to be the sweet spot for traffic avoidance. Back to short sleeves. (Yep, I'm hot-blooded.)
|
Helped push a broken down car off to the nearest parking. While doing it, left bike unnatended for longer and further than I liked, but didn't get punished for it this time.
|
I was drenched coming home yesterday and it continued to rain through the night, so that the creek is just a few inches below flood level. I took a detour around the worst of it and forged through some low spots about a foot deep. Thank goodness for sealed bottom brackets but I'll probably need to re-grease my hubs tonight.
|
Not a close call but since it drives up the wall:
"Excuse me, I think your signal is broken." "Wha? No." "Yeah I think so." Sarcasm is just one of my many services. Otherwise a great morning 12C/53F, right where I like it and still in shorts. I also put my 1000th km on my new bike. |
Rode in some heavy cold rain this morning. I really need to get some fenders and some shoe covers.
|
I skipped the ride yesterday due to heavy rains.
I rode this morning in the dark with a light drizzle. One of my tail light brackets broke off during the commute (rear rack bracket), the light tumbled to the pavement but was unharmed. I'll have to repair that tonight. Otherwise, this morning's ride was rather uneventful. I'm still not too keen on riding in heavier rains. It's not the ride or getting wet, it's all of the extra clothing and changing that I dread. |
Pouring down raining! :( The wife offered to ride me to work, I refused) :) Instead of riding my 89 Ironman Master, I switched to my 86 Prelude. Don rain jacket, switched to waterproof backpack and off to a sweet and wet morning commute!! ;)
We only passing this way one time, and from what I hear, we ain't coming back this way no more!!!;) |
Busy work morning....ride in was very nice,, my summer attire was all i needed.
A colleague sent me a "stuck in traffic for 45 minutes will try to be in soon" email....so glad I am ion the bike every day. |
Yesterday was a literal washout. We had heavy thunderstorms all day and half the evening. The local creek is 8' over it's banks according to the news.
Today on the other hand, was really nice despite the fact I got a late start. I have to ride through 2 school zones on the way and it put me in heavy school traffic. Then I remembered why I like to leave by 6:30am. The ground was wet and I got pretty filthy, but it was nice and cool with a light breeze blowing. Hopefully the clouds will be gone this afternoon for the ride home. :D |
I finished my lab early yesterday, so I had some extra time. Checked the weather and it showed a 40km/h wind going in the right direction, so I took the longer route home. I got knocked around a bit on the highway every time a car interrupted the crosswind. But when I turned to go with the wind I was able to fly along at between 47 and 52kph.
I could have worn shorts / short sleeves for my late morning ride today. I wasn't hot while moving, but when I stopped to lock up I started sweating like crazy. There was a strong wind was going in my direction on the ride in, but it didn't feel like giving me much of a push today. |
Still no Hardyweinberg reports. :-(
Almost 50 degrees at my house this morning, and man that moon was bright. It was a beautiful ride into Dallas. I did meet a truck going the other way on my gravel section, but after reading about the rainy rides above I'm not going to complain about it. |
I've been having problems with a temporary replacement rear wheel which has made riding to work exceptionally tiring these last few days because of constant problems. Today was no different since I ended up having (yet again) to leave my bike at the LBS. The weathers certainly not helping at all with high temperatures reaching 32C (90F) with 40-60% humidity making my clothes drenched in sweat even on the smallest of distances.
|
I walked across the street for lunch when something about an e-bike parked on campus behind a bush caught my eye. It was plugged in! Now that's charging the smart way.

4 commutes in a row...a whole week!
Score: 30 minutes early! (though 20 minutes of that was eaten up by showering and getting ready) Workbound: When I got up I saw a big wet looking cloud bank over the bay. (and another wet bank upslope too) I decided to skip breakfast and zoom to the office before the rain arrived, so I arrived early and beat the rain. Hooray for office shower rooms! I passed one of our facility trucks on the way in. Homebound: Like yesterday, rain below us down at the airport, and rain above us upslope. I managed to zoom home before any of it got to my elevations. I did get a bit of road spray, though. |
We had a meeting offsite so I bike-commuted the 45km (rt). The morning was a decently cool, 9C, temperature. Unfortunately, the staff meeting was held in a facility that seemed to be conserving energy because the room didn't seem to rise above 9C all morning. I was in shorts, a short-sleeved shirt and sandals (anticipating a meeting room with a decent temperature), oh and goose bumps and raised hairs on my arms and legs. My co-workers kept their coats on (I didn't bring one) and the woman in front of me went to her car for a scarf. Even this afternoon, when the mist had lifted and the moisture in the air had disappeared, the room was still not over 12C until I decided to prop open the door to the outside and let the cool air out and warm air in, only then did it get decent warm in the room.
The ride home was into the sun in a nice 19C air tempterature. |
Wow, fierce cold wind this morning... I arrived at work craving hot chocolate.
|
Wet foggy morning at 65f (18C). I couldn't keep my glasses clear, so I pulled them down a bit. Riding in wet fog is worse than a heavy rain. The rain will roll off the glasses and only need a cursory wipe every now and then, but wet fog clings to the glasses.
|
Hot and moist with temps in the 90's (31C); thankfully there was light traffic and I was flying on the newly paved roads in my area!
|
I took the car this am due to needing a hair cut after work and wanting to make it home so I can get to cribbage also this evening, also rain was predicted for this am. There was not too much rain. I would have foregone the haircut to ride my bike and still made it to cribbage. Oh well the haircut is sorely needed.
