40F and gray but dry.

Last night ran into a traffic jam at a light of seasonal newbies unwilling/able to take the right of way.

great commute. 32 and frosty on the way in. showed off for my coworkers passing me by doing powerslides on the frosty/crunchy grass next to the sidewalk on the office grounds. good to know the old skills are there.

62 on the way home and took the long way on the gravel access path along the Erie Canal. exactly why i have a CX setup.

tonight i commute an urban route to my other "job" (board of directors at church) on the Leader 725 fixed.

good times, good times....

I think it's one of those things they yell during group rides. He was also calling out pedestrians, clear on the corners and approaching park service vehicles when I was following.

I think it would probably panic our deer, who've become a little lackadaisical in running off in the forest, when they're even bothered enough to do anything but stand and watch me go by. I got a little scare a couple of weeks ago though when more than half a dozen of them panic-ran across the path, some in front and behind me, and a couple balked at my side. Maybe I should have been hollering after all.

Windy, but nice.

fletchh 04-20-12 04:29 AM

Around the same as yesterday, 46f (8C). Easy friday ride in and somewhat quiet, in a relative manner. It will be nice today, but the next 4 days are going to be rainy and two of them will be chilly. It's always difficult to go from the wonderful days back to the less than desireable days.

essiemyra 04-20-12 05:28 AM

The ride in this am was nice, somebody mentioned the flowers perfuming the air and I noticed that this morning . I loved that part of the ride. The temp was 44f with the sun coming up in an almost cloudless. A nice ride in, and I was able to run an errand on my way to work.

Tractortom 04-20-12 06:29 AM

Warm and humid this morning as I left the house, about 70 degrees with a light breeze out of the SE. Had some thunderboomers around yesterday in the afternoon, so I drove the truck to work, and was glad I did as I was getting home in the pouring rain. BUT, it bothers me not to ride an hour a day anymore, so I was back on the bike this morning, making it four days to work this week on the Bacchetta Giro. Chance of Thunderstorms is 40% today, 80% Saturday and 70% Sunday, need to make the best of it while I can. Out of town for three or four days next week for training, so I'll throw my bike in the van, and take it with me to Lake City and look for a place to ride up there, after work each day.

Extremely rainy. But my brand new Outlier ladies pants really did the job! I simply brushed off the rain and I've been dry and comfy all day. Totally worth the price tag.

(No, I'm not affiliated to Outliers in any way or shape. Just saying.)

Trek_geek 04-20-12 07:23 AM

Chilly start, 44° and very foggy. Enough to worry about that 2 mile section going to the train, at 7am when all the high schoolers drive by. Most do not know how to go around a bicycle on a two lane road.
Then one I got on the train I had to ask a guy, who sees me several time a week, to move from the fold up seat where the bicycle MUST be put. He gave me the double stink eye and added "all of the seats" and several more grumbles under his breath.
Have a nice day!

54 F in Orange County CA. Clear as a bell. It would be perfect if they will ever get to resurfacing the other end of one street I take. The city of Irvine ground and resurfaced it up to the Santa Ana city limit. Irvine is yuppier, and has more money, I suppose.

Steely Dan 04-20-12 07:56 AM

cold
20 mph headwind
drizzly rain the entire 15 miles that was nowhere to be seen on radar when i left.

and the blackhawks lost again in OT last night so i was already in a sour mood.

happy friday!

tarwheel 04-20-12 08:02 AM

Great commute this morning, one of my fastest of the year. I left late because I have to work until 11 pm tonight, so my morning commute was in daylight for a change. I hadn't planned to ride today since I am working so late, but my wife is going to meet me downtown after work, so I realized that I didn't need to drive after all. However, I still have to figure how to get my bike home since I don't want to commute home at midnight.

HardyWeinberg 04-20-12 10:48 AM

It was steady drizzle the 1st 1.5 miles to the dentist's but after my cleaning the remaining 5 miles were free of precip (but lots of standing water on the ground so still plenty wet).

Last night was raining rock solid the whole way home, even the stuff I piled around the water heater last night wasn't all dry this morning by the time I had to leave.

Also, my 7 yr old daughter had a hard wipeout last night, she always takes the last corner to our street home from school very hot, and last night in the downpour I was thinking 'wow she's laying it down farther than ever' and then BONK slide scream. Only scrapes, no real gushing blood. I was surprised she didn't shred one knee of her pants (and the knee itself for that matter). The bars on her bike turned perpendicular but that was easy enough to straighten, and the visor snapped off her helmet, I don't know if my wife put the visor back on this morning.

I almost turned around TWICE! :)

I call this thread: "what is the weather like today where you live"

Commutes are in the 90s now, high 90's today, low 100s this weekend.

alexaschwanden 04-20-12 02:47 PM

The weather was 81 degrees, little wind.

RaggaD 04-20-12 04:50 PM

Ride in this morning was beautiful. However, the ride home a storm was blowing in and the headwind was BRUTAL!

Spatchka 04-21-12 04:00 AM

I have been covering another workers vacation, so have been working the noon to 8:30 shift.
Left work yesterday with more traffic due to the Predators game ( later REDWINGS! )
Got hit with a pretty good downpour, then backed off to a drizzle.
Found out that I need to upgrade my lighting system; mines ok for mornings, but heavy traffic at night it just doesn't cut it.
Coming up on month 2 of commuting and still learning.

dude72 04-23-12 03:41 AM

commute today was very nice, especially after the long brake. i still pity the car drivers in the traffic jam :-)

dcb23 04-23-12 04:30 AM

Cold, windy, rainy, Monday, legs still sore from Saturday marathon. STILL better than taking the subway.

making 04-23-12 04:35 AM

I dont know what happened, I had a nice ride in, slight headwind but not at all unpleasant. About 35F but I dressed for it so that was not a problem. But both my HR monitor and my wrist watch said it took about 15 minutes longer than usual. I was even late for work, course no one knows except me and you guys. Weird.

fletchh 04-23-12 04:50 AM

Rainy, windy, chilly, and so on at 41F (5C). The wind chill is near freezing, but it felt better than I thought it would be. Street lights that I like to see on were off, so dark on top of everything else.

Like me, you occasionally just ride slower because of the enjoyment and relaxation? Sometimes, especially in the morning, I just back off for a while because I'm just enjoying the feelings.

making 04-23-12 06:22 AM

Might have been, I do that sometimes. :)

Super, Super ride this morning!!!

I am all pumped up to ride my Centurion Expert with killer lights up front this morning. Got the bike all ready and go to set it outside, btw, it is 5 am too; low and behold it is RAINING!!
I bring the pretty Centurion Expert Ironman back inside. Got ready to take off bike clothes and get the keys to my F150, when my eyes fell on my beater #1 bike sitting there saying "take me, take me"!!

I quickly put a light mount on my 86 Raleigh Grand Prix, which is my #1 beater.. Checked tires, skewers, got my rain jacket, a helmet with a light on it, and hit the road. The first mile in the rain was like sweet wine. All my bikes have a sweet ride, beaters too. I kicked up a little speed and the Raleigh just kept on giving up the goods.. ;) Got to work, a little wet, changed clothes, wiped off the Raleigh, put a little oil on the chain, and just looked at it, and gave it praise... ;)

Tell me life isn't sweet!! ;)

HardyWeinberg 04-23-12 09:10 AM

48F sunny and totally awesome! Also, headed for 70s later today woo freaking hoo!!

tarwheel 04-23-12 11:05 AM

Nice chilly ride this morning with light sprinkles at times. It's supposed to stay cold enough today that I wore my warm rain jacket and was very comfortable. Another biker passed me about the 4-mile point, and I rarely ever see other bike commuters on my route. He was riding a light carbon bike with no fenders, racks or bags so I didn't bother trying to stay with him. However, we crossed paths two other times on my commute -- so we were headed to the same destination on different routes.

mrosenlof 04-23-12 03:44 PM

beautiful! I'm still wearing light knit wool gloves, but might not need them tomorrow.
