Your Helmet Choice

Not sure of the brand. I bought it using a gift certificate from a friend, then scraped off the stickers to turn it into a "hockey" helmet. I tried a real hockey helmet, but I couldn't wear my sunglasses with that one. I'm just not convinced of the efficacy of those racer-style things; I want more around my skull.

Everytime I go to buy one I just don't see one that I like. I grew up before helmets were introduced to cycling except for professionals of course. I do tend to like Bern helmets over others. It looks like it would protect the back of your head better if you fell backwards. Some bicycle helmets look as if they would simply be pushed forward and your head would still impact the ground due to the design. Here is a helmet I like.

I use a typical style bike helmet, a Trek model with quick adjust in the back. It was a good mix of ventilation, modern shell adhesion, and value. I think it was $40 or so.
When I was a kid, bike helmets were only for racers, and we wore hockey helmets. They're vented too, so probably a good alternative to anything without vent holes.

I did buy two Metropolis helmets back when they were available, along with the rear-view mirror, snap-on fitted rain cover and the cold weather kit. Truly a year-round commuting helmet system. Wish there was something like that still on the market today.

I rock a vintage Bell Tourlite helmet in the summer and a vintage OGK knock off of the same, w/taped vents in the winter.
It is the only helmet design that I have found that I like.

HA! I have to sneak out when the wife is around also. I walk around the house with helmet in hand and when I go to the garage, hang up the helmet and grab one of my bike hats.

my rotation
I rotate through a few depending on if the one I wore the day before has dry pads. I'm not that sweaty but...
I've been using an old Giro havoc that will be retired this week - it's a MTB helmet (has a visor)- and I liked it a lot. RIP stinky
It rotated w/ a newer Specialized Max (also w/ a visor) - and when I wear it I feel like I must look like this kid . It's comfy but man, it's like the size of Sputnik
I picked up a new orange Lazer a few months back that I like except that the back goes a bit too low for my taste - if I'm riding my bike w/ drops I notice it, if I'm on my nice-weather single speed with a more upright position I don't care/notice.
And I just picked up a Specialized Echelon for $40ish I think to replace the Havoc this weekend. It's like a basic road helmet.
I wish my head were smaller and I could wear a hat under a road helmet like the cool Rapha kids (j/k... well, a little)

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?
Helmets all look stupid anyway, so I got one that's light, comfy, and well-vented. If it's cold, I wear a cold weather cap underneath. I've got other caps for when it's rainy, too.
I also have a Bell Citi, bought when they were still available, including the rain cover and mirror. I haven't used it in ages, but it's hard for me to want to get rid of it since it's so uniquely versatile. Plus, I've always told myself to "never buy a used helmet", so I don't want to make someone else go against my own advice.
