I commute about 10 miles a day in NYC, although I didn't commute last winter because I hurt my back. That said, I have had 1 flat in the past 2 years, and that was because of a tear in the sidewall, not a puncture. I ride Panaracer Pasela Tourguards in either 28 or 32 x 700 size.

I get about twice a year here, one year I had 15 legit flats. Diameante Pro tires are NOT puncture resistant
