Just for fun
I drove my car from the street to the driveway, street sweeping day, this morning and I realized it was the first day of the month so I decided to have a little fun. I took a photo of my odometer so I can see how many miles I actually put on my car this month.
Let's hope that dial doesn't go past the last 5.

I think I probably have most everyone beat in the mileage department.
Unfortunately I still put about 1K miles a month on my car, and that's with just a 25 mile round-trip work commute by car, plus whatever on the weekends or outside of work.

I do drive my wife's car regularly but that is mostly because of obligations with our kids. Weekends mostly or to a dinner joints at night. I hate my car and would prefer to be rid of it but there are times I have to drive it. I am just hoping I can figure a way around driving it as little as possible.

The maximum I have ever kept a car is 3.5 years, at which point it had done about 45000km - about 28000 miles. Been through three cars so far, but had good reasons for changing 2 of them - the first was because I was moving countries to study, the third was because I was moving countries to work. The second was for no good reason except that I wanted to. More than your resolve not to do 5 miles this month, I find the 209,000 miles figure impressive

Problem is (as far as cycling/commuting is concerned), I've been driving my car 11 years, and I still love it.
Acura Integra GS-R bought in 2001 with 88,000 miles, currently now has 316,000 miles with original engine and transmission, still averages 31.x MPG overall. When I took my current job right out of college, I was living with my parents and driving 100 miles a day plus weekends - 3K miles a month. Now I have my own house and have 25 mile round trip commute.

The math is in and done!
103.9 miles driven this month.
NONE were to my office. The vast majority were to a technology security conference I had to drive to. The conference was 20 miles each way and I had to go two days in a row. So 80 miles of unexpected driving and another 24 miles of around town driving, getting my kids and stuff.
Compare that to 457 miles ridden this month. I'm pretty stoked!

Have a good day all!!

The first talk I sat in there was a chick that was trying to pick a lock. I would be bummed if my bike got jacked but they can have my car if they want that POS. lol

due the homework. Map it out, drive it once (or not) call the place the week before, tell them you only commute by bike and need a place inside to stash it. Talk with a manager.
This has worked for me 100% of the time. I dont take no for an answer. Plus it is fun doing the researching and doing a new ride.

If I had more time I would have totally done that but I didn't find out about the conference until the day before. A friend of mine who was already planning on attending told me about it at noon on Wednesday and it was to start Thursday. It was also in an area I don't know at all. Total opposite direction to anything I know in my area. If I had even a little more time to plan it out and get everything figured out I would have ridden and reduced my mileage by 80 miles on my car and my stress level of sitting in traffic for the same exact amount of time it would have taken me to ride it.
Best part is that if I had ridden I still would not be the biggest geek there. It was a computer security conference. Think hackers. lol I could have been in there in full race kit with an aero helmet and still been in the top 50% of people who weren't complete geeks.

Nope. I gave my gopro to someone who really rides and asked them to give me all the footage so I could post it and continue my masquerade as a bike commuter. The second photo of the odometer was actually taken on August 2nd. In order to keep the image up at work I drive to within a block of work, park, douse myself with saline (to simulate sweat) then ride the 200 feet to work and act exhausted. I sit at home and spin my front wheel for hours to simulate riding so my bike computer looks legit if anyone asks. I buy "maintenance" stuff at the bike shop, promptly throw it away but then ***** about how much a chain costs to replace all while pretending to laugh at the suckers who drive to work that they have to buy gas, meanwhile I just filled up at $130 for the tank.

Wish I was around where you are and we could have rode into your tech meeting.
Have you ever taken a look at the Garmins? I would say one of the best things I purchased was a Garmin Edge 800 with maps. Know I can type in address and off I go. But I do like to do some homework before and map out in ridewithgps.com which is so easy to use. Like the 40 miles I did before work this morning. I mapped it out and here it is: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/1653882 I love the program.
