scroca rides again
It's been a long time since I was laid off (February) and commuted consistently.
Now I am back to work full time, have a key to the building and am able to commute by bicycle again.
Thus the need for the public warning...

I see that you moved also. From Ind. to Mt. I hope you like long cold winters with a ton of snow. You might be in line for a Pugsley soon.

They say that the snow around here doesn't last long due to the Chinook winds. Hopefully, my studded tires will do the trick, if that is the case. A guy at work told me that they run some kind of vehicle with a brush over the fantastic MUP they have here. In that case, I may not even need to change my route come snow fall, though I doubt they will be out early enough clearing it for my purposes. The MUP makes up 75% of my route. The straighter shot on city streets is almost entirely on the Snow Route street I live on. Some way or another it will work.
You are right about the length of the winters though. I've already started to accumulate doubters at work regarding my intention to commute by bicycle through the winter. I'm not sure who will turn out right, but I won't give up easily.

Here's my evidence: bike parked safely inside the building (right by the bucket of salt), out of the weather, and out of reach of the criminal element. This is a huge improvement over my previous place of employment where the bike was out doors and assailable by Mother Nature and human kind.

I dont know you but I am glad you are back commuting! It is a wonderful stress reliever. And thats awesome that the town you live in brushes the MUP. I am lucky if my town knows where the MUP is

Glad to see you back scorca. I was unemployed for over a year and it was sure great to start working again. Now I work a lot of hours so I don't commute as much as I once did.

Thanks exile.
With some reservation I can say that when I got laid off they actually did me a favor. Better work environment, better location, better hours...
Now if my kids were going to college in Montana instead of 1700 miles away, all would be ideal.
So far the morning commute has been fantastic, riding along the Missouri past the falls, with the temperature around 60F and the sun shining. Then the late afternoon commute, even with the temperature around mid 90F isn't so bad since the humidity has actually been single digits and there's always a breeze. For a Midwesterner, single digit humidity in the summer is almost incomprehensible.

Congrats on being employed and commuting by bike again
I actually keep my bike in the basement behind two locked doors and I just put my peddle through a bag of de-icing salt and now I'm thinking about the winter (which is mild in Frankfurt compared to my first few years in Stockholm.) In Stockholm, the bike lanes were cleaned before the streets
but I doubt it's that way in Germany
Nice hat by the way.
