Frame Alternatives
I'm looking for a new frame for my commuter as the one I have is a touch small (it's my old mtn bike from high school). I was going to get the Surly Troll frame (orange one) but I can't find one in my size. So I'm looking for alternatives
I want a frame that will support 26" wheels. Plan on a single chainring and 10 speed cassette. I think the wheels support disc brakes so that would be ok also. Just planning a nice flat bar general rider / commuter.
What are my alternatives to the Surly frame? Would like to stay under $500 or so

Lots more out there.
I have bought several generic CF frames from China, I have got on forums and read reports from others who have done so. The overwhelming consensus is that they are an excellent value and there is nothing wrong with them at all.

I just built up a commuter using a On-One Inbred 26er frame and a Surly 1x1 fork. Both frame and fork will do rim or disc brakes. I'm very happy with the set-up, and with the quality of the frame. It didn't need any additional prep when building it up, and the finish is quite good.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm not turned off by the Chinese Carbon so don't know why I didn't think of it.

Nashbar's house-brand frames get pretty good reviews. They have an aluminum MTB frame on sale for $99 that'll take disc or regular canti brakes. Add a $50 fork, headset, and you're ready to start building up an urban 'beasty'.

I built my winter rain bike from a mid to late 80's Sekai 4130 solid fork mtn bike. New rims and tires and a few other goodies and she's good to go. Lot heavier than my summer bikes though. The ride is real solid and very smooth.
