Drove today because my legs were tired and the forecast was looking like we could get some afternoon thunderstorms. Mainly though, I just needed a break. Sometimes you gotta listen to your body. The weather is supposed to be much cooler and less humid tomorrow and through the weekend, and that will get me back on the saddle.

Very severe thunderstorms today so no cycling. Tomorrow looks the same as of right now.

The only unusual thing that happened to me this morning was I got the "pass fast and slow down" treatment on the Greenway. I didn't really mind since I was casually zone 2 anyway.
Today is 88 days in a row of cycling to work. Now I'd kind of like to reach 100, but I may not make it. I'm starting to get a little tired overall, and I catch myself going too fast just wanting to get home, so it may be time for a break.

Today was a mixed bag. There was a strong headwind on top of being fried from last night's club ride, so I was dragging this morning. I even had to use my small ring (39T) briefly.
On the way home, that wind was agreeable and I zipped to my haircut appointment and home easily. There's a restaurant along the way with a patio, and I heard cheering as I passed. I turned to look, and they stepped it up. They might have been poking fun at my riding, hunkered down in the drops, but I'll take it anyway.

Unseasonably warm and I've been hammering a bit on my modest daily commute (20.4 miles RT) so by today I was tired.
I decided to "take it easy" today but as I rode in I started to feel good and upped the pace and hammered into work again at pretty close to max. I figured I'd do a lazy ride home but then realized I don't have to go in tomorrow so I figured I'd just go for the burn and I really blazed home. Got home and discovered I'd left my phone at work!
Turned around and had to power back before the building was closed. I got the phone and thought the 40 mile day would be a sufficient workout and I would ramble home at a snail's pace. A couple of miles into the ride home the wind whips up right in my face and a thunderstorm is roaring at me out of the Southwest. I hunkered down and pounded the pedals home into a fierce rainy head wind with lightning flashing all around me.
40.8 miles later and after a long day at work, I'm beat.

Nice commute this morning after taking a rest day on Thursday. Had a nice tailwind for a change and made good time with fresh legs. Our weather is supposed to make a big change tomorrow, with much cooler temps and low humidity, which will be a welcome relief. Rode 4 out of 5 days this week, which was pretty good considering that I had to take cold showers at work due to maintenance on our boilers.

This morning I was riding through a park and: 1. Ran into a good friend, my ex of 10 years, quick hug and moving on saw 2. a strange man air guitaring and singing to himself and 3. was almost run down by a bike running a red...all in the span of about 60 seconds.
Otherwise a nice ride in.

Far colder than I thought it would be. Which means I underdressed somewhat miserably and was chilled all the way in. It's definitely time for a lightweight jacket (I only had a vest), and almost time for a headband. But I'd sooner be a little cold than far too hot.

Hey Boudicca, it's not that different up north here, 4C (39F) with a strong wind so TheWeatherNetwork says it feels like 0C (32F) and I don't doubt it. I did have a jacket (not windproof) but once I had passed the 1km mark, I was fine, including my legs in shorts, although I too debated about putting on my under-helmet beanie but I figured I'd just tough it out for the remaining short ride in.
Monday is forecast for a 1C (34F) morning start so I'll probably have better gloves ready and make sure my beanie is in reach.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Since I was promoted into management at my company, I was given a company pickup that I have to drive. Everyday I work at different locations in the county. Until then, I commuted by bike to a vanpoole everyday, putting on about 20 miles a day. I sure do miss bike commuting and still follow this thread because I still go to the store and run errands and go for coffee and such by bike.
So here I sit at work, drinking coffee, feeling lethargic and trying to wake up and get my brain wrapped around the day ahead. On the bike I had it all figured out before my feet left the pedals, and I was full of energy all day. I sure do miss it and miss seeing you guys out there! Have a great day everybody

47F with a slight North (head) wind kept me from sweating too much. Long sleeve tshirt was the only adjustment to my usual short/Tshirt reflective vest combination. Ride ON!

Last night I thought I could make it home in the space between two storms. I was wrong.

Beautiful weather today - high 72F and low wind. Uneventful ride in, should be a nice ride home.

Got my first flat today.
Order of events: Hard braking, back wheel fish tailed a bit. Proceeded to pedal while standing, heard something that sounded like the chain skipping, like a pop. Apparently i broke a spoke (another first). Tire goes flat. I guess the nipple of the spoke, or whatever its called pinch flatted my tube. I heard a piece of metal rattling around in the wheel. Took the tire off and took at look at the rim tape, but it seemed untouched, strange. Got the piece of metal out through a hole. Put the new tube in, taped the broken spoke to its neighbor and proceeded to fill the tube with c02. Failed at that, i screwed the cartridge into the "thing" and then put it in the presta valve, and nothing. Tried backing it out and it would just release air. So i gave up and walked around and finally found a gas station. Luckily i had a presta to shrader adapter with me. Filled up with air, rear rim out of true, but made it to work.
Question i have now is, should i ride it home to my local bike shop (12 mile ride) to get repaired (warranty?) or just get it fixed around my job?

Nice weather for the commute in this morning, 64 Deg.F as I left Whittier, down to 60 by the time I got to the Metro station in Norwalk. Made the 5:50AM train with time to spare; train not too crowded this morning, lots of bikes though.
Still dark and cool as I departed the Metro, lots of traffic is Los Angeles but no problems riding from the station to work. Should be warm and sunny for the ride home this afternoon.

Got home last night ahead of the storms. This morning, the train came in on the New Haven bound track and I had to sprint up the stairs, CX-mount the bike on the overpass, and run back down as the train was pulling in. After climbing a big hill.
And I was less winded than I was the day before. I was worried that I'd been off the bike too long and had lost way too much ground fitness wise. Got a long way to go to be the hotshot I was in 2010, and I no longer have any kids that need picking up at daycare and hauling over hill and dale.

Beautiful weather this morning, I got to work and saw I'd violated the "no bare knees under 60 degrees" recommendation when I saw it was 53 out. It felt great though!

FINALLY had the wind in my favor this morning. Lately I've had mostly head or cross winds going home, and almost no wind coming in. This morning had a nice tail wind coming in, and I think posted my 2nd best time on my current route to work - 15.5 miles in 1:08.
And while it was still humid and I still sweated quite a bit (temp 73) I wasn't nearly as drenched as I was Wednesday morning when I got to work.

Rode 4 out of 5 days this week! Dodged the storm last night too. I am heading into almost a whole week off and going to the beach. Trying to decide if I want to ride while at the beach or just go for a run or two. I have to prepare for a 5k friday evening next week. I am hoping that riding translates to good running.
