First commute in a couple of weeks due to work commitments (and a bit of concern with the time change). Plan to leave about 30 minutes early this afternoon, should get home around sunset. Chilly this morning, but beautiful.

i made it and was not frozen

34F degrees this morning. My coldest commute ever! I broke out my new windproof bib tights. They were a good buy on the clymb.com. You can sign up here. (full disclosure i get $ back if you sign up and buy something) I tried the bags over my feet to keep them warm but I felt my feet get colder as I rode maybe I did not have thick enough socks on. (just my plain ole smartwool ones) I did have my armwarmers, underarmor layer under a wool jersey and Performance softshell. my body and eventually arms and legs to my calves were warm it was just where my feet were covered with bags. It was cool at first but I found myself venting halfway through my ride, but just barely because it was cool. (I know you northern riders may laugh at my layers but I needed to ride today since I got word that I would not be interviewed for this job I had really been wanting)

also i have to figure out something for my eyes they sure watered a lot

How far do you commute Matthew?

I'm about 2 hours northwest of you and we had similar temps today as well.

I've visited winston salem a few times for music and it looks like a pretty cool city to ride around in. Reminds me a lot of Roanoke, where I'm from, but larger with more culture.

I was hoping we'd skip winter in Georgia but it did arrive, right at freezing this morning. It takes me a trip or two every year to re-calibrate how much to wear and I was a little underdressed with just an extra jersey layer and some army surplus wool gloves I found this summer, just barely enough. It can be scary for us Southerners because you know you won't last long staying as cold as you are starting out, but you don't have a great feel for how quickly or how much you'll warm up.

I could have just worn my work clothes, warm-ups or wind-breaker over that, and skipped the shower. Didn't occur to me.

^^I'll agree with you there. I'm still dialing in what to wear in a given temperature range. I was overdressed today with just my jersey and an insulated shell.

Hey 34 is cold whether down south or up north (except in Canada where it's summer weather) - good for you! Try some cheap safety glasses for your eyes, big one fit over glasses.

An unusual Saturday work commute, 41F with ripping headwind. Gusts of up to 30mph called for this afternoon - could be a fun ride home!

45F but to sunny to harsh rain to hail to 45F and sunny in a 10km commute

and a big middle finger aimed at the sky

Evening leg of my ride to work was a nice brisk 23 F. Ride home turned into a walk because somewhere along the way I ended up with 3 broken spokes on the rear wheel. Now I know why the serious car free commuters spend the money they do for their rides. Really can't complain as between myself and the stuff I carry to work I have around 300 pounds on a 14 year old Specialized Rockhopper A1. Of course this gives me an excuse to either upgrade components or buy a bike made in this century. Something along the lines of a Pugsley or 9 Zero 7 has been a temptation for a month now.

As I pulled away from work yesterday evening a non-cycling colleague (they are all non-cycling) called out to me "I want to be you when I grow up!"

Lots of Wind around here lately, which is unusual. The terrain being very flat, I have a 30 meters elevation for my 27.4 kms commute, there's not much to block the Wind on my rural road.

Today I have a 50-60 kmh cross Wind. Everything else is fine.

Phew, a little black ice this morning caught me off guard. I did not slip out of control but recovered nicely and then slowed down and paid more attention the rest of the way. I usually don't put the studded tires on until thanksgiving weekend so I will have to get it done soon or pass on wet mornings. I had a guy pull up by me in the other lane at a stop light and he rolled down his window and said "race ya to the next light" I obliged and when the light turned green he pulled away slowly letting me get ahead and then he opened up that hemi in the nice RAM truck and flew away. All in good fun, I said to myself, "must be nice, show off LOL"
A really nice commute back home tonight. Perfect conditions and a slight tailwind.

First commute with pannier. I should have done this a lot sooner. I still sweat, but not having to change clothes at work is golden.

I had someone tell me they are big and I'm being obnoxious by putting those on my bike though. But I don't think those protrude beyond the width of my bars...angry cager I guess.

I go with over-the-glasses ski goggles..not the prettiest but they are very effective act keeping my eyes from watering.

+10 / 50 F here in DC and windy, windy, windy,

Right around 40 F, heading south, with a north wind at 20 gusting to 34! Made for a very fun ride, fastest ever morning commute in fact. Last Thursday morning it took me 78 minutes to go 15.5 miles. This morning it only took 65 minutes.

This evening is going to suck, though. I plan to leave the office about 4:30 so I still have a bit of light left, but winds are still forecast to be out of the north at 17-18 MPH.

I pulled into work with a flat yesterday. One of my coworkers saw me changing the tube and was astounded that I could do that without taking it to "the shop". :still looking for a facepalm smiley:

****ing headwind again this morning, just like last night. Lately I feel the wind change direction every twelve hours just to piss me off!

It still feel nice to ride a bike.

26F and first sticking snowfall of the year, though nothing on the roads or trail. There were patches of ice and the interesting phenomena of frozen, wet leaves. Mother nature doesn't make things easy!

Just as predicted the ride home was a BEAST! What took only 66 minutes this morning, took 82 minutes this evening. Very tough ride. Luckily the wind that was 20 MPH when I left the office started slacking off the closer I got home.

Toes were frozen solid once again.

Crisp sunny 22 F with a tailwind in the morning, had to use sun glasses for first time in a week.
Dark but a little warmer in the evening with wind in the face.
I did dress for the weather so I was warm enough, however my new bike has the same problem as my old bike-rear brake cable freezes up. I will search the forums for answer to this problem.

Chain-suck is really a real thing. It isn't fun! Debating whether to start upgrading this bike or sell it, because there are a lot of things it's going to need.
