Today was my first commute in 2013 (ok, just a half commute - car in bike out). One way is 14mi. The ride was great. 43F, overcast but no precipitation during the ride and dry roads as soon as I left town. Just a slight headwind on the last 4 mile stretch going north to home. Also my first commute on my new CF bike - which I made sure to clean after I had to powernap for 3hrs from being so out of shape because of winter Only part that sucked was that my dirt road is still covered in an inch of soft pack snow and mud, so I carried my very light bike the 1/4 mile to home to keep it from getting filthy. I also do not yet have a computer on this bike - so it was an interesting experience for me not constantly worrying about my speed.

Great clip! Please post this sometime in A&S when someone moans about bike paths and how they suck for commuting. Granted some of them do but certainly, as demonstrated by this clip, not all.

2C/35F a little bit of moisture in the air

on my 11.5km bike commute I had 17 red lights in the first 10km

meaning that I'm doing 0-30-0 (km/h) 700m interval training

Rocked my commute this morning, with a fast pace for a winter morning with temps in the low 30s and no help from the wind or traffic lights. Just managed to top 600 miles total riding in February, and over 2/3 of that was from commuting. Normally I get nearly half of my total mileage from long weekend recreational rides, but February was my worst month for weekend rides in a very, very long time due to lousy weather and travel. Hopefully the weather will start improving soon, but this weekend is supposed to be unseasonably cold with a slight chance of snow on Saturday night.

I wouldn't be surprised if I've ridden it more times end to end than anyone else alive. 1100 times commuting to my current job, I'd say at least double that overall.
Yes, I guess it's called a National Recreation Area not technically a park. Funny to me because we used to hang out down there, camping, rafting, fishing and drinking beer on the rocks in the middle of the river during high school. The water is so cold in the "Hooch" that it would keep beer icy, and your ankles would literally ache while wading in it. I wonder if it has changed a lot since they made it into a park?

Roswell back then was considered a hick town, and all the local DJs would joke about it on the radio. We used to drive up to Roswell to buy sausage-and-biscuits from a local restaurant, long before you could buy them at Hardees, Bojangles and other fast-food joints.

32 degF, 1/2in of snow, moderate head winds, made a fairly quiet commute this morning. It was peaceful not hearing the sizzling of the studs on the pavement. It definitely was slower gliding along in the fresh coating of snow and took about 1 hour 15min. to arrive at the office averaging 10mph. Not the most pleasant trip but not that bad either.

Snow drizzle and 31F, temps have stayed warm enough that snow's not sticking on the roads or path. The ride home yesterday sucked - steady, strong headwind, I felt like I was slogging along and barely moving. This afternoon's forecast looks to be the same. Oh well, still better than driving

They've built a bird sanctuary, and planted displays of native flora along a walkway, a lot of flowers and small trees. A couple of miles of easy walking path along the river and forest. It's probably been cleared out a lot since you've been there.

Roswell is still a lot like you describe, but on the bright side it is the most, or only, bicycle-friendly community in Georgia.

My first 'long' ride in some time, and it was a beautiful day. A little chilly for starters, but overall an excellent commute (once my hands warmed up - about 4 miles into my 17). For some reason, I thought the morning made the scenery especially beautiful, and I really wanted to share it with you all -- unfortunately, I only have screen grabs from my cheap "hd" video camera, but if you squint and turn your head about 36.7 degrees you might get a hint of what I was seeing:

Hopefully the ride home will be just as good or better.

Yesterday was a nicer day for riding than today, but still not too bad this morning, with the possible exception of the headwind that was gusting to 20-25 mph. This damned headwind seems present almost every morning of late. Just to prove to myself that it doesn't tend to blow this hard this much in other seasons, I checked historical weather records on the NWS website, and confirmed what I thought. It's not this bad other times of year. No wonder my average speeds have been down from what I remember being the norm before my old bike computer bit the dust in the fall.

I do feel a bit more energy of late in the legs and I'm pushing along for a little more speed. For a while every winter, I seem to get to the point where I'm happy putzing along at 10-12 mph, justifying it by my very presence in freezing weather and winds. I'm breaking out of that now and wanting to push again...

...especially when I have a tailwind! ;-) (which I should have going home tonight)

Today off! Needed the rest. Monday was a good ride. Tuesday was a 45 minute fight. Snow wasn't plowed in town so it was slower. The old cager's tracks were a real hazard. They made me hit the ground laughing once. The snow eased the fall. But what a tiring ride. The evening trip was better with plowed roads. Had to detour some unplowed streets. Wed. and Thurs. were better each day. I'm still a bit tired in the legs from Tuesday. Guess I'll let it rest with no club ride this weekend. Just some alternate exercises. Be careful out there and have fun. Blues Frog

Was almost 60f on my way home this afternoon, I took advantage of it and got some errands done. This new job and it's activity level, combined with my increased distance and gym/training is already taking it's toll on me after only five days Gonna put of the gym for a couple of weeks til I get used to it.

The cold is back...just below freezing with a solid headwind. Still enjoyed it.

Cold, cold commute for early March with temps in the mid-20s and a killer wind. I was happy though because our hot water actually worked at the office. They sent out an email on Friday saying they would be working on it over the weekend, and I fully expected a cold shower this morning. Our hot water heater has quit working about 4 times in the past six months.

The wind has been brutal here lately. Rode 52 miles with friends on Sunday, and I swear we had headwinds and crosswinds the entire ride. Our average speed with 5 people was slower than my typical pace riding solo. Temperatures were in the 30s most of the way, barely rising to the low 40s by the end of the ride. When I got home, I hardly had a drop of sweat on me after riding for 3:20 hours.

Nice sunny commute to work with temps in the teens (Celsius) and people out and about enjoying the sun. Started out earlier for the office and had a chance to sit and soak up some rays at a park on the way there.

Snow, rain, more snow, when will it stop?!! Oh well, a little messy this morning, 2 cars off the road so I felt kind of privileged to be on two wheels and just gliding along at my usual average 10mph.

It began at -3°C cold for this area but it warms up quickly when the sun comes out, and the sun was shining for once. It's a good way to start the week.

Clear, sunny, no wind, 21F. It's really nice having almost full daylight now in the mornings... could spring be really coming?!

27 degrees and windy, almost drove in, but decided not to at the last minute.

This is my 2nd commute of the year, and it went great. I only have a 2 miles to work so gloves and a jacket are all I need. I recently joined the gym at work so now have a dedicted shower with full and place to store my work clothes for the week. This makes it a lot easier to look sharp every morning. But made me realize that I need to keep a duplicate of my morning prep material at work.
Toothbrush, hairgel, deoderant, razor, aftershave etc. (It's more that I thought)

I get my dry cleaning done at work so dont even have to take it home anymore. keep shoes, 3-4 shirts and 3-4 shirst at work, I still need to work out a system of bringing underwear and socks, but I'll have that figured out in the next few weeks.

Low 30s with a gusty 20-30 mph headwind, making it feel like low 20s this morning. Didn't feel like doing battle with the headwind, so I settled in for a slower 11 mph-ish shlog. Thanks to the wind, still a decent workout, even at lower speed.

Saw a dead (roadkill) beaver along the GW Parkway by the north end of National Airport. Sad. Could only tell what it was thanks to the tail, still intact. Poor guy.
