schwalbe tires vs gatorskin or hardshell
#26
I have never found a reason to run the Marathon Plus here as we don't have goatheads to contend with and for the most part I live a life where flats are rare regardless of the tyres I run.
The biggest offender is radial wire that comes off automotive tyres and it has been the cause of all but one of the three flats I have experienced over the past 3 years... I would rather spend 5 minutes changing / patching a tube than rolling around on such heavy tyres.
The mileage kings in my stable aren't even Marathons, which I run on 4 bicycles, but rather the Schwalbe Hurricanes I have been rolling on for more than 15,000 km without a single flat.
I ran Schwalbe CX Comp tyres on my hybrid for 12,000 km and also experienced zero flats.
Some of this might stem from not being a gutter bunny and spending most of my time in the lane where there is less debris.

I've put approximately 2500-3000 miles on my 700x25 gator skins and have had 3 flats tops. FWIW
and two were on dirt/gravel roads

Funny, I have been impressed with the relatively low rolling resistance of the Marathon Plus. Had a Conti Security on for a while, and those suckers musta had suction cups mounted on them! I am a believer in the Marathons!!!!!!!

I was putting a lot of miles without flats until last month. I thought my Hardshell's were the answer; then, I started getting flats. Suffered my third this week. I am thinking about Marathon Pluses.

Every time I get I need a new tire, I get something different, and out of all the tires I have tried. The t-serv's are getting a damn good track record with me. My Ribmo is still hasn't made it to 1000 miles, so I will not comment on that yet. But so far so good. Another favorite is the Maxxis Re-Fuse. FWIW, I commute in PDX rain or shine and car free.
