I had to inflate my tires today. The weather is colder and the bike sits outside, but they also may not be the best tubes

Bottom line:
You paid too much if you were really intending to get a so-called BSO for a long term test. I expect your test results will have little to no relevance to anyone looking for an inexpensive bike for commuter use, due to your choice in the "test" bike.

You got too little for your money if you were looking for a basic commute to work bike.
I'm in this camp too. Those things are not all mutually exclusive.

Well I won't be enlarging my yacht anytime soon to take advantage of the "proposed" wider ditch.

If you're gonna use colors that "pop" I would keep it to just one, otherwise that bike is too eye popping...

not be mean ... but i'm looking for FGSS ... which is what I said originally?

all those bikes are great, but I don't think they'd be more reliable that this one?

would've been nice to get the clubpoints though as I can use them for flights

All this talk about the definition of the term is beside the point. He took a bike, call it what you will, and he's testing it. It's worth seeing how the bike fares, no matter how you define BSO or any other term. If you want to test a bottom-of-the-line Walmart bike or equivalent, you can do it yourself. It's not acidfast's job to do it for you.

There is already a 30 or so page thread around here somewhere with the title of something along the lines of are walmart bikes good enough that devolved into a bunch of people talking about their denalis and how they've modified them into useful bikes.

i think it's more interesting to set a goal ... how many km do I need to get out of it for it to be deemed a purchase that makes sense at the price point?

10km
100km
1000km
10000km
100000km

£1/km
£0.1/km
£0.01/km
£0.001/km
£0.0001/km

current: 245km and £1.57/km

Anyone know where you can customize a multi-speed bike that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Sure $5.95; install these on your handlebars https://www.amazon.com/Schylling-BST-.../dp/B001L73M7O and you will make your bike unique when you get amongst all the Serious Cyclists™

I've been known to do stuff like that. People are embarrassed to be seen with me.
