I was faced with a 30-40 km/h wind with higher gusts last night. The wind was coming from the west and most of my commute is north and west. I noticed it when I crossed the bridge at the start, with my kids seat, front pannier and not small physical profile I was like a sail; except I did not benefit from being able to tack. I did get a short reprieve from a semi I passed, which was nice. Overall I was about one minute slower over the bridge! It was not as bad the rest of the north bound stretch, but one I got my son and headed into it I was having a tiring time. I could not talk to my son for the first half due to wind noise in my ears. Anywho got home fine, just tired.

EDIT: I was faced with many close passes and many honks yesterday which is atypical, I do not know what was going on with the drivers.

The ride this morning was great I got PR/top 8 on a 600 m stretch this morning, not expected at all, but pleasant to see.

My son was upset and near tears since he realized at daycare he did not pack his new Spiderman lunch pail/car box. He has not been a good listener lately and this was because of that. Maybe this will help him learn he needs to listen and pay attention when getting ready.

I almost drove this morning breaking my 40+ straight days of riding to work and adding to my 3 drive days in 6 months. But today was the one day my wife needed the car. We have owned our Golf for 3.5 years and put on 100,000 km in total, and only about 7,000 km this year. We pay higher rent where we are living now but I figure it is saved in car costs and happiness points from biking and walking.

EDIT: I found a nice mug on the side of the road near work. I turned around to get it and almost bit it. I was turning sharp left and slow and my only pannier was on my front left pulled me into a sharper turn. For the all the people wondering about getting out with clipless I was unclipped before I could really register what was happening. It was that instinctual and regular and happened fast. I ended up not even putting my foot down. I did get a nice mug though!

The commute in was nice, even with the overcast grey morning. I had to leave early for work today and it was dark, lights on for safety! It was crazy at first with the traffic and construction. I hate to say it but I gave in and rode the sidewalk to the service road by the river. In the morning twilight the fall colors are pretty freaking nice! No one was out and I had a nice quiet ride for a few KM with nothing but the sound of my chain needing a clean and lube and the birds. The smell of fireplace was in the air and gave me a good feeling, love that smell. The sun came up and it warmed up in the afternoon so I took the long way home. Absolutely beautiful! Except for being pushed from the side by a vehicle it was perfect. Freaking guy actually hit my full pannier and looked annoyed when I mention that the law is 3 feet or the lane! Weird. People care more about not scratching a car on their left then killing the guy on their right!

Ride to work at 5am was pleasant and cool. Finally below 70 here in Austin at that time. Dark as heck but lights work well. Only had two cars pass from behind and both kept respectful distance.
Ride home it seemed like every auto. driver had a bug up their butt. Honked at twice while IN bike lane. Two different SUV drivers almost backed into me leaving parking lots....good thing I assume I'm invisible to 4 wheelers. Several close passers that had to be on purpose.
So good to get home and have that cold Lone Star.

I took the bus & train to work. I had left my main bike @work yesterday to pick up one of my weekend bikes. The ride home was cold, wet, and gray here in NY. I loved it! It reminds me of being a kid. I really like riding in the rain. I had to be a little bit more careful due to the wet streets and crazy traffic, but all was great.

Just getting back into it after a few months away... MAN my legs are unhappy with me... had to break up my ride home with the train to cut out ~150m of elevation that I figure would've killed me today :P

Back on the bike this morning after a couple days absence due to a cold. I stayed home from work on Tuesday and got a ride from the wife on Wednesday as I still felt low on energy. Feeling better this morning but still kinda gunked up in the nose.

A very foggy morning out there - still is - and definitely not getting light out as early.

A mild (13C/55F) and slightly misty ride in but I felt great and probably made good time (I really should get a replacement cyclocomputer).

Tomorrow's forecast is for 30-40mm/1.25-1.5" rain which could make the commute pretty wet. However, it looks like the majority will be during the late afternoon/early evening and the temps will be 16-20C/61-68F so a wet ride home in mild temps won't be too bad.

Do you miss the computer that much? I'm thinking about loosing my front Wheel magnet and be done with speed, time and distance measurement. I would keep the thing just to know what time it is and make sure I'm not late for work. But I might wait for 2015, as I still wish to ride 10000 kms in a year I'll wait until the end of 2014 as I'm still on track for that goal so far this year.

First commute in a week ... and it was glorious. Crazy dark though, this time of year. Was also overcast with rain in the forecast, and wet roads from rain overnight. Humid and 61 degrees ... which really was quite nice.

My ride home was awesome I had to pick up an extension cord from a place I had left it after a DJing gig. Got the cord and rode home. I think they were a little perplexed to see me ride up to the front door and then shove the cord in my panniers. My sunglasses are broken and since this extra took longer it was pleasant to not have squint due to the sun being lower. The weather turned out to be wonderful so comfortable and a great ride home. Dinner was Tacos I love tacos after a good day of riding. :)

this morning was foggy but not as thick as yesterday. wow i think we are in the weird point of dark rides until the time change.

Unfortuanately today is my last day of riding this week. I hope I can get a few days in next week. I also hope this cold will go away.

Pleasant 62F and cloudy, raining now and probably the rest of the day. A commuting friend of mine was hit by a car yesterday - actually he hit the car - broke his collar bone. I had every light I own running this morning - damn cars.

Anyone else do the National Bike Challenge? I've never paid attention in years past but someone conned me into doing (since it pulls mileage directly from apps it was easy). I ended up #1 ,922 out of 34,524 nationally, #45 of 777 in Indiana, #22 of 484 in Indianapolis - and I'm not at all competitive!

... and #1 in your household!!!

Actually, if my son had done it that would be a no - he rode from Indy to Oregon then down through California right during the challenge period. I'm not first anywhere!

I ended up as number 1868 nationally and 10th for Charlotte, NC. I can't find a statewide breakdown.

Good commutes this week, so far. Took the family on another part of the old Kettle Valley Railway on the weekend/monday--good times!

Yesterday I started putting some weight on my left hand again, which means i am nnow resting it on the hood, not just a few fingers on the top bar.
Still have a hand splint on so still no left hand braking/shifting. (Thank God it's my left hand.)

Nice ride this morning, although slow as poo, a good 5-7 minutes slower than usual with a 9 MPH headwind. Almost 80 minutes exactly, compared to 73-75 minutes usually.

It was a nice ride home last night. I was making great time then I started catching lights. Arghh.

This morning was cool about nine degree Celsius. It was a nice ride though I had to be extra aware of people turning across the bike lane.

It was a beautiful view over to the island.

Great commute today here. Some cloud in the morning and a bit cool, but perfect in that it's not to hot or cold for a ride. Still busy on the way in with the traffic because of construction but it's a short part of the ride so I'll deal with it cause the ride along the river on the old service road is really nice. I don't know how long the fall colors are going to hold out though. The ride home was beautiful, clear sunny, and warm, so again I took the long way home, man I'll take this till December if possible.
