Yeah same here, no rain since last Tuesday. May get a little next week, though.
I recall one day last winter when it was so cold one morning, I got to work and just didn't even want to deal with getting wet in the shower. So I just changed and went about my day. |
About 40ºF, this morning. Cold enough to break out the cold-weather gear, gloves. No frost, yet, and no rain recently. Was out early enough that traffic was light. Had no close-calls with cars ... perhaps the added reflective bits/gear was helping.

Mid 50s this morning with a 20mph headwind. I took off my windbreaker halfway in because I was starting to bake.
I'm amazed that I'm still in a t-shirt and shorts. Usually by this time of year I'm in pants and long-sleeve base layer. I'm sure I'll get plenty of cold weather in the coming months. They're calling for another harsh winter. |
I didn't bike in to work this morning as my wife and I had an appointment very soon after I finished work yesterday afternoon so she picked me up and I left my bike here. I got a ride in this morning but will ride home.
This morning was a brisk -3C/27F with significant fog. This would have been difficult to ride in as the fog would have required me to take my glasses off so I can see the wet road and then, with my glasses off, my eyes would get cold. I might have to find a different route in where I'm not riding for 3km on a wet, unlit, pothole-ridden street where the wet road sucks up the light from my headlight forcing me to really slow down to slightly more than jogging pace just so that I can see potholes in time to avoid them. I'm going to map out an alternate, better lit, route this weekend that I can use for the rest of the fall/early winter season until there is regular snow on the road that I need to switch to winter mode and my winter bike. |
I ran over a live bird today! It was a crow eating at the side of the road, and it panicked just as I was about to pass it, running right in front of me. I went over its wing but I think it was OK after, and thankfully I didn't wipe out.

Cool morning (46F). I was definitely not wanting come into work. A busy weekend makes for a tired commuter. I could have slept in until 10. But I rode and I'm here. The week is supposed to be warmer, 50s in the morning and up to 80 in the afternoon. |
Cool (-1C/30F) but clear and only a slight breeze. Took a different route today to avoid the unlit-for-3km, riddled-with-potholes road. It was a better ride.
Today is election day for mayors, councillors and school board trustees (and, also, a referendum in our city) for all towns/cities across Ontario (yes, it is coordinated). I'm happy with my decision, let's just see if they stick to their "promises". |
First cold morning in a while. 38F with some frost in the lower areas. I wish I had put on my face mask, as my cheeks and ears were quite cold by the time I made it to work.
I almost ran over a co-worker. She stepped off the curb without looking just as I was going past. I rang my bell and she jumped back. I'm sure she'll look both ways next time. ;) I am beat from my hockey game yesterday. We didn't have enough for any subs, so I was out there for the full 45 minutes. It was all I could do to climb into bed last night. |
42 degrees and a good ride. Ended up sweating less and in turn glasses did not fog up as much. Still did some though. Have a date night with my :love:I am looking forward to that!

Excellent ride this morning, despite oversleeping by an hour. Maybe the extra hour of sleep did it. ;) Or maybe it was the fact that it was 20 degrees warmer this morning than it was Friday morning. Even though I had more of a headwind this morning, I still made it to work a full 5 minutes faster than on Friday.
Saturday I had my longest ride ever, over 45 miles, with awesome weather. If I had ridden yesterday I could have made it over 150 miles for the week, but I decided to just rest. Still, I have far surpassed my October riding total from last year, and am also about to surpass my September total, which historically has always been the month with the most miles for me. Going from 2 days to 3 days a week commuting certainly helps in that regard. :) |
54 degrees and clear ... nailed my clothing choices this morning and found that perfect match of cool but not cold and hot but not sweating my a$$ off by the time I got to work. Ride home should be amazing tonight.
And it's amazing how good your legs feel after a week away from the bike. Absolutely blistered my pace this morning. |
Great to be back in the saddle even with just a few days off. Warm 54F, supposed to get near 80 today
|
Nice sun, cross Wind, cold.

It was a dry commute home Thursday after the heavy rain in the morning. I took Friday off since my son's daycare was closed for the day.
We had a nice weekend. But I almost ran over a cyclist in the downtown area Friday afternoon. I was driving had a green and was in the right most of 6 lanes. I was going and suddenly from the left across all six lanes comes a guy. I slammed on the brakes and laid on the horn since he was not very aware; he did run a light which had been green for at least 10 seconds. He flipped me off and I safely passed him. He then yelled at me as he filtered by about not being a rectum or something. My wife was mad at me, she said he obviously wasn't all there, but he was pretty with it in my opinion just with a few screws loose, and to give him a break. Which I replied I did by being aware and not hitting him. Anyway I am unsure how she turned me into the bad guy. This morning the ride was nice. It was cool but not too bad. I felt nice and rested which was what I needed. I held my tongue at a cyclist who ran a stop sign as I was turning left and went across my path. I took the turn safely but close enough to make the guys face go into the confused puppy dog and oh crap look as he realized I was turning into him. I think that this is bike to work week but I did not see any of the amenities they usually have. |

I went to a spin class on sunday, quads a bit sore today. Trendy place: crowded sweatbox with LOUD music and a hyper but excellent 'instructor'. Very well-run operation: must be raking in the bucks, so good for them. www.ridecycleclub.com It's not what cycling is to me, but it was interesting in a good way.
It IS bike to work week! I didn't see any stations this AM, but i saw more cyclists than usual. Showers at work were busier than usual. I'm counting on a good drenching to send 'em all back to to their cars...jk Here's the forecast: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=414340 |
Calm and dark. I'm really surprised I'm able to continue my fair-weather commuting this far into October. I'm gonna really miss it when the snow falls.
This afternoon looks to be rainy with 25 MPH winds. Bummer. |
Meant to check the batteries in my light last night but forgot. Of course, it died about 10 minutes into the ride. And it was colder than I expected. Other than that, it was great.
|
Super nice today! We're having a pseudo-Indian summer day, with a high of 75°F.

Mine is only half done, but the morning was 5-7 degrees colder than the past two months commuting. I had to wear a fleece cover for the first time since March.
For me, San Diego offers so many advantages, and the weather is one. |

I saw the Hub BTWW tents set up on 10th & Laurel; I've never bothered to stop for any of the tents in the summer or fall BTWW's. Anything worth stopping for?
https://bikehub.ca/bike-to-work-week...ation-stations There are actually none along either of my normal routes. I could deviate and stop at 10th and Ontario on the Thursday afternoon, but free snacks are not a huge draw. But I could stand to get a free RD adjustment. And make them work on it at 6 pm+ in the pouring rain while my son and I eat all their snacks... Beer samples or fresh pastry would guarantee a stop. There is usually one at 10th and Victoria, but not this time. I wonder why? |
First bike commute in a couple of weeks. My running race is over so I won't be running very often, which will leave more days for the bicycle. Dark, wet, but not raining, 42 degrees. I wore my Showers Pass jacket over a light T shirt, and it's OK but my arms were just as sweaty as they would have been in my G&J jacket. 4 cars passed me in the 9 miles. I think there is more car traffic than there was several years ago.

Another awesome commute this afternoon. 17 MPH tail wind made my commute home a full 14 minutes faster than the same commute home this past Thursday.
And I must say, Mondays are SOOO much better when I bike commute to work! |
joeyduck They used to have BTWW tents at Westminster and 6 as well, but they haven't done it for years.
Saw a few more strangers on bikes than normal. I'm kinda thinking screw it for tomorrow as the remnants of Ana blow in. I hate wind. |
