great ride home on Friday only 3 trips (two to work and one home) I hope that i can get some more this week.

went mountain biking 13.5 miles Sunday! Sure felt those miles this morning on my commute in. I felt awesome riding yesterday. It is really amazing what 37-40 lbs of weight loss and over 2200 miles for the year do for your mountain biking. :)

45 degrees this morning and wore an underarmor short sleeve shirt under my jersey and really wish I had not. Too warm.
It will be pretty cool this week in the mornings so I am trying to calibrate my riding clothes for these temps.

Colder this morning at 2°celcius. Nice sun, No Wind, great ride.

It's going to be a wet ride! Getting out the cycling rain suit.

I gave up. With the combination of a wonderfully understanding but chronically ill working wife and a 2 year old daughter with goofy sleeping habits, I simply cannot get 6 hours of sleep and up in time to ride in. And by quitting time my awesome babysitter/MIL is ready to be relieved asap so I have to get home the fastest way possible (car). And weekends? Forgot about it.

So I brought my bike to work and just rode all during my 1/2 hour lunch break. It was really nice. No rush. Not freezing or sweltering. I will try to do this regularly. It won't make up for the 17 mile commute, but motion is lotion.

Nice uneventful ride home, sunny and 69 degrees. Perfect!

First time this season I wore a shell. Still had on short sleeves under it.

Not as cold this morning as yesterday morning: 50F vs 44F.

A church on my route was undergoing construction. I used to cut through its parking lot because it got me off of a main road a bit sooner. I stopped during the construction as workers were out and about and potentially so were nails or whatever.

Now the construction is done, but it isn't a church anymore, or it is but it is also a daycare. And parents are dropping off their kids right as I go by. It is a bit of a traffic mess and new danger zone for me. I may have to consider a slightly longer way around.

Although it was cool (1C/34F), at least it was dry (although there was a bit of dampness on the road that made the front light less effective). However, there was a strong 31kmh/20mph wind from the NNE which was an interference for most of the ride.

Nearly ran over a cat that was just sauntering across the road but the bunny a little further was a lot quicker.

Commute yesterday afternoon from work to home. Fall colors along the bike path. Too bad it doesn't last long.

Strong headwind, rainy.

The small road work of last week is turning into a big roadwork this week: they were preparing the complete repavement of a 2 kms stretch of road that was full of pothole with no shoulder in a 70 kmh speed zone. It was the only danger zone of my whole commute so in a week or 2 the ride will be just fun. Until then I have to leave early because this morning it took a good 12 minutes to get thru the roadwork.

yeah, and I only get to see it for maybe half the ride since it stays dark longer! 43F and wet from last night's rain but no rain during ride in. The other thing I love about Fall is the smells, someone had a fire going

The commutes last night and today were nice. The rain let up for this morning. I need to get a new waterproof cover for my sons bike seat. This one is an old pack cover that left a puddle in his seat this morning after the heavy rains. I think I have some waterproof ripstop in the fabric scrap bag. It does not really matter since he wear full rain gear also, but it just makes it better when it is nice and his seat is dry.

I was making great time today, I was catching lights (which means running stop signs in this city). Less stops like that give me so much more energy when starting with my son on the back. But ultimately my moving time and average speed were the same; it is the moral boost from not stopping. I think I upset some drivers with my filtering, but I do not mind.

Back in the saddle after a rest day on Monday. Put in a lot of miles over the weekend and latter part of last week, so my legs needed a break. I hated to miss a commute because the weather was ideal but sometimes you have to listen to your body. The weather is still nice today and it's supposed to continue through the week so my commuting won't suffer much.

My morning commute is very dark lately but that will change soon when Daylight Savings starts in early November. Then it will be lighter in the mornings and darker in the afternoons. I personally would prefer the dark during my morning commute rather than afternoon because traffic is much heavier on my way home.

I agree with this. Everyone leaves work at the same time and it is always crazy and offers credence to my wife's claim of considering self preservation. Who still finds benefit from this time change?

I have been building up and reinforcing the fact I cycle far less busy roads and more visible than where we used to live. Most of my commute is now on side roads which are shared bike lanes or dedicated bike lanes. I have made it until late November previously but that was with a almost 25 km commute and with lights and all it would take about an hour each way on busy roads. Now my commute takes an hour total each way with stops and daycare pick up on side streets.

So many people seem annoyed with the time change in November, but that's actually STANDARD time, from November to March. So if we quit DST it would be standard time all the time, like it is from November to March, and would get dark an hour earlier than it does now in the summer. In my area it would also get light about 4:30 AM in the summer, and who the heck wants that?? Not me.

So I commuted again today, first time doing it 2 days in a row. Nothing to report, other than it was one of my slower commutes I've had so far. 11.x MPH average. Taking the car tomorrow, then riding again on Thursday.

Fought the strong, persistent southeasterly wind on my commute home, which is... you guessed it... southeasterly. Days like this that I think I need to rig up a pitot-static system on my bike and affix an airspeed indicator to my handlebars. Or I could just get a power meter...

My commute for the past three days has been endless rain.. figures it stops on the days i'm off (good thing i guess) :) It's given me a great test of my Brooks rain cape, payed a fair bit for it but it's been well worth it these past three days.. outside of my feet it's kept me nice and dry, although i do look like the angel of death swooping along the bike paths, I think i've frighted some of the older bikers into thinking there time was up.. lol The roadwork here in Toronto is getting crazy but i'll be grateful for the lack of potholes next year, some of these roads would probably be condemed in many third world countries...Hope to check out some hub gear bikes over the next week, with the nasty weather moving in i want to keep commuting but not have to worry about maintaing my gears, particularly agains salt..shudder..

Yeah I imagine it was not fun. I remember pedalling along the river with that wind.

I had a nice commute with the wind mostly to my rear quarter. I got a few side gusts that catch my pannier in the front and push.

I saw the most people ever going my way on one path though. It was weird; I was in a train of maybe 10 cyclists.

I wonder if people with obscenely bright lights get the clue when I stare down and outside as they approach.

One of the families at my son's daycare said I go near their house and they were impressed with the time I make. It always feels good when a you know you are as fast as a car.

Cool, -1C/30F, morning but clear and little wind. A couple of puddles had a thin layer of ice on it but I was able to avoid them.

It actually was a beautiful ride in, the first morning ride of the last couple of weeks in which I was able to watch the sky in the east ahead of me shift from dark to a pink and orange glow to sun up.

Despite being the coldest morning this fall, I saw the most number of bike commuters on the road, 5 or 6 of them.

Great ride this morning with cooler temps and lower humidity than lately. I prefer commuting in cooler weather and look forward to fall and winter. My new headlight arrived in the mail yesterday, and it was nice having the extra lumens.

Beautiful 37F Fall morning. Probably my last ride for a week or so, having hand surgery this afternoon. Doc says I'll be off the bike for several weeks - I heard him say a couple days!

A very cold 27F fall (or too close to winter) morning. And fog for the first 4 miles. I didn't think fog would be that thick in that cold of temperatures, but man was it thick.

Rode Monday, drove Tuesday, and rode today. 41 degrees this morning. I got out my "winter helmet" and that sure made a difference. I also wore my wool jersey. I :love:that jersey. A wonderfully comfortable ride in. I hope to ride the rest of the week. I was venting my jacket and then when I got into town I actually took the jacket off and was comfortable. Looks like we might barely get over 60 today for the ride home.

I hope to ride the rest of the week. I was talking with my wife last night and she was like I wonder if you can make it to 3000 miles for the year. I also figured out that I rode to work more than I drove from May until now. Biking has become the norm and it feels so weird to drive. I have really only driven places on the weekend.

Good for you. But, man you dress way warmer than I do. Same temp here, maybe closer to 45. I had a long sleeve shirt is all, Not even a thick one, it's actually a running shirt. I wear it biking because it is neon green.

Nice ride in today, but definitely a bit cooler than yesterday.
