Some provinces are officially bilingual (Ontario for example), others are not and I think that Quebec's official language is French only. However, in Ontario anyway, this applies to government web sites, not private. CBC however, receives federal funding (the feds are officially bilingual) and therefore, probably more for the sake of its cross-Canada audience, its web pages are translated.

It's a french newspaper in a 100% french speaking city in a french province with a law that protects the french language (bill 101) so don't be surprised.

Hmmm, I work for the Ontario government and all our documents (public facing that is) must be in both official languages. However, the private sector is not required to do the same. Maybe the province isn't officially bilingual but the government is?

I don't really know, you may be right. I get this from the last time I planned a trip in New-Brunswick, in 2009, on the provincial governement web site they were saying so and I assumed they were telling the truth.

I was good and warm the whole way, actually had to unzip the jacket for the first half as I got on the climb up Myrtle Street and Beacon Ave. I'm glad the Rizal Bridge was sanded and iced. I looked to my right and saw a fresh layer of white frost on the pedestrian side of the bridge. I have learned from painful experience that that stuff is slicker than Slick Willard and you have a much greater than 47% chance of wrecking if you attempt to ride on it.

As of right now, I have a total of just under 100 commuting miles in this month, which is half of what I rode all of last month.

That NB is the only bilingual province is made pretty clear so I don't really know what the difference is between Ontario and NB. Interesting, thanks!

Ugh!

A bungy on my rear rack somehow came loose and wrapped around the rear sprocket....thank goodness this happened after I was down Capitol Hill because the whole back end just stopped...stopped rotating. I pulled over and spent around 15 minutes in the dark dislodging the remaining strap but I have one of the metal clips wedged bewteen the rear sprockest and the spokes. I can go froward but when I coast the bike is trying to be a fixie.

The Southern version of the Polar Vortex is coming in today. Still mild this morning at 48F. But instead of warming up to 70F like it has all week, it will only get to 56 this afternoon. A cool breeze made the ride in feel a bit cooler.

Vortex has been here for a few days. This morning 22F wind chill 12F. It takes me longer to get ready before I leave and to get undressed and ready for work after I get to work than the whole ride TO WORK!

Nice commute last night. I rode with two other fellows who kept my pace up.

I went skating with my son. It was my first time skating in almost twenty years. I am still as bad as I was then, but I did okay. My four year old enjoyed it and is doing better on his own.

This mornings ride was okay once I thawed my locks again. I took the lock cylinder to work to dry it out and oil it up. My lock at work was also frozen. A great reason to park inside.

Today was my first day skipping a commute in 17 weeks, since mid-July. I'm still not feeling 100%, and woke up to some light sleet this morning, so I decided it would be best to drive in. Oh well, at least I did get in 2 commuting days this week, which is what I used to do every week anyway.

My first sub freezing commute this season. I felt comfortable most of the way to work. My feet got cold about 45 minutes into my 90 minute commute. I wore my work boots and two pairs of socks. I was surprised how much I still sweat in the cold. I tried to keep the effort level low to avoid excess sweating. I find I'm taking the shortest route to work lately since it got cold. Hopefully I'll soon get used to this weather. I know it's going to get a lot colder before it gets warmer. 2,793 miles so far this year. Don't think I'll make it to 3,000. It will be close.
