MapMyRide == LoseMyData?
Is anyone else having trouble with MapMyRide's gear tracking? Since they switched over to the new "Gear Tracker" sponsored by Zappos their site thinks all my bike components are shoes and only lets me track one piece of equipment per ride, which is annoying enough, but they also seem to have lost the data I had previously tracked when this was a non-sponsored and non-broken feature.
I'm just wondering if I'm alone in experiencing this problem.

I use MapMyRide almost daily but I haven't used the Gear Tracker feature yet. With respect to the rest of MapMyRide, my records are intact. Look on the Support pages and see if others have experienced the same.

Yeah, the main mileage log is working fine for me too. It's just the gear tracking that's busted. I sent a message to their "support" nearly a month ago and they told me that the data would be corrected in a few days.

I've heard that before. My settings are for metric distances but when I input a challenge or a goal, such as 5,000km for the year, despite the fact that it says km, it only receives the amount in miles and calculates my progress in miles. I've sent this in a couple of times and others have the same problem. No resolution.

I only use map my ride when I'm wanting to determine the distance of my rides and never could get the announcement feature to work right nor could they fix it for me. It's a free site, so my expectations weren't to high with it to begin with and they've been met.

I mapmyride but not the gear tracker. I don't need anyone telling me when I need shoes or sneakers. A ridiculous thing to add in my opinion.

I had a different view of what the Gear Tracker was to achieve (and maybe it does, I don't know). On another running site that I used to use, when I logged runs, I also indicated what shoes I was using and it kept track of distances for the 2 pair of shoes I was switching between. I presumed that the Gear Tracker on MMR would do the same, separate rides by bike so you could monitor them separately.

Zappos.com must be thrilled to be sponsoring such a quality feature.

Yeah, I have always used it to track the mileage on things like chains, tires, brake pads and pedals so I'd have some idea when they were likely to need replacement/maintenance. That was the main thing I used the site for. Now, even if they hadn't lost my data, the stupid thing only lets me track one piece of gear per ride -- mostly because it thinks everything is a pair of shoes.

Strava has nailed this feature by the way. Go to My Gear, click on the bike, and start adding components. If you really want to get fancy you can use an irrelevant component (like rear shock on a road bike) to log chain lube.

Actually, that might be a good next step since the MMR people haven't fixed the problem. Maybe they need some financial incentive.
We all know users don't count, except as data to sell to advertisers. Advertisers are what really count on teh interwebz. If you complain to an advertiser, saying it reflects poorly on their brand, they might actually get MMR off their asses.

I'm not entirely sure. I've never actually tried that and I'm not sure how to. My setup is that I use Cyclemeter during rides and that automatically imports to Strava so I can use Strava features that I like (namely segments). I don't really use Strava a whole lot other than to look at my KOMs (hint: create your own segment on a popular route... you'll have the KOM for at least a minute until Strava figures out which of the 500 riders who've done your segment was fastest) and to check component mileage. What I do know is that I can run Cyclemeter without GPS and it will still export to Strava info from my cadence/speed/mileage and HRM sensor. And I input info for a non-recorded ride on either Cyclemeter or Strava and it will show up on Strava.
But that kinda defeats the purpose of having Strava I think. It's probably easier to keep a paper log of when maintenance/replacements were done than to use Strava for just that.

Or maybe I'll just buy a Garmin and join the Strava cult.
