That's why i don't use bar mitts, with my mitten it takes me 1s and they are warm enough for -40F and beyond (whatever the windchill) so no need to add unecessary hassle of having to put up and remove my bar mitts plus find some room in my bag every time i need to park my bike somewhere. Not for me.

May I ask what kind of mittens you have? I'm asking because if I could go -40F without bar mitts I'd do it too.

All the spiders are frozen solid when it's cold enough for me to use bar mitts.

By themselves, the only advantage they have vs other on the market is that they are roomy.
I've added aluminum foil in which increased warmth enormously and totally cut wind which makes that now wind has no impact on the warmth of the mitten.
I've also sewed on the thumb part another layer from an old glove that i had.
I've shorten the cuff, i found it too long for me (making the cuff shorter has allowed me to put mitts on and off without any hassle in a split of a second)

I'll take your word for it (diaper Blue) Had no children when I wore diapers they were white and had to be washed rather than put in the Garbage>Landfill.

These were recommended by a local bike shop owner that does a lot of winter riding and back country racing up here in Alaska. I haven't had the need yet on my commute, but the lowest temp I have seen is 18*F. I use either a set of old Air Force arctic mittens (the green nylon ones with the wool liner, leather palms and fake fur backs) or for this year a set of padded mechanics gloves with high vis. green backs with reflective stripes I picked up from Lowes. My ride is almost 10 miles one way.

I broke down and installed Bar Mitts on my flat bar eBike that I use for commuting here in the quiet corner of Connecticut. Even with my Winter gloves on, I couldn't hack it when the temps went below 30º. Monday of last week, it was 14º when I left the house.
Only my face was cold on that ride. When I rolled in to the parking lot at work and took off my gloves, I thought it would be prudent to feel my cheeks to see if they were frost-nipped. I freaked out when I touched my face and it felt like cloth, 'til I remembered I'd cut myself shaving and put on a fabric bandaid. Bar Mitts ftw though, to be sure.

I live in central Minnesota and try to commute semi-regular through the winter. I have bar mitts for my road bike (with drops) and another set for my fat bike (flat). I throw them on for most rides below 35 degrees as my hands have poor circulation. 30-35 degrees I will use bar mitts with thin gloves, below 30 I use lobster gloves with the bar mitts and all is well with the world. ~5 deg and under I can make it 30-40 minutes with the bar mitts and lobsters and my fingers will start to get cold.

They do have drawbacks to consider! If you can deal with lobster gloves or mittens alone, I would recommend going without bar mitts. Bar mitts are not fun in a cross wind. Bar mitts make it harder to get your hands on/off the handle bars (think turn signaling).
