Time to show off the new commuter

I just finished this up today. I used to have an Xtracycle attached to the back but it just wasn't working out for me. Now it is much more useable. This is an early 90s Trek 930 frame/fork.

Bikes: (2) ti TiCycles, 2007 w/ triple and 2011 fixed, 1979 Peter Mooney, ~1983 Trek 420 now fixed and ~1973 Raleigh Carlton Competition gravel grinder

If I were to ride this more than rarely in the rain, I would have to make one change. Put a real (English style) flap on the front fender. I have used Mylar and doubled up graphics film for all of my front fenders for decades. Here in Portland, cut down WBs are popular. Either way, real flaps make a big difference in comfort and a clean bike. Big enough that you will say after your first ride with real flaps "Why doesn't Planet Bike do that to start with?" (Or SKS or any of the other non-English fender makers. Blummel of England has been making fenders with real flaps for over 45 years, maybe far longer.)

Sweet looking bike! Are you going to ride it in snow? The tires look a little thin for heavy snow riding.

I liked the Xtracycle and it was certainly cool and fun to put it on a bike. However, I found that for me my Bob trailer works just as well and the trailer is removable. Also, I think that Xtracycles have much more utility for people living an urban lifestyle and I live out in the suburbs and since my commute to work is 10 miles each way, I prefer something a little lighter and more nimble. I think for urban cyclists it is much more important to have the cargo capacity because you wouldn't use a car very often or might not even own a car. But I have 4 kids out in the suburbs and even an Xtracycle can't carry enough groceries to feed my family. We go through over a gallon of milk per day.

So now I'm trying to unload the Xtracycle. And as with all used stuff, I'm going to have to take a loss on it. Oh well, it was a fun build.

Before riding in the snow I would definitely have to put some more appropriate tires on it.

I just used edecals.com. They are more like higher quality stickers than true decals.

I love good fenders, especially the English and French fenders like you mention. These fenders on this bike are made by Civia/QBP. Not as fancy as the nicer hammered fenders but not as expensive either. These are a pretty good value for the money and the black goes well with the bike.
