I understand the joking around of your answer, but when I am out on a lonely country road by myself I try not to antagonize anyone. My safety is top priority to me.

Another nice uneventful commute to work today. I think the ride home this evening will include some extra miles.
|
A shorter ride last night as I met the wife and kids about half way to then go to a friends house for dinner.
Broken record here for the morning commute: hot and humid. I did pass a lady riding up a hill and I encouraged her with a, "Push! Push! Push!" She laughed and said, "I need your legs!" |
Some good rides this week. Tuesday was hot as Hades going home. Yesterday morning I was literally sweating buckets from the humidity, but then yesterday afternoon was in the 80's instead of the 90's and I think I sweat less than I did in the morning. It was a nice break, with a 15 MPH tail wind also. :D
I was on vacation in Florida last week, and on the last ride last Friday morning before leaving I got harassed by 3 different people, one of them a sheriff deputy, about how I needed to get on the bike path or ride on the white line. This week, commuting a total of 62 miles on mostly 2-lane rural roads, no problems from anyone, not even local PD. Had one truck pass me yesterday on a hill with oncoming traffic (changed lanes to pass, but still that was stupid), but that was the only incident. |
Affixed my pontoons today for the ride in... wondering if my shoes will ever dry out

Yesterday was my toughest commute yet in our current hot spell. Temperatures weren't the highest but still reached the upper 90s and the humidity was off the charts. Fortunately we didn't get any rain until after I got home because we got some monster thunderstorms that lasted for hours and dumped 3-4" of rain, with high winds and flash floods. The forecast today is calling for more afternoon storms, but hopefully they will hold off again until the evening hours. If I got caught in storms like we had last night, I would have to find cover and figure out another way home.

Here's hoping for just a nice little shower that would cool you off. :thumb:

Still very humid this morning, but the wind and temperature were not bad at all. I think we'll finally get some real heat this weekend and into next week. Stopped and enjoyed a cup of coffee on the way in.

finally a bit of rain last night. Local forests are still a tinder-box though--could be a rough summer.
|
My commute in today a very nice ride. It is humid this morning with a lot of fog and mist keeping everything damp. My riding clothes need the heater under my desk to dry out this am.
|
My commute to work was pretty nice today. It was humid, but wasn't wind and temperature was pretty comfortable (60F) for morning riding. I've rode for 6 miles.

A good ride in this morning. Hot here all week again. I've had 3 weeks in a row of 10 for 10 rides. The one week before those was shortened to 8 out of 8 because of Memorial Day. It was a good spring with many good commutes.
Anyone familiar with kudzu? It's a vine that grows fast and climbs over bushes and trees choking them out. I ride past an area that has been overrun and the vines are trying to cross the road. If it weren't for cars it would probably succeed. It is in the road enough that I can ride over it's new growth these days, until the county maintenance comes along and cuts it back. Here's a picture of what kudzu can do. This is not what I see. Perhaps I'll get a photo sometime. http://nmnh.typepad.com/.a/6a01156e4...1be17ea970c-pi |
It's been a while since I've had a strong headwind to contend with on my commute. Hopefully it continues and I'll have a good tailwind for the ride home. Mid-90's today with a heat-index around 105F!

Humidity slightly lower today so my morning commute felt great. The forecast high also dropped a little, so it's only supposed to reach 97-98 F this afternoon. It's been so hot here lately that the upper 90s actually feel relatively cool when the humidity eases. Hard to believe that the first day of summer was just Sunday because we've had hotter weather so far in June than many years in July and August.

So great to be back on the bike after a week and 2 weekends off for 'vacation'

Back on the bike after a two week vacation. Did ride some while gone but it was mostly flat. Going to be rough not only getting used to the hills but waking up at 4a again. Was a decent temp but had a head wind. Going to be a hot one on the way home.

Jersey and gloves were 100% soaked as if I had ridden in the rain. Blech. At least on the way home, although hot, it will be less humid and I'll have a nice tailwind. |
Enjoying my commute rides. My car has not been started for over 8 weeks. Supposed to be in the 90s this week; I'm not looking forward to it.

Kudzu is rampant in many areas in the south, especially Mississippi. I pass by whole fields of it. Very hard to get rid of it. It was developed during wartime I think as a way to choke out vegetation behind enemy lines, or something.

At least on the way home, although hot, it will be less humid and I'll have a nice tailwind. I got too much sun yesterday, on my four hour ride-my-age birthday ride. Not looking forward to the ride home, and will probably wear my work clothes for sunblocking, though it will be 101° with the heat index. |
Oh almost forgot... I usually leave my office shoes at work on Friday when I leave, so they're there on Monday whether I commute by bike or by car. For some reason I left with them this past Friday and forgot that they were still in the car when I left the house this morning. Oops.
So I'm wearing the bike shoes around the office all day today. Luckily these Bontrager SSR SPD shoes are pretty walkable and okay comfort-wise. Not as much as my normal minimalist shoes but I'll manage. https://igcdn-photos-f-a.akamaihd.ne...28260260_n.jpg |

Dang man you should let it warm up and circulate the oil once a week or so. Not good for the oil to sit in there that long. Besides condensation (causing rust) inside the crankcase, all the oil film is likely gone and it's going to be rough on those metal parts when you start it next time.
