This morning's ride was beautifully cool and calm but I notice they're were just moving equipment into place to re-surface one of the main roads I take so I may have to find an alternate route/gravel roads this evening. Makes me glad I switched from 23's to 33's last week.

Rode 11.4 miles this morning on my road bike then drove to work with food for a week and clothes refresh. It was almost not worth it. passed close by 3 cars and chased by 2 big dogs. I will ride the road bike to work the rest of the week. :thumb:
I ordered some new tires since I called about 3 bike shops and none had decent 700X 28 to fit my commuter. They had bigger 37mm or smaller 23mm but nothing 28mm. So I ordered some online and paid less than if I had ordered from the bike shop. I am not sure why 2 of the stores did not even seem to want to work with me to order some tires that fit my requirements. Could it be too much racing and fast road riding vs utility cycling? I am really sad another shop did not call back in 3 days. They lost my business.. :( |
^That's kinda nuts since 25-28's seem to be pretty popular lately....

Yesterday's smoke from the Rocky Fire cleared out and I took the Ronald McDonald bike on its first commute. Fast! Not fond of the compact handlebars, though.

nice commute both ways. bought some produce on the way home.
saw a trike with no handle bars this morning. it looked like a unicycle with training wheels. lol. |
Warmer and a bit more humid this morning, but not bad. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow. My youngest is turning 10 years old and we're going to a water park for the day.
There is a dead deer in a field across from my neighborhood entrance. It smells bad from about 50 yards away. |

62F this morning - cold fingers |
The shop I frequent doesn't carry the brand I like, but they will eventually order what I want. I say eventually, because I used to work with the manager and hang out with her....she is often forgetful unless I catch her at the register and make it a point to order something. For things I need to order I usually just go online myself. OTOH, I got a few set of free tires from her awhile back (branded Bike Street USA which went out of business last year) so I don't raise too much of a fuss.
My ride in was awesome. Took a road I have been wanting to try for awhile but always kept forgetting about. Turned out to be a terrific route! I love when that happens. It was also hazy so the temps were fairly nice. |
Lower humidity and cool temperatures this morning. Nice ride!

Perfect morning. No wind, sunny, 59°F with negligible humidity. Absolutely one of those days when you know exactly why you bike commute.

Schools are about to reopen for fall semester here, and I am dreading the increase in traffic. The dual threat of school buses and teenage drivers makes for a more "exciting" commute on my route, which passes several schools and bus routes. Fortunately, the city has added a bike lane on the primary road where I encounter school traffic, but many bus drivers continue to pass me as closely as possible, sometimes even crossing into the bike lane.

Rode the road bike (in reference to previous posts... 23mm tires) in today. I felt faster even though the bike computer said it was a little above average speed for the ride. I think the bike did pretty good on the commute definitely lighter and quicker to accelerate. I did not like having my camelbak bag on my back. It was kinda nice to not be carrying panniers but I felt like I was forgetting something. Supposed to be a hot ride home yuck.

Weird commutes for me this week. My kid is in camp two miles from the office along the lakefront trail. We are driving to the office, then she's riding her bike to camp and I'm on a Divvy bike share bike. I'm riding hers back to the office. When I pick her up, it's reversed. It's a great ride, but she rides the smallest frame available with full sized wheels. I bet people get a good laugh when I'm riding her bike. She's 5', I'm 5'10, so her bike is a little small for me.

it's been a good commute these past couple weeks. i have had some falls though.
one was due to me pulling into a squished right sharrow lane and trying to make a left (cars were stopped) but then they started moving and making rights into me. i had to balance to keep from getting run over but i landed on the trunk of a car squeezing me and then i hit the pavement. it was jay st (smith st) and schermerhorn the second was due to me cycling then my shoe lace unraveling and it wrapping around my pedals. this is maybe the 10th time that's happened but i was able to pull over to the sidewalk and undo it in the past. this time, i fell b/c i leaned in a weird way and was going way too slow while i pulled over, causing some balance issues and then the fall. when i got home, i cut those laces since they've been nothing but trouble since i got the shoes (chrome kursks). the cycling shoes are great. but the shoelaces are much too long and get caught on the cranks as well as the inside of the pedals. i got scuffed up on my legs and knees but nothing terrible. i'm going to a bike handling class this week. i haven't had any self-inflicted falls up til now. i'm thinking it's due to the heat i'm making bad judgment calls. i don't know. i made some fun bunny hops over gravel and a middle road divider which was fun. some crazy motorists out there passing way too close, but for the most part, no issues. mostly the commutes have been fine, just a lot more trafficked than usual in some spots and empty in others. i went to a bike fit clinic last week and changed out my saddle. i'm glad i found the saddle i was looking for. women's road riva. it's so much better. |

Today started off with me having to walk my bike to through my yard to the neighbors driveway and still having to step in a foot of water, but after that I got to see the sun (which has only been seen one other day in the last 21 days), then I got attacked by a dog who bit my shorts and luckily did not break my skin (had dog slobber on my leg though and luckily did not knock me off) but I have teeth marks in my shorts, then I almost got hit by a car, peds walking into the bike lane without looking the usual, but somehow out of all these adventures today I still arrived to work with a smile on my face and am looking forward to my ride home.

I know the more I commute the more likely it is to experience issues. Today's ride was a one way 15 mile jaunt to work filled with 3 cars attempting to murder me and one pickup truck that passed me and then slowed down to gun his engine spewing diesel exhaust all up in my face. You know it you have probably seen it before the huge black cloud they pickup makes when he steps on the gas?

Had a few weeks of mid 60's with warm humidity for my morning rides. Yesterday the temps have fallen to the low 50's so the long sleeve shirt is back out. The ride home I switched to the short sleeve for the warmer temps. Was nice enough I took a 3 mile detour of city trail, black top and then finished with gravel back to my regular route. This morning it was low 50's with fog. Very cold on the hands. Fall weather is coming fast. Seeing plenty of does with fawns and the occasional coyote to keep the ride interesting.

Be careful and I hope the next 4-7 rides are uneventful.. you have had enough in one morning to last you for a while.

Extremely humid and warm this morning. I was so wet when I arrived a work that I couldn't remove the headlight from my bike because my hands were too sweaty to grip the strap. The high temperature is supposed to reach the upper 90s this afternoon, so the heat index should be above 100. Not looking forward to the afternoon commute.

Steady rain all the way home last night. It rained again early this morning, but stopped before I started my commute. The roads were still very wet, but at least it wasn't raining on me.
|
Got my first ride in today after almost a week and a half off the bike (needed some more tubes, local shop didn't have the right size so I had to order them, USPS screwed over my shipping, blah blah). Just did an easy 6 miles. Weather was cloudy with some obvious rain showers coming our way later, but I stayed dry and cool the whole ride.
|
Another perfect ride. I believe it was 59°F, with maybe 50% humidity when I rode in between 7 and 8 this morning. No wind, dry conditions, sun coming up in the sky, what's not to like?
|
Perfect weather for commuting and I had to drive because of appointments... argh, killed another 4 week, ride every day streak
