Anybody know a good turn signal system?
So, technically, I have to have turn signals, because an e-bike is a moped in my state. Everything else I have covered, including brake lights (bought a couple of those LucidBrake lights.
I bought a Chinese turn signal thing years ago, it was cheap in price, and it was a piece of crap.
Any experience with the Garmin Varia system?

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.
I am also interested in a quality turn signal (I may just work something up with an Arduino board).

No, just a $7.50 tag from the Secretary of State good for 3 years. Although this is controversial - some people have argued it's NOT required - as I read the law and the literature from the SOS, it is. I guess I'll know for sure when I go there and try to do it.

Bontrager has that Flare R system where two can be connected together and then controlled by a little handlebar button unit.
This: Bontrager Transmitr Remote | Trek Bikes
Can control up to 7 lights, including 2 of these, which can be set up to function as turn signals: Bontrager Flare R Tail Light | Trek Bikes

I'd just get the cheapest one I could find to get the tag then take the blinkers off. I used to live in Michigan and still vacation there every summer. I have upgraded off-road motorcycles to get a license plate and as soon as I get the plate take off all the extra DOT stuff I don't need for anything but getting the tag. Law Enforcement just checks for the tag and either can't be bothered or don't care if the motorcycle has all the stuff to make it road legal. It's stupid.

I bought both at regular LBS's in the Detroit area. I had to special-order the Prodeco, the Haibike was actually at a small local chain's clearance outlet store, since it was a 2015 they had had on hand for almost 2 years.
Keep in mind, these are not "mopeds" except by virtual of the fact that the State of Michigan can't bother to modernize and clarify things, and the old law from 1948 says basically two wheels, motor, under 30 mph = moped. E-bikes didn't exist in 1948, no doubt.
I assume - without bothering to check - that actual, real "mopeds" probably are required to have those safety features built-in under US Federal laws/regulations. Again, going back to the Consumer Product Safety Commission administrative rules, e-bikes are not "motorized" under their definition, so are exempt from the requirements that "real" mopeds and motorcycles must have to follow.
I have no problem coming up with lights, etc - just wanted to know, for the purpose of this thread - if anyone knew of a decent system, better than the cheap Chinese stuff that breaks in 2 weeks.

My handlebars on some of my bikes look like the cockpit panel from a jet plane some times with all of the tech I put on there!
