Shoelaces

Here’s my tip of the week for e-bike commuters:

Make sure you have your shoelaces together. You know, ’cause you really don’t want those to get stuck...

Tie 'em, then push them under the crossover laces on the outside.

@linberl: Yeah, got that already. It’s amazing how quickly one learns ;-)

It wasn’t easy to pull them out in such discomfort. And they really got stuck!
Got emergency scissors on stand-by though.

I tie mine permanently on the inside of the top outer eyelet, then cut off the excess. Laced shoes/boots/trainers but they're slip-ons.

Twice now, my laces have wrapped around the axle of the pedal and wrapped themselves tight as I pedalled. I was able to unwind them after I stopped. Good reason to have a throttle to power the bike to a safe harbor,

If you google it, there are lacing patterns that actually make it so the "tie" happens between the top holes on the outside of the shoe. It still laces and holds the shoe tight. You can do that. You can tuck the laces under the crossed lacing. You can get those plastic lace holders. But do something, because you can have a nasty accident otherwise.

@linberl: THX! Didn’t know about that yet.

Like knitting, seems like a fun thing to do on a rainy day or when the electricity breaks :-)

That's exactly the same as how i do mine, but inside out - so my ladder is on the outside, and the verticals on the inside. This makes the shoe look good.
Then the knot at the side is on the inside (reef knot so it's flat). Then i cut off the excess, with about a quarter inch stump, once i'm happy with the tension, and it's just a slip on shoe. The knot never comes undone.

Done this since i was a teenager, for looks and convenience. It probably won't work with a pair of Brogue winkle pickers but it's great for Reebok Classics.
