TREK FX+ discontinued?

Does anyone know if the FX+ has been discontinued? I went to Trek's website just a minute ago & it's not showing up, even though the rest of the Ride+ models are. I haven't heard anything official, but if that's the case, it's too bad. It's been a great bike for me.

Maybe all of this years production has shipped? It's on dealer's floors.

I fired off an email to Trek. We'll see if it gets answered.

They have Twitter. See if they'll respond through that. I don't tweet so...

Trek World, their industry bike show, is going down this week, so don't expect a blistering quick reply...

Looks like no updates for 2012, but the FX is still listed on the dealer site as a current model, so a carryover model from 2011.

FX+ shows up if you go to Bikes->Road->Fitness->FX:

https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...s/fx/fx_plus/#

2012 edition. My guess is that it's a website glitch where they simply forgot to add it to the Ride+ category as well as FX category.

How long have you been riding it? I test drove one, it was a lot of fun but wondering how folks liked it after some long-use.

I suppose it depends on what you are buying it for. I use it for a commute with a huge hill in the middle. I love it. When it's time to get a new commuter, it will be another FX+ (or whatever replaces it). I had some early problems with it (Hub & spoke issues). The hub issue was resolved immediately, the spokes took a long time to fix (From April through December last year-they just kept breaking). Eventually the bike was fixed correctly & I have had zero issues with it since. I had originally planned to use it as a replacement for my other bikes & just take off the battery when I wanted to ride without assistance. In reality, it's a little heavy to ride like that & I still enjoy my other bikes for 'fun' miles, but I have absolutely no regrets in buying it.

I love my FX+ as a commuter!

I totally agree with MK313 - I use my FX+ as a commuter (with Ortlieb Bike Packer Plus panniers) and haven't regretted leaving my car at home. My commute is ~15 miles each way and by having the FX+ it makes my commute easier for those steep hills and quick take-offs from a stop at busy intersections where cars are itching to zip past, not expecting a bicycle to launch quickly from a stop. The bicycle itself is heavy, especially with the panniers; I just got my son a FX 5.2 and it's quite a difference in weight. The weight doesn't appear to be an issue when the assist kicks in and helps you fly up a steep hill. If you're on the fence about getting an FX+, I hope these posts can sway you towards the rewards of having a little power behind your pedal!

Greetings MK313:

I was wondering if you plan to ride your FX+ in winter, assuming you get snow/ice/etc? I'm nearing 1000 mi. on my Trek FX+ since I got it in mid-June and I'm contemplating whether I should commute with it as much as possible through winter. I didn't know if you had any first-hand experience and/or if you made any modifications to the FX+ for the season (i.e. winter studded tires, wider tires, etc).

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your reply.

Yah, I"m in suburban Cleveland, so snow/ice, etc is part of the game. I do ride into winter, but I stop once it starts to snow. I have a really steep hill on the way home & I'm worried about catching ice & going over. I do ride down to pretty cold, but no precipitation. you may want to send Jerry the Spinner a Private message. Not sure if he still checks the boards, but he has an FX+ (or a valencia, i Forget) but he rides year round in New York, so he'd likely have some good info for you on dealing with the weather. Good luck & let us know how it goes for you.

does the FX include a odometer? (or a trip mileage computer? or lifetime?) or only current mph?

The computer does total mileage, trip mileage, avg. speed, clock as well as displaying current speed, battery use and regenerative use, depending on what level you select

I opted for the FX+; I think the 7200+ caters to the segment that prefers a more-upright riding posture. I use my FX+ as a commuter - I have Ortlieb Bike Packer Plus Panniers that easily attach/detach from the included FX+ rear rack. My commute is +15 mi/ea. way and I haven't had any problems* with soreness with this bicycle, even with 65 mi. rides (*once I swapped out the Bontrager saddle to a Brooks B17 Special).

Give both a try, if available.

I think that for the purchase price, the 7200 is a lot less bike for the money. In reality, about $1500 or so is for the electronic components/ motor, etc. The 7200 seems to have lower quality components, a front shock (IIRC) & a more upright posture. If you remove the motor, the FX+ seems like a much better bike on paper. Since most of the $ is going towards the electronics, I wanted to make sure that I got the best 'rest of the bike' that I could. The FX+ just seemed like such a better deal in that regard, for not a lot of extra $.
