Wahoo RFLKT vs Cateye smart

Ok, first I'm have an android phone, Samsung Galaxy s5, which I believe has ant+. But from what I can figure out, none of the features available with the Wahoo RFLKT+ are usable on android, so spending the extra money for the plus would be a waste? Or could they possibly make the plus features compatible with android in the future?

So the Cateye can display call notifications (and does this work on android?), but you only get a notification, not who is calling? The only calls I would usually care about while riding would be from my kids or their school, so if I still have to pull out my phone to see who is calling, the notification isn't too important. Also you can only use the Cateye cycling app with their device, or can you run it with another app? And can you run the Wahoo RFLKT with any app it supports? And what is the difference between the Padrone smart and Strada smart? Is it just screen size?

And for speed and cadence sensors, you can use just about any sensor, like the Topeak panobike with either device? The Cateye has sensor direct mode so that if you forget to charge your phone or start the app, you can still view the sensor info and upload it later. Has anyone tested this? And Wahoo, with sensors, still needs an app running to work?

And lastly, if running the non-premium Strava app, with a sensor, you still won't be able to view current speed, only average? Or will adding a sensor allow you to see your current speed?

Sorry for the jumble of questions. I'm trying to figure out which device is right for me. I'll always have my phone with me, but sometimes I forget to fully charge it, so it would be nice to still be able to use the Cateye as a computer if phone battery is low. However, the reviews for the Cateye are pretty poor. The Wahoo seems to be the better device, but they all seem to leave us android users behind.

If you don't have any sensors at the present time, it shouldn't matter because the RFLKT will work with any BlueTooth sensors. If you already have Ant+ sensors, the answer is that Wahoo will not make a Android compatible RFLKT+. The Android hardware does not provide the needed feature for the RFLKT+ to bridge Ant+ sensors.

So the Cateye can display call notifications (and does this work on android?), but you only get a notification, not who is calling? The only calls I would usually care about while riding would be from my kids or their school, so if I still have to pull out my phone to see who is calling, the notification isn't too important. The call notification is a feature of the software and not the device. You may want to check out the MapMyRide or Strava apps to see if they provide that feature and if that feature is passed onto the RFLKT as a display item. Both the Cateye and Topeak PanoBike devices will only run with their cycling app. You can't use a third party app on either of these devices. The RFLKT is compatible with any of the apps listed on their website except Cyclemeter (iPhone only). The main difference between the Padrone and Strada Smart is the screen size and layout. The Padrone series gives you more data on the screen in a more legible layout.

And for speed and cadence sensors, you can use just about any sensor, like the Topeak panobike with either device? As long as the sensors are BlueTooth than you can use them with either the Cateye, Topeak or Wahoo devices on an Addroid. The advantage of the Cateye and Topeak devices is the fact that you can use them as standalone units whereas the RFLKT must be connected to the phone.

And lastly, if running the non-premium Strava app, with a sensor, you still won't be able to view current speed, only average? Or will adding a sensor allow you to see your current speed?
Almost all of the free versions of most cycling apps disable the use of sensors, among other features. You will need to upgrade to their premium version for those features to be activated. However, Strava should still show your current speed but it will be from GPS data. GPS data is not as accurate, is slower updating the speed display and can lose satellite connection in certain areas. Sensors are more reliable and a bit more accurate than GPS speed.

FYI the only app that supports call notification on the RFLKT is the Wahoo Fitness app that I know of.

However... the call notifications on the RFLKT are iOS only, as is the ANT+ support, so neither of these features will work on Android.

Strava does not show current speed, at least the android app doesn't, only your average speed. You have to be a premium member for that. If it wasn't for that, the app would be great. I don't want to spend the money for the premium membership just for that one feature. Especially when you can get a RFLKT or other computers for around the same price.

Anyway I did get a
RFLKT, not the plus as it didn't look like any of the plus features work with android which is a shame. I've only used it for one ride. There was a slight delay for the signal to reach the device, but maybe that's because I was using gps speed. I used it with the Wahoo Fitness app, and there's no auto-pause feature on the app? I need to play around with it more and try other apps with it too. I also got a Topeak Panobike for a sensor, but it won't be here until Monday.
