Help with Polar CS600

I installed a used CS600 on my bike and I'm having a problem with the cadence sensor. I can not get a flashing light indicating the unit is working. The sensor is integral to the power sensor main unit that is powered by 2AAA batteries. The power sensor works as it should. I have tried manually moving a magnet directly against the cadence notch with no luck.

Does anyone know if the power sensor main unit contains a separate battery for the cadence sensor. The manual for this computer is lacking in details.

Thanks in advance for any help.
