Hi All,

I'm looking to see if there are any headlights specifically designed to use a lower or hanging GoPro mount such as you find on those out-front Garmin mounts. You know what I mean:



I've seen that light brands like Lezyne, Blackburn, NiteRider and Light&Motion have GoPro mount options, but the actual headlamps are just their regular ones, which are really designed to mount above the bar.

A purpose-built light for that mount position is what I'd like, such that design elements like lens hoods, graphics, and control buttons would be properly located for their purpose and use in the lower position.

Anyone seen a light like that?

Have one on my k-edge. You can monitor it with your garmin (battery level etc.) and can se it up in various automatic modes (if you have garmin, brightness based on speed, etc). Button is on the side, so easily accessible.

Ah, yes, thanks [MENTION=195685]GeneO[/MENTION]! I have seen the UT800, and as a Wahoo user, it's a little less attractive because of the lost functionality, although the styling doesn't catch me, either.

I don't know if the Cycliq (https://cycliq.com/products/fly12/) cares which end is up, unless you think the writing on the side is significant. Interesting concept, I'm not sure how I feel about the combination of a light and camera, but it makes SWMBO feel better.

I don't doubt that's considered cool in certain circles.

The Fly12 is pretty cool, but really a little more than I need. I have a GoPro Hero4 Session for capturing ride pics and video already, and I really just want a headlight for occasional need. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Headlight designers in Germany design the beam spread assuming that is wher the light would be mounted.

Both have GoPro mounts. I own the 800 fast charge and paid $120 for it when it first came out.

Yes, were I so smart, I would...and I'd make it the same size and shape as the GoPro Hero Session, so I could just pop the light in the same mounting frame the camera uses. How cool would that be!t

There is a guy from Vancouver BC that has aluminum GoPro style mounts for the Magicshine lights. If I can find the link I will post it. He is usually on MTBR.com

Do Magicshine have all-in-ones now? Or just external battery units?

Thanks. Although none of those are what I am looking for, it’s nice to be aware of options. The Lupine SLA is so very close to what I want stylistically, and really cool, but needs on-board battery, topside mount point, and relocated controls. It’s so neat, though, I might just want one anyway!

Sweet, thanks for the heads-up. The Magicshine Monteer is more than I need, but maybe I’ll check to see if there is a GoPro mount for its Eagle mount system. I’m hoping to pull off a tour in southern Brazil/Uruguay in the next couple of years, and the discreet, dual circuitry with easy swap 18650 cells is attractive for that.

So what exactly are you looking for, when all these options to mount a light below the handlebar aren't the ones you want?
For example, combining the Supernova Adapter with the B&M IQ-X Speed and the K-edge holder gives you plenty of light with cutoff-beam.

What exactly do you mean with onboard battery? The frame-mounted battery pack of the SL A is connected to the lighthead via DC-cable.
Mounting point can be topside or downside, since the mounting holes are on the side of the lamp.

Yikes! I definitely don’t want a setup so busy as that!

I want a simple, single-unit (i.e. battery & lamp in same housing) solution which is meant and designed to be mounted by the top of the unit.

Looking at the example of the desired light type and mount position pictured below, you can clearly see that the light was neither designed nor meant to be mounted in that position. Lettering and housing design elements plainly indicate it is upside down, the mount is an ungainly, afterthought adapter, and control buttons and indicators are out of sight underneath the unit. Bad.

The Light & Motion lights operate from a single button, which does indeed face down when the light is mounted underneath a Garmin. But the light itself is not up/down directional like many lights, and I find the light far easier to operate "upside down" than "right side up." Also really helps that the lights are plenty bright, inexpensive, and the GoPro adapter is $12.

Added bonus, the amber side markers are really nice.

Yeah, I'll probably grab either one of those or a Lezyne XL series, like the Lite Drive 700XL. Their GoPro adapter is $2.99!

I appreciate that you are looking for a battery powered solution so discard this post from that perspective but since dynamo lights got referred to I thought I would mention that Busch & Muller and Schmidt do dynamo front lights designed to be mounted "upside down."

The Schmidt Edelux II comes with a version which is an upside down mount:



and the Busch & Muller Lumotec IQ-X mounting ring can be turned to mount the light upside down [and it is designed for that purpose].

Oh, I just read DCRainmaker's review, and I didn't realize the comm channel with a GPS head unit (for settings and features like auto speed dimming) is an open ANT+ protocol, so Wahoo could enable that functionality in future firmware updates to ELEMNT, so maybe the UT800 will be the one after all! Thanks again.

Also, Cycliq just announced their new Fly12 CE model, which is a light/safety cam combo. Not bad!
