Light Mount
Hi all,
I've been doing more night riding over the past several months and have been agonizing over which front light would be the best fit for my bike. The light I had been using is inadequate for being able to see but is just fine for being seen. I finally sprung for a niterider micro 750. I also was drawn to the decent run time at its medium setting since I doubt I'll be using the max setting very often and of course its small size. The entire reason I had been putting this purchase off for so long is my limited handlebar space gave me little options for mounting it. My bicycle is a Specialized Diverge A1 subcompact with some aftermarket cross lever breaks installed. A lot of my riding is around the city so I am 100% unwilling to remove the cross level breakers. I also use a Niteize rubber phone mount that attaches to my stem and pushes my phone so that it sits above where the stem attaches to the handlebar and is of course a bit wider, blocking what little handlebar space I have available. The phone can be pushed down so the stretchy rubber catches the top of the phone but this is not an ideal solution.
I've thought about getting a stem mounted gopro mount but would also need to purchase a gopro to niterider lumia adapter and of course the adapter would not work with other lights. Another possibility is one of those handlebar extenders but I think they would interfere with my phone as well.
What I'd really like is something similar to the stem mounted Redshift Shockstop Utility mount since it is just a simple bar that I can use to attach any brand of light. The problem is that is a pretty expensive light mounting solution since it only fits their shockstop stem (not that I haven't been tempted to try it since the roads around here such). Another problem with this is I would need to find another phone mount since the niteize looks like it's only good for round stems.
I was wondering if you guys and gals may have run into this problem and had a workable solution?

So I'd say go the GoPro mount option, however the one issue I see with it is that from my experience, the NiteRider light's I've had in the past did not work well inverted. The beam pattern on mine made them hard to aim upside down, and without having the extended bit on top, I frequently blinded myself when out of the saddle. It's possible NR has changed their lighting so their lights work better upside down, it's been several years since I used any of their products. If you're just using your phone and not a computer, and can fit a K-Edge style mount on your bars long enough to mount the light right side up, I'd go that route.
My rides start before dawn, and depending on the time of year, finish before dawn probably 8 months out of the year. Ultimately, what I ended up doing was custom mounting a higher end tactical flashlight (NiteCore SRT5 at first, now SRT7) on a K-Edge GoPro mount with a metal pipe clamp. My saying this is probably going to draw the ire of several because I'm using a flashlight... and I'd agree with them if it were a cheap flashlight or one of those with the convex lenses. Honestly, there's probably not real good way to be able to put together a good lighting system on the cheap. Either way, you're going to probably be out $100+ total to get something good and usable for extended periods of time.

LET'S ROLL
If you wear/use a helmet; US$15 if I remember correctly:

Also, this is assuming the Micro Lumia series uses the same mounts as the standard Lumia series.
