Garmin 310XT or Timex Global Trainer or something else?
Hi everyone,
I have a Garmin 705 for my bike that I use while training. I am interested in getting a watch for triathlons so that I can capture some info while running and swimming as well as biking.
I was thinking of picking up either the Garmin 310XT or the Timex Global Trainer. Both seem similar in price and features. They're both ANT+ compatible, etc. so I think the Timex will still be compatible with my Garmin stuff (cadence sensor, etc.).
However, I'm a little hesitant because both watches are so big. They look ridiculous on my wrist.
Any thoughts from others here? Any thoughts on whether I should get the Garmin or the Timex or something else? Should I just get a small watch without all of the fancy stuff since I already have a Garmin 705?
Anyway, thanks in advance.

ok thanks for the response. i'm a little torn because at least from my research, i think they are both similar in terms of functionality. however, i actually think that the timex looks more like a watch while the garmin looks like a mini-computer type thing. i think the timex isn't as popular because it's only sold at REI until september and they've been out of stock a lot, etc. so they are a little harder to get.
i was originally planning to wear the watch every day but maybe neither watch will work like that.
i tried wearing both watches and they both look a little big and out of place. i'm used to big watches (normally wear a panerai) but these watches are even bigger.
anyway, thanks for your input.

Yeah, I did some more looking at the Timex watch. Looks a little more complicated to me. When I first started looking, I was looking for something that I could wear all the time. I'm glad I opted for what I did though. After sweating on it for a couple hours, I'm ready to have it off my wrist.

I ended up getting the timex anyway. I tried both watches on and the Garmin was a little bit smaller but I just didn't like the look that much. The timex is big but it looks like a regular watch. Neither watch is very stealth though.

Hey just got back from Fleet Feet, Knoxville. They have a demo Timex GlobalTrainer. . .
My. God. It. Is. Huge.
Like the size of an Tastykake Candy Cake.
I've been using the Timex Ironman Speed + Distance for. . . I guess the past four years. Anyway, my Trail Runner is on its last legs (I was too hard on it, I guess) and the price online is around $160 or so and it's SUPPOSED to come with a bike mount.. But dang if it isn't huge. Ginormous!
Maybe I should just get a cheap watch and use mapmyrun. . .
Sigh. Technology.

I've been split between the two for triathlon purposes.
Check out the following links, about as good of a review as I ever seen on the net. Be sure to make a pot of coffee, they're LONG reads! lol
310XT

Timex

It seems as the Timex, at the time of the review, had a couple bugs. Which is expected of a new product. Interesting to see what the next Gen. brings.

So how are you felling about your decision now that you have had a while to use it?
