Eventually someone will mine these forums for personal information, and correlate it with your postings on Facebook, twitter, anonymous news comments, and whatever other social media you utilize. Possibly along with gps and cell tower location services. Don't even ask why - the data will be useful to someone in ways that are unforeseeable, and public information tends to persist. Perhaps for decades.

@Rootman Advice well taken but I think you'd have to make yourself a target before anyone would put forth the effort to dig deeper into you. There are probably thousands if not hundreds of thousands of internet posts everyday. Probably avoiding some simple keywords and phrases would suffice.

You can also find posts by googling. If you brag here about how your significant other believed you when you said you found that Pinarello Dogma or (fill in the blank) in a dumpster, your asking for trouble. Online activity gives you less privacy than a glass house.

As many of these posts point out no one's life is immaterial. There are people actively wanting to know about you, no matter who you are. It is impossible to live a modern life in complete anonymity. But, a person can be smart and not give away the keys to the kingdom.

You don't need to worry about your info getting out there. The IRS and numerous other governmental agencies are doing a great job, supplying it to any number of unknown hackers. My sister, as a former government worker, got her info hacked, and she doesn't even have a computer/smart phone nor know how to use one.

A conversation with my bank illustrates how much detailed info they gather.
I wanted to do business but somehow had triggered one of their fraud alerts. So they asked me questions about where I lived 30 years ago, the color of a vehicle I owned 20 years ago, where I shopped, and so on. It was done in multiple choice format, and, yes I called them and verified the number.
No one's life is beyond notice for profit and power.
