i am moving on to other threads, given some folks only want to argue after not actually having read what has been written. Best wishes.

I suggest you use your professional skills for something more worthwhile; perhaps analyze why you are so concerned about the riding effort of strangers, or why YOUR "perceived" lack of such makes YOU so grumpy and judgmental.

Thanks for the thoughtfulness.
i wish I had done a better job of describing this. It is free ride and not DH. For comparison, there is a local downhill that takes a 4 mile uphill ride to get to the top. A lot of folks push, because if they (we depending upon the bike) did not, the downhill would not be all that much fun with a totally spent body. The freeride is a two minute or so run with a lot of flow and speed. The one ride back to the top might be a 1/4 mile and is pretty easy on my SS ( and I am not a stud). The other ride back to the top was some effort on my SS, but not much. Most of the guys who ride this area are in what appears to be good shape and good health (I cannot imagine someone with significant issues doing gap jumps and drops).
It is way quicker to ride back up and not that strenuous. People are always visiting at the top, so there is time to catch your breath, and it could not ruin your ride.
So, I am still surprised and I still think it is laziness. But, again, it is their ride and all I am doing is posting a perspective.

Oddly enough when I was racing in NORBA "back when" the competition was quite intense and the courses very challenging but I never once heard that one should "HTFU" if not on the podium.
Quite the opposite as it was a very friendly and relaxed group once the racing was done.
Things must be quite intense now on a local trail that is "not that hard of a hill" leading up to a popular gravity ride that any HTFU-ness would be required or even desirable for anyone of any age.
edit: Although I'm elderly moving right smartly along has been a characteristic of my cycling style for a good long while now but no HTFU-ness that I can recall in a variety of cycling disciplines.
Is anyone else other than the OP a current or past practitioner of HTFU technique and skills? My coaches were oddly concerned with a good fit, handling skills, endurance, power and speed instead.
BTW: If you have ever ridden the Kilometer event on the track or the District Time Trial on the road and come back for a 2nd try to beat your 1st time you have a pass for further lifetime HTFU-ness.

Hmm...This thread seems to be going about as well here as it did in SSFG.
Will the OP try for a third forum?

It's Cycling for me: Track, Road, 'Cross, MTB and just plootering about w/o any HTFU-ness at all.
Call me Old School.
Oh, and knitting. Gritty competive off road knitting that one will HTFU out of that the soft lazy kids these days will never keep up with.
Knit one, pearl two and HTFU you got a nice scarf.....
BTW: When were you going to post in the Mountain Bike sub-forum regarding you "sadness" about the current generation's lack of hill climbing grit in comparison to your own and admonish them to (wait for it) HTFU?

My favorite sprint is a 1-K on a boardwalk (not heavily travelled), rattles the crap out of me at 30mph. Then I continue with the remaining 25mi. Sometimes that rule 5 stuff just gets me home.

I have no opinion I want to share on this topic. I just want to point out we are on day 4 and, as we sometimes do, going on and on and on with a topic. On 12/1/15, if there is a new post, I will declare this to be a "Methuselah Thread." Will my declaration mean anything or carry any weight? No.
