Dude, I submit that they are interchangable. https://www.andrew.cmu.edu/course/76-451/watts.html

This link will take you to a paper that gives a LOT more detail on the use of those two words than I had any earthly idea ever existed. Damn I love the internet, the amount of information, useful and otherwise really is incredible.

Seriously, I, too, am a confirmed traps user. I just wish I could find a good pair of shoes to use with them.
My "sneaks" just ahve way too much flex
Why not just get a good pair of clipless bike shoes and don't install the clips? Most MTB shoes have a pretty firm sole but still allow easy walking.

Here is an idea: If you buy them from your LBS ask to try them on a demo bike mounted in a trainer. Or if you already have one or a buddie has one. This way you can work on the mount/dismount part of using clipless pedals. Also you can make the fine adjustments in spring tension(release tension) that will allow you to get out safely yet keep you clipped in when riding. This way you will not crash on your first ride due to poor adjustment and such. Good luck. I use Bebop's.

Dang. And no less an authority than Merriam-Webster would seem to concur. I'm not sure what Mr Watt's credentials are but he also cites M-W and, damn he sure has the sheer numbers to back it up.

For me a day is wasted if I do not learn one new thing. Today has not been a waste. Thank you.

Now, I've heard that before and I've superficially checked out some MTB shoes and I wondered if that was really a viable option. Maybe I'll give that a shot.

The older the rider, the more intimidating the fall could be. After 6 years of road riding, I still am very cautious when I slow down or enter uneasy tight traffic conditions. I began with Speedplays X-2 which was easy to get in and out and now use Zero's which are a little more difficult.

I find myself avoiding the tight traffic. I am amazed at the daring the bike messengers display in cities like New York.
