Intro, Warning, long & boring!!

Wow, I found a home....:D

I am a newbie coming back..Never was real good at biccyling, but I love the exercise. My son gave me used 70ish Raleigh Competition GS, way back in 1982. I ride it every now and then. However, the old man got married recently.. Oh yeah, and my wife is 23 years my junior!:D
I am an exercise freak. I workout at the gym 6 days a week.

I luckingly found a mate for my old Raleigh. A used Schwinn Traveler for the wifee!! It is the shop getting tune, and as soon as it comes out, me and the wifee are going riding!!:D

BTW, you can see I am coming back on the cheap too!! :D

This thread is great.:thumb:
People 65 and over usually get discriminated over.
I got a big yap too.. ;)

Here is my Raleigh, will post a pic of the Schwinn as soon as it comes out the shop.

I'm a liberal, too, but it doesn't matter as this group is about bikes, not politics. My bike ia willing to go to the right as well as the left.

That is all the RIGHT MOVES rolled into one. Some people don't realize how HARD it is to quit smoking. I got lucky. ;) In addition, a lot of people don't realize how you benifit when you stop smoking. I quit some 20 years ago too. My health went up 400%. Your 6 day routine is on the money too.:thumb:

gotta give you big props...:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

As we BOTH know, that gym and/or working out is the key to longitivity. Not only that, if you got a rush for young actions, like we both have, we got to keep the body up to par to do what our minds want..

When I grow up, I want to be just like you!!! :D :thumb:

i had two hobbies that intersected. ww2 reenacting and cycling. the Brits the Germans and to a lesser extent the US Army used bicycles in ww2, so I have 3 bikes outfitted like that, actually several German Wehrmacht fahrraden, there is a group of reenactors who are into bikes, cant think of tieir url right now tho. I have ridden German bikes at reenactments. and there are usually several parked around the encampment of each German unit. Swiss bikes are used as well as many European bikes as the Germans tended to steal the locals bikes, Oh excuse me commandeer. appropriate whatever. Martin Caiden wrote a book about bicycles at war. I remember reading a chapter about a Doctor escaping the German assault in the Ardennes(the battle of the bulge) on a bike, He later became the head of the L.A.W. League of American Wheelmen. A spy on the French side carried documents in his handlebars claiming to be on a training ride. The Germans never had a clue.

That's great stuff. Not into reactments, but I like following the events of WW2. The Battle of the Bulge, and Midway, IMO were classic battles, and the world will never seen anything like them again..

Ken Brown 05-18-10 06:49 PM

Turned 65 two weeks ago so this is my first visit to this thread. I was hoping I wouldn't see postings here about centuries but, alas, some people can still do it. Actually I never did ride a century, though I am sure I could have when younger. My maximum was 90 miles when I was 35, but that was touring with loaded panniers in hilly countryside and I had enough energy left to explore Seattle on foot that evening.

A few years ago I could do 100 km touring but my maximum seems to be about 60 km now. I can still go fast and I am strong up short hills, but endurance just isn't what it used to be.

Burr 05-18-10 07:26 PM

Welcome to "The Old Group", hope you kids can keep up.

Ken, you do what you enjoy! If it's 20 miles three times a week fine, that's what I do. Thing is enjoy everything you do, push as hard as you want to. It's like giving money to the cuURch, you don't give till it hurts you give till it feels good.

I also lift weight three days a week and today my wonderful wife joined me so maybe She will want to do more often.

Welcome, enjoy and please post often.
