I got out this morning and did a 29.6 gravel road ride with my son. The winds were busy today but at least we weren’t hot while riding. There was a bit more climbing than I usually ride. But there were no cars to speak of so it was a pleasant day out riding.

Running errands, having fun and enjoying the sun and afternoon warmth. Last day to spend Medicare’s $40 OTC benefit.

Took my regular Sunday before church loop. It's about 16-17 miles and I used to get out just as the sun was coming up to enjoy the sunrise but it has been hard to get out early these days.
From the top of this hill, I think I could see my house in the distance... If I was Steve Austin. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...35bc41a76.jpeg |

Rode 14 miles this morning.
I made an effort to get an earlier start today. Saw 2 other cyclist riding together. Probably doing a loop out of the city near me. (Waxahachie) |
I've had a big June. As of Friday I had ridden 30 consecutive days. Yesterday alas was a washout with lots of rain so I took a break. Finished the month today with a short but hilly 37 km (658 m). Total for the month 1300.9 km, 14701 m vertical. Not bad for a pensioner (66). Mostly gravel riding, but a couple of nice afternoons and evenings riding around Montreal. Going to be off the bike for a couple of days, tomorrow is prep day for a colonoscopy on Tuesday. A few of this month's highlights:

Windy sixteen mile neighborhood ride today.
Cheers, Scott |
Had a very enjoyable ride today (7/1) on the local MUP. 18 miles and while I wasn't trying, was riding faster than usual and hills seemed easier than usual. Haven't been riding much of late due to the heat and humidity. But today never even got to 80, and humidity was low!! No days like that are forecast for the new future, but sure happy to have it for one day. C'mon fall!! Met a nice couple, around my age I'd guess, who also ride "analog" bikes. We all rode up a steep hill, then continued on a little further up a moderate climb. There was a paved side loop they had never ridden, though they had ridden past it. So we rode around it, and they really enjoyed it. Nice company and was glad to provide another option for them to ride. All in all, a very fine day!!

Got my ride in this morning before the heat set-in. At the end of my ride it was already 80. |
Rode 13 miles this morning. Got started at 9:30 and it was already hot.

Into Issaquah today. Sheesh - traffic on Hobart Rd southbound was a 5 mph parking lot for miles before I turned off.
I got to the PooPoo trailhead and hang gliding landing zone. Only a minute late and I had to stop quickly to get a distant pic of the last to land in a group of three - each a tandem flyer. Maybe should have sprtinted that last 1/2 mile. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5dfbd8842.jpeg My lightest ride is nimble and stable. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8c1545481.jpeg and fun to ride. Oh,….I went to the small produce market, which I like because they always have sample tastes of many of the fruits. Really cuts the chances of something mediocre. Very nice melons! (If the taste is due to early heat far from me - my apologies) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...faaf20b72.jpeg |
I got out early this morning at 6:30. The weather was nice at that time of day. I rode for 20 miles with some new to me roads.

I didn't have a plan for where or how far I would ride today. But I know it would have been longer than the 6 miles I did. Riding out I noticed a creak in the bar and stem area. As bad as my hearing is, If I can hear a creak without my hearing aids, it needs investigation. The handlebar clamp, stem bolt and headset locknut were all loose.

Got in ten miles before the rain hit. Might get out again this afternoon if the rain clears up and the roads dry out.
Cheers, Scott |
Feel like I'm turning into a real wuss with the heat this year. Just got home from feeding and spoiling our horse (nice old fella), checking out the gardens and bringing in some tomatoes and zucchini and t-shirt already wet. Still need to get back out and pick some blackberries (yum!) Guess 86 degrees with 85% humidity will do that! Used to be it wouldn't stop me, but as years accumulate, my tolerance of heat has significantly decreased. Used to mtn bike in the 90's, wouldn't even road bike in what I just came in from. To be fair, when I used to ride (mtn bike) in 90's, I was soaking wet, but didn't give a damn! To all who are riding with heat and all, I salute you! (guess a salute is appropriate on July 4th)

I had the best bike ride ever today. My 2 granddaughters (about to turn 4 and 6) rode our bikes .09 miles to the pool and then 2.8 back to the car. Grandkids, bike riding and a pool. Life is great!

I got out on the local loop for a decent ride https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...51f5f054cb.jpg |
It was HOT today. Got out fairly early with my neighbor and headed up to NC to the Thermal Belt Rail Trail for some easy miles.

Yesterday's July 4th ride. Up a 4 AM to make the 6:30 start to beat the heat (in a neighboring town). This multi-club ride had good turnout for such an early start. 50k
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c23644951a.jpg I tried to look 4th-ish. Blue shorts & ½ red jersey was weak compared to some https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...152fd871a3.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5614e768fd.jpg |
Rain held off and I got twenty miles in this morning.
Cheers, Scott |
