Well, kinda, 8 miles to the LBS on lightly snowed on streets, trading in my hybrid for a Sun EZ-Sport AX (20/26in. wheel combo) and paying the balance off. then walked 2 miles to the downtown city bus terminal, got the bus towards home, then walked the 10 blocks back to the apt. from the bus stop. LBS saved me shipping costs by having it come with a "parts order" out of CA. so I should see it hopefully by next weekend or so!

Sore saddle cyclist
I've been riding the last 3 days, beautiful sunny days with temps in the low 50"s. The good weather is just in time so I can train for the Solvang Century in about a month. The next seven day's look pretty good too, only 20% chance of rain (80% chance it won't).

Trails to downtown DC still snow-covered, so I drove down to Roosevelt Island to park, then rode down to Hains Point to do laps. Slightly better than riding a trainer, but still... laps??
Saw a couple of not-shy-at-all red foxes, and entertained myself trying to decide which one of the green helicopters flying between Andrews AFB and the Whitehouse was a decoy, and which contained himself....

Yesterday's trip home from work was the first in a week to be conducted entirely on pavement. Felt strange. Hoping for some decent snow.

36 miles today once the temp. rose above freezing. The roads were bare and dry though lots of grit/debris on the shoulders. Saw the first other cyclist at about 8 miles out and then once I reached the Centennial trail near Mirabeau Point, around 11:00 am, there were lots of folks. No issues with my gear, body, or traffic. Partly sunny with no wind to speak of. Legs are tired but not sore. Excellent ride!
The engine is recharged and my wife and I are headed to the Spokane Intl. Film Fest. for a matinee and then out to dinner with friends later.

My first recumbent was an EZ Sport CX and I still use it as a cruiser.
It's fun and easy to ride and stable as a rock even at speeds well north of 35mph! My only complaint is that the seat is a tad bit higher than I would like. Perhaps I'm spoiled by Easy Racers.
I can't wait to read your ride reports and impressions of the bike!

Did my final training ride today as I prepare for my first century next Saturday in Palm Springs. My riding partner and I took it easy - 70 miles to the beach and back - on a beautiful "winter day" in LA. Temp was in upper 40s at the beginning and low 70s at the end; not much wind. Lots of cyclists on the San Gabriel River Trail and one slithery snake near the end who reared his head and stuck out his tongue. I took it as a sign that he appreciated that I didn't ride over him.

30 miles on the snow bike mostly on trails up and down the Mississippi river on a balmy day - 30 degrees...This is the warmest it's been in weeks. It will get cold again during the coming week, but we have turned the corner on winter.
30 degrees is a mixed blessing on a snow bike. In some ways 25 is better - less ice. Trails were in variable shape - some almost clear, some very icy or slushy or poor snow/ice surfaces. 30 miles feels like a long way on bad surfaces.
At one point I passed a woman going the other way - she shouted out "My first day on studded tires - they're AWESOME!" So happy about it she had to tell anybody who might know what she was talking about. Indeed - I would have fallen on my a** over and over again today were it not for the studs, that's for sure.

Yes I did ride today. I thought the freezing weather would never quit. The coldest ever on record for here. It was just barely warm enough here in the Arizona desert to ride today. 40 when I left and 61 at the warmest, about 3 PM when it started to cool agin. I didn't want to stop, and got 74 miles in. Great ride. I am just not prepared with warm clothing like you all in colder climates. The only thing that really got cold were my feet for about the first 25 miles or so.

Did 56 miles today, half with one of the local clubs. This is our last long ride before Palm Springs next Saturday. Averaged 15.6 mph including slow-downs for lights and sharp turns on a 18 mile MUP segment so I think we're good for averaging over 15 at Palm Springs. We'd like to ride more with clubs, but the start times tend to be very late (9:30 or so) so we leave early from the turnaround point and meet the club riders at their start point. Our mantra on these Centuries is "start slow"; it's so easy to get caught up in the group charge.

60 km ride today (sounds a lot farther than 37 miles, right?) Great day for riding here: sunny, temps in the mid-50s with a light breeze. Rain is back tomorrow, though. Will try to get some evening rides in this week to start boosting my weekly totals. It's nice that the days are getting longer.

23 miles today. Nice sunny day. Mid 50s. Pushed it harder than most rides lately.

My regular winter Sunday club ride. Warmer temperatures (28°F) brought out a few riders who have been inside for the season. Are they a harbinger of spring? But a few of them are out of shape and not used to riding on winter surfaces, so it was even slower than usual. Still, I loved being out and riding and it was pretty mild - 20 degrees warmer than I"m used to and 30 degrees warmer than the coldest ride of the year.
Including riding to the start point, a mere 27 miles.

Don't mince words
Saturday: Cgallgh & I rode with a couple just shy of qualifying for this forum. We left at noon; winds were blowing 15-25 with gusts to 40. Looking at my Garmin data I can definitely tell which legs were downwind. We racked up 47 miles, 1969' of altitude, over 3:25 hrs. The entire 17 miles home were into a brutal headwind; what a slog. Hot shower & compression tights eased the pain, but still...that was a hard ride.

We were fortunate on Saturday to start at 0700, but the group we met in San Jose for a south bound ride had a similar slog north bound - they elected to ride on a somewhat sheltered MUP even though it was 5 miles longer. I'll take a steady wind any time over gusts. When it's windy like that I want to put my Garmin out of sight. You had a character-building ride.

Got in 64 miles on Saturday (it was 33 when I left home, about 60 when I got back). 28 on Sunday, and the temps were much milder, 50-59.

Saturday was rainy. I rode anyway. I rode down the hill to the church where they were holding a blood drive. The staff there said I couldn't donate, since you're not supposed to do vigorous exercise after donation. I convinced them to let me. I do it all the time without any ill effects. Then I rode to the bank and then to the pharmacy. Six miles, total.
Yesterday was sunny. I was going to take a ride with a friend. We're 20 miles apart, and we were going to meet in the middle.
It took me too long to get ready, and I had other things to do, so we postponed it. But I had spent time adjusting my front brake. I see why people complain about cantilevers. It takes time to get them just right. So I took a test ride, about 1.5 miles. I rode like a bat out of hell to compensate for the lack of time.

Finally got out yesterday, for the first time in almost 2 weeks. Did a nice 45 mile jaunt with the missus & three friends. Almost got hit by a bus.
And then this morning I rode to work. Two days in a row! I've ridden more in the past 36 hours than I have in the previous 3 weeks combined.
