24.3 miles, pushing myself moderately hard, on the old Trek road bike. Average speed was 15.7 (a good number for me at this stage of my life).

Picked up some butterscotch pudding mixes on the drive home from work on instruction of my pie-making spouse. Delivered the pudding and was asked why I got sugar-free pudding!
So, we rode the tandem to the Kroger a mile from home and she went in to get the real deal while I stayed with the Screamer. She came out with two boxes of Instant Pudding. Yuck! we both said. Back into the store for "Cook and Serve" Pudding. Then, we took the long way home and got in about 7 miles before dinner. She made crust from scratch - the pie is now cooling/firming up. I'm sure it will be Yummy.

Rode 32 miles, mostly in the rain. I rode my 2005 Specialized Allez Sport with rear rack and fenders. I thought I would ride my comuter bike in case it rained. Truned out after mile 2 or so, that's all it did. At times it poured. I was dressed appropriately so I stayed warm just very wet.

Down hills a couple time over 30 mph were a bit nerve racking but I played it safe. We had one pace line incident where some one hit the brakes unexpectantly and we nearly had a pile up. I managed to control a slight skid and decided to bail off road and took the packed sand on the shoulder and back on the road once it was safe.

Enjoyed the ride. The LBS rides at a faster pace on Monday which I like so I will keep on returning. They ride all summer except for lightening. I'll be there Mondays as often as possible.

41 miles on my regular Tuesday night hill climbing club ride (33 miles club ride, 8 too and from ride terminus). Was 0.5 MPH slower than last week, but I'm not sure why as I rode pretty hard. I'm still much slower on the hills than I want to be, but I know they are good for me.

24 mile solo ride over a rolling course w/ ~1,800' elevation gain...first day of the year it was warm enough to ride sans base layer!

It's been a long hard winter and I started to doubt I would ever get back in shape. However spring is good and today I felt really good and strong riding 30 miles, a lot of it through the forest, on my way from work. The last three weekends I have done the 300, 200 and on saturday the 400k brevet for PBP. That probably has a lot to do with how I felt today. The weekend after next we are riding the 600k, I hope the weather will be OK.

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and took the Seminole Wekiva Trail to Panera Bread for breakfast. The temp was already in the low 90s when we got back. Rode to a couple of bike shops to look at some helmets. I broke mine last Sunday when my bike fell over and cracked it in several places. David’s World Cycle gave me a good discount on a Bontrager Phase which seems to be a good helmet. If the weather holds I could have a 1,000 mile month which would exceed last month’s record of 965 miles.

Statistics for: 05/25/2011
Miles today: 35+
Mileage this month May: 802+
Mileage this year: 3772+ (over half way to my goal)
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 53%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +6
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +978 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 39+
Average miles per ride this month: 44+
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3227, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach.

Tomorrow will be a long ride….

Today was the real first day of summer where the temp was into the 80s F and just warm enough to break a sweat and the sky was blue with nice puffy white clouds. I rode in my fovorite area on the shore of the Sakonnet river in Rhode Island. For some reason there is a pocket of rural America with little traffic. Remember that this is the corridor between Washington, New York and Boston where a large proportion of Americans live.

In the past week there has been an abundance of rain but today dawned perfect. In fact, a lovely young woman was walking her dog on one of the beaches. The surf, the sun, the beach, the clouds, the girl; it was all just perfect and I knew instantly it was going to be an ideal day and that is how it turned out.

With a few days off from riding I thought I'd be weak and slow so I brought the camera with the idea it would be day of appreciation. While the day was, in fact pleasant, surprisingly, I felt quite strong all day and actually found myself cruising at 20 MPH and slightly over. This is unprecedented for me and I attribute this level of cycling strength to the sight of that lovely young woman who evidently kicked up the testosterone level. As I've said, a perfect day.

I do so solemnly swear that I'll post photos one day. It's really pretty around here.

Good ride this evening, I went for 40 miles. Weather was great so I took to the road. For the first 25+ miles I averaged 19.7 mph. I was pushing myself to improve on overall riding. I finished the overall ride at 18.52 mph. 1397' of climbing. Relatively level course but as you travel north you are climbing, sort of a false flat. Avg HR was 150 with the Max hitting 167. Resulted in 1721 cal burnt.

I'm working to bump up from the second group of riders for the Monday night LBS rides to the starting group. Hopefully I can make the move in a couple weeks.

51 wonderful miles today here in SoCal. Cloudless, 74 degrees with 6 to 10 mph headwind. Had a nice shredded beef taco and coke at the turn around point. Lots of people out on the trail. Had a nice prime Ribeye from Costco with salad and an excellent Cabernet. Life is good. Ride on.

Commuted to work today. Should wind up with 22 miles round trip when I get home tonight, although I may kill some time after work & do a few laps around Central Park, so maybe I'll get ~30 miles.

And now that the warm weather is finally here, it was quite an ordeal getting to work without breaking a sweat. (No shower facilities at the office, so I have to keep my coworkers' comfort in mind during my inbound ride!) Made all the more difficult by the incessant challenges of CAT6 Racers on the bike path this morning.

Tomorrow I head up to the Berkshires for four days of beautiful rural cycling!

Yes. My first ride since before the internet or cell phones. Only approx. 7 miles, but no problems. I had worked hard this spring rebuilding my 1989 Bridgestone Comp MB2. I also have a Trek 420 touring bike and a Trek 930 Single Track. The MB2 now has new rims and smaller, smoother tires. If I want to get dirty, the Trek 930 is available. The MB2 was already adjusted on several 'around the block' rides so all I had to do was pump up the tires a little and take off. It's cool to be retired and not have to try to ride before or after work - just cruise around and see what's happening. I'll be confining my rides to one hour/10 miles until I can get used to things again. I have new cycling shoes and shorts too, so it's pretty amazing that I just basically had no problems of any kind. My legs were a little 'rubbery' when I got home, and my neck is sore from holding my head up, but these things will pass.
I had a little health screening the other week and everything was really good except the cholesterol was fairly high. I'm thinking the bike and a better diet will take care of it. Not bad for a 66 yr old. Back to the legs - I really need them because I'm still playing music in a pro band. I haven't had any leg/knee problems on these long, stand-up gigs, and the bike will definitely help me keep going with that, not to mention aerobic capacity.
So, yes, I rode today, and I hope to ride every day. Hope you do too.

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and met Jim and Dick at the trail head. We took the Seminole Wekiva Trail to Panera Bread for breakfast as usual. From there we went north through Heathrow and Sylvan Lake Reserve. From there we turned west to the northern trail head for another break. On the return trip we made a 6 mile loop through Wingfield Reserve. The temp was already in the low 90s when we got back. If the weather holds I could have a 1,000 mile month which would exceed last month’s record of 965 miles.

Statistics for: 05/26/2011
Miles today: 52+
Mileage this month May: 854+
Mileage this year: 3825+ (54 % of my 2011 goal)
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +6
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1000 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 39.8+
Average miles per ride this month: 44.9+
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3174, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach.

Tomorrow will be a bike cleaning day….

I had to get on the bike today. I didn't have high expectations because I still have this darn cold. However, I ran seven miles yesterday and felt pretty good. So, today, what the hey - off I went. 24.7 miles, I took it gingerly at first, no climbing to speak of, and as the ride progressed I felt stronger and stronger. It is a beautiful day here, and that may have played a role! Anyway, I had a really good ride, and the power that I couldn't find two days ago was back. Whew!!!

Did 13 miles over a mostly flat course. There are a few hills, though - and for the first time since my knee injury, I was able to get up out of my saddle and really pound on the peddles to get up the hill. Felt good

Did 15 miles with a friend. It's been tough getting started this year. Frequent and foul weather have conspired to make for inconsistent riding.

Rode from Tiverton, Rhode Island to Dartmouth in Mass in a big loop for 48 miles. Nicely warm with temps in high 70's F to mid 80's. This is my max distance this year and fell a bit cooked but it is part of the master plan for this year. It is my hope to be in good enough physical condition to ride a club century in September. There exists a schedule for this goal: 50 miles by the end of May, 60 miles during June, 75 in July, 90 in August with the big blowout in Sept.

Stopped at Gray's Icecream Store In Tivertons 4 Corners and asked the girl to serve it up in a syringe so as to inject it directly into the blood stream for fast recovery. Y'll can keep your jells. I'll go with natural products.

41 miles, sunny, 78 degrees with 5 to 10 mph winds. Had a great ride, chatted with a fellow on his trike at a rest stop. He told me he had to get a trike as his balance is not what it used to be. He did look nice and comfy on it. When i am unable to ride my road bike anymore then it will be the time for a trike.

Did a double up today. Motorcycle and bicycle. Rode my Centurion Ironman for about 15 miles, sweet ride. The vintage bikes IMO, always steal the show.

23+ miles today, focused on climbing, did ~1500' of climbing. Rode up a 9% grade twice and several 6%-8% hills. It was 90F today after 3pm so the heat made for a good push, lots of drinking.

Get this, I'm less than 2 miles from home on a downhill that is posted 30 MPH and I'm doing 33.37 MPH. I had signaled a left hand turn about 150' from the turn and a jackwad flys by me on the left rather than allow me to make my turn safely. And the moron had a bike in the back of his pick-up. The ememy lives amonst us!

After I mad my turn the guy behind him in a covertible pulls along side me and said "its amazing how people are so impatient".

Ride safe, the act of getting exercise and hurt you in a bad way.
