7 hot, humid miles on some local roads I hadn't tried. Thanks to the cute little church on the hill, I had an ungodly amount of traffic, so instead of going to the bridge as I'd planned, I turned onto a tar and chip road and found myself wallowing in chips. Ugh! Home for a quick lunch and shower, then off to work. Tomorrow's another day.

Did a lot of driving to rides this weekend, from Maryland all the way out to the Shenandoah Valley.
Saturday was the Bay Country Century, more or less flat but a few rollers tossed in: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/111563730 Sunday was the Tour de Valley in Waynesboro VA. Beeeeautiful ride. Got a little bit soaked in a thunderstorm, but was dry at the finish, and had fun riding with a couple of other 50+ forum members: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/111943287 |
Just got back from a 32 mile training ride for my wife for the upcoming charity ride she has entered. It's a 50 K ride for her and this is her very first time doing one so we are getting her ready. She can do the distance, next we will work on a little bit of technique to keep her from wearing herself out.

44 @ 15.7 today on a special club ride in the west Valley. Nice ride, but a bit humid. Although the temp was 92 when we started at 6:15, it was still only 94 at 10:00.

I rode 49.47 miles from my house to the coast for the annual Labor Day family picnic.

A really fun ride with the wife on the tandem today! Nice, Sunny, well below the 90+, we've had most of the summer and NO thunderstorms, YEA!! The tandem is starting to feel "normal" and not like riding a truck, that's a good thing. The best is being able to "talk" to each other without having to YELL all the time. 22 miles.

Today was 50 miles with a brutal, brutal 16-20 mph wind, gusting to 25. I'd planned to do a metric, but just had no gas left. Plus it was cold: 58 to about 63 tops, when it was 100 here 3 days ago.
|
100% humidity. The brake levers were wet when I touched them. But not raining. Wet 40 miles.
|
20 mile tandem ride today in dry, 60's, windy conditions. (The tailwind section was nice.) We rode 47 miles on Saturday when it was almost 100F, as mentioned by CraigB. What a difference!

I did a very nice 16 mile ride today. http://retrocycler.blogspot.com/2011...llic-ride.html

Here's something you don't see every day. A turkey vulture sitting on a dead tree, waiting for something to die. Seen along a dirt service road in Arizona.

11.88 miles half of it in a brutal headwind. I don't like headwinds.

23.1 miles - perfect weather / temps. best ride in a loooonnnnnggg time.

8 miles this evening. Temp in the upper 60's. Can't complain about 'cool' if I am comfortable in shorts and no gloves.
|
Did a 30 mile ride on the bike path in Redondo Beach to Culver City in 85 degree weather today. I remembered to drink plenty of water today because the last time I kinda got dizy and my calves cramped since I didn't drink enough water.

Saturday was a quick 50-miler. Really stress free riding - no car a/hole issues, only a slight headwind, no bike issues. Sunday, I did a little cable work in preparation for next weekend.
When the alarm went off at 0430 this morning, I really wanted to simply roll over and go back to sleep. My first ever brevet is on Saturday and I wanted a simple, steady ride this morning to make sure I didn't goof up yesterday's cable work so I reluctantly pushed myself out of bed. I was on the road by 0445 and got 15 miles done. Nice and cool out - relatively speaking - with only the odd car or three and two rabbits to keep me company. The bike was flawless too. |
Went for a 10 km. ride in a park outside a nearby town. The trails were about half double-track and half single. Temp was right at seventy degrees when I started at 9AM, and only about 85 when I got back to the parking lot, a far cry from recent temps in Central Texas. Perfect kind of trails for my new 29er. Picked up six geocaches along the way.

Nope, not today.
|
19.3 miles today; getting a little smoke up this way from the texas fires. may stay indoors tomorrow.

24 mile club ride. The group keeps growing with two new riders making it 10 of us today. Temperature was even lower than forecast @ 70F with overcast skies and no wind. Quite different from the recent 95+ days.

Yeah, I rode but it was 100 degrees out. Still, if you're headed to the beach it's always rewarding. Tail wind on the way home was kind of nice, too.

After doing back-to-back century rides last weekend, today will make 4 days in a row without riding (because of the rain.) I may not get a ride in tomorrow either, before another century ride I have scheduled for Saturday. I feel like a slug. This will either be an interesting experiment in riding on "fresh" legs, or it will be a horrible disaster which will leave me writhing in a ditch somewhere.

Up every morning just before the crack of dawn for my early morning neighborhood to neighborhood jaunt, pausing for my constitutional break out on local piers, taking in the salty refreshing early morning breezes. A couple of hours before dusk, I generally follow the same routine through a good measure of nightfall (my bike is light/night equipped). Whatever additional cycling I do or don't attend to on any given day, I still usually manage to keep these habitual appointments with my bikes (weather & unforeseen circumstances permitting)..... starts & ends my days with reliably good vibes physically & spiritually.

I decided to leave my rain gear in the saddlebag because it was warm and the rain was mostly mist. Got a great view of a Great Blue Heron fishing in Four Mile Run, a stream much swollen by the recent rains.
