72º here today! I got in one hour zone 2-3 climb on the BRP. I had 2000' of elevation gain. Beautiful day for a ride.

The city of Ft Myers, FL is trying to promote riding bikes to Red Sox spring training games. They have a web site with routes in to the park from free parking lots and a secure storage for 300 bikes at the park. I took a ride in today to check it out. Rode about ten miles each way from a LBS parking lot. Pretty nice feature. Saves some traffic and parking fees.

23 miles. I started my ride around sunrise but had to go back in and change out of my long sleeve jersey into my short sleeve warm weather jersey. Not as fast as yesterday, but the winds were up to 17~22 mph.

Thanks! Everything turned out fine. The surgery took less time than the pre-op preparation. This was my first cataract surgery, so I was a little apprehensive before getting it done. It turned out to be a piece of cake. I went for the followup visit with the opthamologist this morning and everything is perfect as far as the surgery goes. However, I was told that I can't drive a car or ride a bike until Monday to give the swelling a change to go down and the incision a change to heal. What driving or riding a bike has to do with the swelling, is beyond me. The vision improvement was so drastic that I almost don't need the glasses on the right eye anymore, except to read. Still have a very slight haze when looking out that eye, but the doc says that will go away in a day or two. Can't wait until Monday to get back on the bike again.

No biking, went snowblowing instead!

11 miles this morning through this:

28 miles today in the mid/upper 50s F. Filtered sun through a high cirrus layer when I started, but by the end it was completely overcast (with smoke from a nearby controlled forest burn). No wind to start, but a little by the time I was done. This was the first ride I've been able to do in 28 days. I've been busy, oncall and it's rained cats and dogs on two Saturdays. Still, it's a new bike I want to ride, dadgummit! :) I guess that's what I get for exercising N+1 during short winter days.

Wife and I did 28 miles on the tandem, 3800' of climbing. Yes, 3800'. Most of the climbing is in a 10 mile stretch up a dead-end road (state park at the top). some of the climbing, maybe 700' occurs on the way down since there are some "ups". Many singles out doing this climb today, temps started at 50, probably 60 at the finish. Something like this on the tandem for us seniors gives new meaning to the phrase "character building".

We do the Tierra Bella ride every year, but skip this climb. Wonder why?

Phil85207 02-25-12 07:03 PM

I did just over 70 miles with the temps in the 80's. The wind was a little bother but outside of that a perfect ride.

My sweetie and I did 50.9 miles on the tandem today. Full length and back of the Cape Code Rail Trail and part of the Old Colony Rail Trail. Temps in the high 30's, low 40's, ending at 41F. Got hit by a snow squall at the end. WINDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Fantastic-congrats!

And, back on topic, 51 miles. Nice temps, seemed windy.

13 miles late this afternoon. Low 30's but again dry and some sunshine, too.

Gravity Aided 02-26-12 06:00 AM

Because you are a certified animal: think about joining the BF 50 plusser club at Strava. We're slowly becoming one of the larger clubs there, and its cool to see what the brothers (and sister) are doing out there on the road. The top secret code is 1952. Now you must destroy your computer screen.

Bikey Mikey 02-26-12 09:47 AM

23 1/2 miles today. Started out at 29° and ended at 40°(but with a windchill of 36°). The wind just kept changing direction so I hit some type of headwind 80% of the ride.

plodderslusk 02-26-12 09:51 AM

Late winter is a good time for some challenging rides on icy roads and on hard groomed skitracks. I won,t miss my frigid toes when spring comes though.

Finally a ride to report
today 31 miles averaged 9.3 mph temp started at about 41 by the end it was 55 degrees. i had a head wind on an out and back. Yes! The head wind was on the way back.

jimmuller 02-26-12 02:30 PM

We managed another 24.25 miles on the tandem today. Temps in the upper 30's. Yeah, it was cold. The wind wasn't as fierce as yesterday but for one stretch going past an open field of farmland we were barely maintaining 10mph in a 42/28 gear combination on flat road. Spent most of today's ride exploring tiny, out of the way roads.

avmech 02-26-12 02:35 PM

14.3 miles with a 20+ headwind about 3/4 of the way. Good ride though

10 miles well spent!

BikeWNC 02-26-12 03:22 PM

40 miles today from town to Waterrock Knob the mountain behind my house. 3:13 riding with 4000' of elevation gain. Basically 20 miles up and then 20 miles down. Pretty day though a bit cool on the long descent, especially at speeds over 40mph.

Dudelsack 02-26-12 03:41 PM

Edison got around. I'm about an hours ride to the Edison House in downtown Louisville.

Anyway, nice day for a ride:
http://app.strava.com/rides/4545998

I just didn't have it in the legs today. A bit depressing. I stalled out on a very steep hill and I can still feel it.

I also had an enlightened discussion with an elderly citizen who felt the need to point out that I was a criminal for rolling through a stop sign at 4 MPH. As we parted, he called me a self-righteous recumbent rider!

He sure has me pegged :)
