Really, really nice bike, even if they did put the shift levers in the wrong place. :)

Failed ride. Started in Front Royal, VA on the Skyline Drive, intending to go about 25 miles and then turn around to go back to my starting point. But ran into dense fog after about 10 miles and gave up and went back to my car. My Garmin GPS says I had 2,800 feet in elevation gain over the 23 miles I rode, but I want to come back next week and do the ride I intended to do.
Too bad you didn't make it up over Hogback (twice if you turn around at Elk Wallow.) A nice loop I like to do so I don't end up doing the out-and-back, is: Front Royal to 211 East to Sperryville (fantastic descent!) 211 to Little Washington (4-lane road, but safe with good shoulders.) Fodderstack Rd to Flint Hills on 522, and then back to FR Better luck this week! |

You'll love it, gevad. The north section is one of the best parts of Skyline Drive (and the hilliest I believe.)

Thanks for the suggested circuit ride. Although my little mind can tolerate a lot of out-and-back rides, it's nice to know about the loop alternatives, especially the ones with decent shoulders. Those country roads with no shoulders can be scary! Dave |
Well, what was supposed to be a leisurely 20 miles to keep the muscles loose turned into a 30 miler--still kept it easy pedaling and pace. I was having some shifting issues and went to the LBS, several adjustments and test rides and then a cable replacement and more test rides and adjustments, I think it's dialed in...Oh, and no charge from the LBS, for yesterday and today. I gave the wrench a tip yesterday for fitting me in.
So, 30 miles today. 100 miles coming tomorrow. |
Can't ride today. Can't go out of the house. We're stuck here until they say otherwise.
|
You can go outside now Jim, glad things came out for the best and you are safe now. God Bless Boston and the people there.

50 miles with a group of 15 vintage bike owners. Snow covered the grass and 30f weather started the day, but the weather improved to 45f.

21 urban bike path miles today. Overcast and 61° E Wind 14 mph. It felt a lot cooler than the actual temp. For some reason there were a lot of groups of gawkers who had to be encouraged to unblock the bike path so I could get by.

The bike with the compact crank and 11/28 cassette is in the shop, so I rode my "flat-land" bike on some pretty roads around Williamsburg, VA, and across the river into Surry County. Taking the ferry was lots of fun. Met some old guys with their adult children on the ferry ride back. They were pretty amazed how skinny my tires were, and thought my bike computer was the coolest thing ever ;)
103 miles, 60 around Williamsburg, and 40 or so in Surry County. I miss my hills, but this was a nice change of pace: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/300734189 |
Yesterday, 4/20/13, I did 103 miles for the Tour de Cure:Hampton Roads in Suffolk, VA.

125 miles for the weekend and the MS 150 Citrus Tour. The return of my right knee pain, caused from climbing 30+ miles of rollers with brutal headwinds, caused me to stop 25 miles shy of my century, on Saturday. It's too bad, too, because at the 75 mile mark, nothing else was bothering me except the knee. It would have been a very nice century ride, if not for the knee. Completed the 50 mile return trip today with the knee waiting until the last 14 miles of the ride before it started giving me any issues. All in all, a great two days of riding.

Twenty miles all by myself yesterday. After recent rains, not sure that I have seen the White River higher than it was under the Southport Road bridge.
Twenty-five miles on a club ride today. Very flat - got onto the little ring once. (Note: Not the bridge over White River.) http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_1410.jpg |
20 miles on the local urban bike path. Sunny skies 68° S Wind 16 Gusts 26 mph. Was hoping to get in some good miles this week since I am on vacation but it looks like snow and rain will have something else to say about the plan.

10 miles into town to the hardware store and return.

38 spectacular miles on a club ride with an old friend and two new ones. We went through 3 counties, gorgeous countryside, lovely quiet roads...and had a blast. :)

Sunny day, light breeze (but somehow always a headwind), low 50s. 11.05 miles on the local MUP. Gradually increasing my miles. Wish it would warm up slightly.. but still was a nice day to be alive and on the bike.

No ride today, resting the knee after this weekend's ride.
So I'm sitting here getting rid of some of the stuff that I put together for the MS 150 I did this weekend. My mileage for Saturday, according to my GPS app on my iPhone, was 68.23 miles while the mileage on my Cateye cyclometer was 74.48 miles. I used the mileage from the Cateye as my official distance since it's more accurate but today, I looked at the mileage on the ride cue sheet from the start of the ride to the SAG stop where I SAG'd and it shows 80.3 miles. Go figure! I'll stay with the 74.48 as the official mileage. |
24 miles under overcast threatening & windy skies. 61° S Wind 29 Gusts 38 mph. Rode the first half with a tailwind and thought at the far point that the wind was going to change and I would get a tailwind both directions. All I got out of the deal was a few drops of rain and an upwind slog back to the truck. Oh well!
Right now we are getting sleet and rain. |
Just the commute. 25.75 miles on my '73 Raleigh Gran Sport. The ride back to the train station this afternoon was brutal, temps in the mid-40's with a strong headwind.
|
Only 11.5 miles this AM--52ºF, windy, and drizzling. It started drizzling around 4 miles and I didn't have any rain gear, so I bailed when I was near my house.
