I'm a Colango kind of guy, but that's another story!
A nice 35 miles at the MUP today. Looks like we are in for a hot and humid summer if summer is anything like it was today.

Nursed my bike to the Community Bike Shop today which included getting a puncture about 3/4 of a mile away from it. (Problem: Split rim on rear wheel
I thought that since I would be taking the wheel off anyway at the Shop, there was no point stopping and installing a new tube so walked it the rest of the way.
When I got there the guy running it said he had no wheels in right now so I said could I borrow one of yours and leave mine with you until the wheel comes in which he said was fine.
In order to be able to ride it there I had to remove the left hand brake pad so the split wouldnt keep knocking on it and getting bigger but I dont know if the flat was a result of that or something getting into the tube.
He picked me a Universal Fusion MTB out which is in ok condition but the gears slip and the gears arent as sophisticated as mine.. I miss it already
He said he would look over my bike completely and I will go back next week to pick it up.
The loan bike is lighter than mine and reasonably quick so I got home in about the same time
Weather cloudy about 14 C and humid with the occasional cool breeze making sure I had a fleece on.

Ah ... nothing like riding to work on a quintessential LA morning. Surf. Sand. Palm trees.

Spotted no dead bodies on my 20-mile ride after work today.
Had a bit of a tailwind on a long, smooth stretch of country road that has a very slight downhill lean. Was able to stay in the mid-20's for what seemed like a very long time.

Got in another hot and humid 35 mile daily ride today. I did see a dead body on today's ride. An armadillo that was removed from it's shell and being devoured by a bunch of vultures. The shell was about three feet away from the carcass.

I've been loath to do any more kvetching about the weather, since I whined all spring, but yesterday was the first weekday over 80 and without rain so far this year. Cold and wet has pretty much been the rule throughout all of May and June.
Almost didn't make it out last night as the wife was almost two hours late getting home from work (I can't wait until she retires out of that snake pit...), and she wanted to go with me.
We managed to get in a quick 13 miles on an out-and-back through a local park (Edward Hines Drive for you locals). Actually, Marcy probably did half of that as I can't pedal along at 7-8 mph for very long, so I'd get ahead of her on the shoulder of the road (Hines Drive has beautiful wide paved shoulders) while she stayed on the MUP, then I'd loop back and kept repeating the process until we got back to where I'd parked. It was gloomy and overcast, but I worked up the first good sweat of the year as it was in the low 80's and humid. Felt good.
No dead bodies to be seen anywhere on the route.

Woke up a tad early, 0340 instead of 0400, and put in 45 miles this AM. Now that Schools will be out for the Summer, I can sleep in late, 0500. Still want to beat the heat for my rides.

17 miles today. After four months of not giving me a problem, the left knee started bothering me during the ride today. Decided not to push it and quit after the first lap. Nursing it right now so that it will hopefully be OK for tomorrow's scheduled 55 mile ride with my riding buddy.

10 miles this evening after work. Windy but that was a good thing for about half the ride.

Only 14 miles of a planned 35 this AM. We had some nasty winds and a front race through here yesterday. I lost power around 1700 yesterday, Thursday. On this AM's ride there were some ominous clouds rolling in and I didn't access to weather forecasts. Decided to bail at 14 miles instead of chancing it.

The Southeast had a "cold front" pass through yesterday, after a few days of 95°+ and 90% humidity when I rode it was 88°-91° and low, for here humidity. The heat index the first part of the week were 10°-15° additional, today it was negligible. With the north breezes I was really comfortable for the entire ride. This too shall pass, I give it maybe a day more and its back to 90/90 plus. its all good though, work load is more, just being careful with hydration.

Got in a 20-miler after work, and managed a "personal best" of a 14.4 mph avg over a route with a lot of rolling hills. I'm working up to my first metric in 10 days, and weather and work have only allowed me two 40-milers and one 14-miler in the last two weeks, so I'm feeling pretty good about today!
I hope to get in a 40-miler early on Dad's day, as they're forecasting thunderstorms later in the day...
