The mud and sand were caked to my lower legs at the end of the race, I peeled it off when it dried.

These images were early in the race. The first time "off the cliff" produced a pucker factor of around 9. It kept getting muddier as the race progressed. They made a "maze of mud" on a baseball infield that took about 1.5 minutes to get through. The slimy, slippery quicksand was the hardest thing I've ever done on a bike x 5 laps through.
I'd've hosed you and the bike off on the driveway, and made you strip in the garage. Having dirt in the washing macine=big no-no. But good effort and way to finish, AJ. I'm impressed.

yeah yeah I know 34 degrees is nothing to worry about...

but... in Hot'Lanta that constitutes cold.

ride was pretty good. dressed just right. I will say all the extra layers really slowed me down. added at least 2-3 minutes to the ride just for the extra windage? hmmm.... and not to mention the extra time getting dressed.

15 miles in the cold damp air. Well, cold for So Cal 52° and foggy. One of those mornings where I just wasn't feeling it, but did it anyway...another ride in the book.

Yes finally after 6 days of rain and wet cold weather.
Felt good too. 28 miles in low 50 degree temps. I wore knee & arm warmers and think I need to start looking at some sort of shoe/toe cover, toes got cold.
I missed not riding those 6 days.

20 miles this afternoon after being off the bike since Wednesday last week due to rain. I avoided riding yesterday despite the very nice weather expecting daughter to call at anytime to get picked up at the train station. She did call but it was almost 6:00 PM with just minutes of daylight remaining stating she wasn't coming home to pick up her car. A whole day wasted when I could have put few miles riding.

20 mile loop after work tonight. A bit windy but the cool weather was nice. I wore an under armor shirt under my jersey for the first time this fall.

Pretty impressive Fred. What kind of tires are you running now. I put some Serfas tires and the new bike and I got caught in that bad storm last week and they did real good.

That Lance Armstrong movie is showing Thursday at the shows near us and it's $12.50 to get in. I think it's going to be shown in the whole Houston area, Thursday. I don't know about other places in the country.

We left this morning in a light rain, which became heavier. We shortened the planned 50 to 30. I had a brand new REI waterproof rain jacket to try out. It worked great. Here we are holed up at a fire station while Bob fixes a flat (on the right) and it rains real hard. Yes, I cleaned my bike when I got home, so GET OFF MY BACK!!!

14,000 miles?! I never drove any of my motor vehicles that many miles in a year, much less a bike. Today is the 293rd day of the year, that's an average of over 47 miles a day, every day.

Last night I was looking forward to my usual 40 mile AM solo. Weather was for 65+ deg at sunrise and only a 20% chance of rain. Got up at 6:10, and left the house at 6:40. Was greeted by a light rain. Threw the bike into the van and rode up to the coffee place. It was empty. Went back home and made a cup of coffee and dozed off for an hour.

Woke up ready to go. Went out to get the bike out of the van and was greeted by another shower. Went inside and checked the weather radar. Showers were moving in off the ocean in a long line right over my house.

Went back inside and waited out the showers. By now I'm not really in the mood and I don't really have the time for the 40 miles, so I decide to ride to the gym.

So I managed to ride a splashy 4 miles, but got in a nice 1.5 hr workout in the gym.

Allegheny Jet, I didn't mean to infer that I didn't know what CX was, though the wording does sound like that. I confess, I have been surfing the CX "porn" videos, lusting over what looks like incredible fun.

No, what I don't understand is why at almost age 62 I have the desire to do this.

Bikes: 1982 Raleigh road bike & love it

Tuesday 10/20/09... Been off the bike since Tuesday 10/13 due to an unplanned trip to the hospital. Got released at 7 PM yesterday so I did a slow 20.5 mile flat, ride with my daughter today. Weather was just outstanding. After being in isolation for 5 days getting outside felt great. Hope to get back to my 30 mile per ride tomorrow. Mileage and ride days will be a little low this month... Oh well it is what it is.......

All is well in Slo Spoke Jim's world.

20.51 (s)miles tonight
295.44 (s)miles this month
5495.07 (s)miles this year
8 ride days this month (Oct.)

Between the Columbus Day weekend and a week spent in meetings in Virginia Beach, yesterday was my first day on a bike in ten days. It was a great trip to work and back.

I took my bike to work this morning and rode it home this evening. 15 miles straight into a serious headwind. With my truck now at the "other end" I am committed to getting up at 0500 tomorrow morning and ride back to my truck. I like the commute but I hate getting up that early.

Bikes: confidential infromation that I don't even share with my wife

Met up with a racing buddy to do a hard workout. Ended up with 38 miles with seven 1+ mile hills @ Z4/5. Recovery was backing off to high Z3. Getting ready to suffer on Hermes and Velo Diva's hill climb race on Sat. Anyone know how to lose 20 lbs in 4 days? I read 4 Bicycling magazines that each said "lose 5 lbs now" on the cover, collectively not much help there.
