It's funny you should mention mountain lions. I've been reading a book called Cycling, Philosophy For Everyone, one of a series covering many different subjects. (I'm not a philosopher but I do consider myself a cyclist.) Each major section begins with a real-life story by one of the editors, of the kind of story that makes one think.

The story I just read is about an episode where the author of that story and his daughter are on mtbs, riding some wild country in California (I think it must be). As they top a ridge they are confronted by a cougar. It is a moving and frightening incident. The cougar decides they aren't the least bit noteworthy, and so moves on. You come to know your values better after an event like that.

Had a nice afternoon ride today, looked like the thunderstorms were headed in but they stayed to the east, thankfully. The clouds and the easterly wind kept the temperature around 85°F so it was very comfortable. Glad I rode as it is supposed to be a wet 4th here, a low is coming in off the Gulf so it will be wet rides, between showers probably. I managed to shave 2 minutes off the time for today's route. Any ride is a great one.

Rode 12-13 easy miles. Resting up for Saturday's 100K. I really wish I was in shape to do the century: 6000' of climbing wouldn't be too bad, but it promises to be a bit warm and I'm still finding issues with my saddle-to-butt interface.

Finally, FINALLY! After 11 days of not riding I did 26 miles this AM. I felt like I could've done 40, but didn't want to push since I'd been off the bike 1½ weeks. I'll see how I am tomorrow and may do 35 or more.

Red, White & Boom in downtown Columbus. 25 miles or so. Fire works were great. More and more bikes at the event every year.

Nice looking Centurion Jim, how's it ride?

I had a nice ride this afternoon, the storms hit us late last night and very early this morning so it was dry and cool for our area. The south wind was stiff but, overall it was a really nice ride day.

Thank you. From just a very short ride I can't say too much, but it seemed very, very nice. It feels big but handles small, if you know what I mean. Like my Masi it seems to know exactly how much I want to corner and does exactly that, no more, no less. I have a bit of work still to do still. But as for appearance, it has been rode hard and put away wet, so to speak. The drive-side chain stay is pocked with shark-tooth marks, the TT has a small dent, and much paint has been work away on fork and stays. Nevertheless, it's someone's old warhorse that still wants to run.

Had a near-perfect ride on the 4th of July: 107 miles, 9.8K of climbing, on some fabulous roads.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/337586212

I started at the entrance to Skyline Drive at Shenandoah NP, but headed back east going through Flint Hill, Orlean, Amissville, Boston, Sperryville, and finally back the last 30x miles on Skyine Drive to the start point. The weather was just interesting enough, but not too interesting. I got showered on a couple of times on the climb up from Sperryville into SNP, and also on the uphill on Hogback, but never got completely soaked, so it was refreshing but not dangerous or unpleasant.

Twisty 7 miles into wind to grocery store then 5 miles straight back home with wind at my back. Ahhhhh, that's the life.

35 miles for yesterday and hoping to get in a 44 mile ride today. Got in 22 hot and very, very humid miles with some brutal winds. Skies didn't look very good after the first lap, so I opted to call it quits for the day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better morning for my 44 mile ride.

Counting Red, White and Boom ride, three days three rides.
Tuesday with nephew (37) who just got into road riding, 27 miles. He just picked up a complete road set-up off his local Clist, Felt F3 with pedals, shoes that fit him, computer and saddle bag with tool, $1100!
Boom ride with my son, 25 miles.
And my least favorite type of ride, rain ride on July 4th. Did not start out with rain but was thoroughly soaked by the time we finished at 28 miles. Last one was with son and nephew.

Got a ride in before the afternoon thunder storms came in, not much to most of you but 12.5 mph avg. is very good for me! Most of the time I'm around 10.5 to 11 mph, usually my arthritis's really start beating up on my on the return home but today, I had enough "gas in the tank" to actually pace a fellow rider till I had to turn off!

Rare Friday ride in a light mist that was rather pleasant. Stats aren't very interesting but are up at Strava.

Pleasant route except for 3/4 mile of road that goes by a Walmart Supercenter and industrial storefront. Right in front of the Walmart, a truck had managed to rip the entire bumper off a sedan. No injuries but I can't imagine it did the sedan any favors. I thought about snapping a photo but thought it was best to mind my own beeswax.

The morale is this: driving cars is dangerous.
