We tend to try to avoid riding in our mid day heat. It has been getting up to 85F and we consider that too hot to ride in....seriously, we do. We wait till evening when it gets that hot during the day.
Waiting between thunderstorms...hah! That's quite something. We had a thunderstorm last year. Or was it the year before?

41 miles 4220 climbing. Nice cool morning and made it back before the clouds completely burned off. Chatted with a couple on a tandem bike. Bike people sure are nice.

31 miles, 1500' of climbing. Still gassed from last Saturday's 100K, but nice to get in some miles during the week.

Zip today but rode to work and back yesterday for 20 miles total. Last 4-5 miles heading home in light rain. Warm rain. No thunder/lightning. Can't complain except now I have to clean the bike.

Any ride that includes a safe return home is a good one, but today I was just off. Only 25 miles in length, and 1% into it I already knew something wasn't quite right. Dunno was it was/is, but I had severely low aerobic capacity (even by my poor standards). I completed the ride with a 15.x MPH moving average, which is pretty average for me. I feel fine now, but who knows... We started at 7 am, don't know the temp at that time, but predawn it was 76F and 100% humidity with scattered fog. Once the sun came out, it went to 85F. Not really hot, but the still 70% humidity made it feel that way to me at least. Maybe we'll start a 2 am next time...

105 miles with 5200 ft of climbing in terribly hot and humid temps. It took me longer to do today's route than it did the Assault on Mt Mitchell earlier this year. A 5-10 mph hot headwind the last 50 miles was no fun either. Lots of stops the last 30 miles to drench with water, drink cold drinks etc. Definitely a day just trying to survive. And then I had to push my lawn mower for an hour when I got back. Ugh.

Eighteen miles on the W&OD Trail in northern Virginia. Gosh that was so much better than Lake Accotink and Burke Lake trail. Too bad even guys 50# heavier than I were passing me!

30 miles today with my buddy to downtown Milwaukee and back. We stumbled upon a triathlon going on right by/in Lake Michigan! I thought I'd been seeing more people on super nice aero bikes than usual, guess this is why.

47 miles through some beautiful Vermont countryside this morning, from South Burlington south through Hinesburg and Monkton Ridge towards Bristol. The weather was clear and in the 60s, about as good as it gets.

Got in 51 miles before noon. I'm definitely not recovered from last Saturday's hard (for me) 100K; appears to be a fact of life that as you get older it takes more time to recover from a big effort. Very pleased, however, to get the miles in. I'm seriously considering replacing the 12-30 with my 11-36. I can do all the climbs around here with the 30t and small (30t) chainring, but if I'm tired I could use the lower gearing to save my legs for later in the ride.

Twenty miles on the trainer today, also practicing unhitching from my Shimano pedals and Specialzed shoes. Nice and loose works fine.

33 miles today - the medium option of a club ride starting in Martinsville and going south. This is about where the glaciers stopped scraping the landside flat and boring. There were hills - I must confess to walking up the steep climb to the Main Forest Road in Morgan Monroe State Forest. The road leaving the state forest, on the other hand, was a screaming downhill. 
Lots more climbs and descents but nothing too steep.

In theory the route was simple: start at Erie, CO, travel up Coal Creek Trail, climb the MeadowLark to Coalton trailhead, and ride back on the Rock Creek trail.
The ride was very MUPpy up to MeadowLark. This trail is technically a MUP, but because of lots of loose gravel and the terrain, only MTBs venture on it, except for me and my rental LWB recumbent with slick road tires.
To the amazement of the other cyclists, I was able to travel the entire trail right down to the Coalton trailhead. That was pretty cool.
Unfortunately, we got lost trying to find the Rock Creek trailhead, and managed to take some God forsaken path up hills I was in no mood to climb. What's frustrating is when I uploaded the ride to Strava, it was clear we missed the trailhead by only 1/4 of a mile. That sucked.
The rest of the ride had a distinct death march flavor to it.
Considering this is my second day at altitude, I was on a rental bike, I hadn't ridden much in the past month, and I'm 60, I was pretty happy with it. "We" is me and my sil. Good times.

Two rides this weekend. Saturday hammer fest with my son (26), as I've said before, I think he is trying to give me another heart attack. 26 fast miles Today was nice recovery ride, 23 miles, still brisk pace but at my pace not his!

Spent the weekend visiting family near Vancouver, BC. Rode 30 miles yesterday with a long lost friend from university days - he took me on a favourite ride of his along the back roads of south Surrey and Langley. Fantastic cycling and very little traffic.

Catching up for the weekend rides. 62.5 @ 15.8 ave on Saturday, and 52 @ 17.3 yesterday. Great weather for August rides in Phoenix.

Twenty miles on the W&OD trail; even made it to mile 0. Woo hoo! I'm bushed but it was fun. Next time I'll take a cooler in my car and bring some water and lemonade. The Coke I brought this time tasted horrible for some reason. Hey, "sugar and HFCS are the same"...sure!

Got back from Illinois yesterday after being up there for six days. Got on the bike first thing this morning and did a 44 mile hot and humid ride at the MUP. Really felt good to be in the saddle again.

12.2 miles this morning before work.. I think the ave was close to 20.0 mph, but somehow the computer was reset and I had to stop to tighten up the light. overall I ride it in 37:44 min, including time at traffic lights and the 2 min goofing around with the light
