35 miles in 50F with wind around 18mph gusting 20+, overcast and ominous but no rain tg. Ugh.

Yeah. Most of the way to the park and back. Climbing is a blast on the Trek. I love the level uneven stuff too. But going downhill much at all makes me so nervous. It's not the speed because I have no problem with going fast uphill. There's something about accelerating and heading down at the same time that makes me feel I'm going to wind up going so fast the bike will just break away from me. Practice and practice and practice, I guess.

Almost the same ride as yesterday, took a longer detour so the total read 36mi. Even hit the same !?$&@ pothole.

Winds were peskier at the upper end of Delchester and Sugartown Roads, but I had wind at my back on the ride home. Finished in just under two hours, so averaged about 19mph. Not bad on the hilly terrain........

Went and did a very nice 30 mile ride with the Tampa Bay Sunday Rider's Group. It's been a while since I had done this particular ride with them. So, I thought that since my riding buddy is out with a cold, that this would make up for missing our scheduled 66 mile ride today. It did! :thumb:

40 mile moderate climbing ride (2500') Temps in the valley were a bit chilly, but at the 1800' summit it was strictly tee shirt weather. Then back into the valley with temps around 50 (ugh!). I hadn't ridden since last Sunday so the first 10 miles were pretty blah, but felt good on the climb and finished strong for an old guy.

jppe 10-27-13 02:55 PM

50 miles to the inlaws in great weather. First ride in about 3 weeks.

15 mile ride today at the Jersey Shore. no matter which way I rode it seemed I was always riding into the wind. Great day for a ride!

36 flat rural miles on the tandem with my stoker today. A club ride on a cool, sunny day. Very nice.

Gravity Aided 10-27-13 04:01 PM

9 miles indoors, still getting over a bit of a virus.

Ass-kicking on the MUP.

I got passed by some old guy on a hybrid. I thought it was rude on the face of it, so I hung with him and made my move up a Strava segment.

Unfortunately he stayed with me and passed me near the top of the climb.

I'm willing to acknowledge an ass-kicking by some old guy on a hybrid, but I didn't like it.

I'll get him next time.

Did 40 mi yesterday, including a group ride where I got a flat. Turned out good, though. Today, did 50 in Harriman with some big hills. Stood going up most of the hills, including this really long one: http://www.mapmyrun.com/us/thiells-n...oute-313212477.

Had not had time to ride more than 4 miles indoors this past week and Saturday i was able to get and do a 26 mile ride at 14.9 avg. the way out I felt good and my speed was higher than normal, only to find out i had a tailwind on the way out and had to fight the headwind on the way back. still it was good to be out there, 6 miles on the trainer this morning worked on intervals.

otg 10-27-13 10:39 PM

Took the mountain bike out in the woods today for about 12 miles.

Bikey Mikey 10-28-13 05:08 AM

Forgot to post yesterday. Did 36 miles yesterday afternoon.

Unfortunately this AM, I really overslept and there's not enough time to get in a really short ride.

az_cyclist 10-28-13 08:58 AM

69.4 @ 17.9 ave on the club ride Saturday, then 30.7 @ 17.9 ave on a solo ride on Sunday

Late to this party, but thought I'd report on my Saturday adventure on the C&O Canal. Got a late start because it was cold early, and only planned on doing 50 miles or so. I didn't bring much food, and didn't put on my lights. I ended up riding from Point of Rocks, MD past Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown, to just up near Falling Waters. The ride ended up being 100.05 miles, the first century ride I've done on a mountain bike. But because of my poor planning I ended up riding the last five miles or so in complete darkness. There was no moon, heavy tree cover, and no nearby roads or houses to provide any ambient light. It was just the hills to the left of me and the Potomac on the right. The deer were out in roving wild death-packs, and the goblins were coming toward me over the dead-smooth water of the river.

Or maybe that was just my imagination.

You're lucky you didn't run into Goatman.

There are some resident ghosts in the general vicinity. A pair of Indian maidens drowned upstream in the Potomac, and they have been sighted from time to time standing on the shoreline, weeping for God knows what. Maybe they get upset when the Redskins play like crap, as they've done most of the season.

One of my best rides since April when I started having medication dosage issues. 44 miles in fabulous low to mid 70's weather, low humidity and blue skies. Did several half-mile sprints and some intervals on the ride and had a sustained speed of 24.9 mph on one of my sprints. Had four places where I had to slow down my pace because of all the blind curves but I managed the 44 miles in 2:54:01.

Sculptor7 10-29-13 03:41 PM

Did 22 miles today along my ocean route. Weather getting chilly in Maine. Still a good ride, not as windy as yesterday when I did 20. Funny how different the beach looks with only one person walking a dog in the distance. Seems like just yesterday that it was crowded with people.

I wanted to. But today is prep day for a colonoscopy tomorrow! So I did work on our bikes today. Does that count!!

jppe 10-29-13 04:40 PM

40.4 miles this afternoon. Trying to find my riding legs.
