did 50 on my fixed gear bike with the group. got dropped some but had a good ride. when the wind is mild I like to ride the fixed gear. hills and rollers are not too bad but the wind can be tough. weather was as good as it can get. soon it will be super hot and high humidity.

65 miles at 12.9 avg. today! And the really good news is body parts holding up nicely. Might actually be able to finish the century on May 3rd.

87.16 miles today, home in Waltham, AM to Pepperell, MA and back. Strong headwind all the way out, crossing at time. Nice tailwind most of the way home. Had to deal with one flat.
Out in the middle of nowhere, beaver condominiums: http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/...ver_condos.jpg |
25.2 miles, gusty north winds but a beautiful day for riding.

No offense, but that sounds like a very unappealing ride.
Flat, windy, cold and bloody :) |
Walked two miles earlier today then a nice three mile ride with my wife. That's her longest ride outside this year. She's a school teacher and I think the most exercise she usually gets is carrying her bag to and from the building to her car.
Her first ride she did 1.9 miles and I thought I was going to have to call 911 when she got done. She's improving and I loved riding with her! |
I got out this morning, 34 miles, 17 out and back. Averaged 19.6 mph.

101 miles on familiar roads in MD, from the Potomac at Rileys Lock, up through Sugarloaf, and Point of Rocks and Poolesville. The only "climb" was up Sugarloaf, but still ended up with 8600 feet of climbing, all on rollers. Sometimes I long for those 5-mile, 5-6% grades like they have out west, instead of these short 14-15% jobbies like we have here.

21 miles on a club ride yesterday. Very flat except one short hill near Geist Reservoir.

60 km, lots of climbing...apparently my bike and I have divergent views on climbing...:D

26 miles 2480 ft 14.4 mph average
Metrics aside, it was a good ride with a friend. |
Horror on the MUP.
Well not exactly horror, but as I was trucking up Goatman's Gulch I heard a loud and sickening but unidentified sound. Turns out some poor woman had overcooked one of the hairpin turns and flew down into the gulch and came perilously close to pithing herself on a tree. As it was, EMS had to rescue her as she had broken a leg. Ironic, as my therapist and I had just chatted on Friday about how dangerous that turn could be if you didn't exercise due caution. Then I flatted. Now that was just tragic. First ride since my century and I felt good. Two Strava PRs (fine, wind -assisted, but aren't they all?) and one KOM. The KOM was created by me on an obscure residential road. Only a matter of time before some butthole roady tracks it down :( |

Only 16 miles this afternoon, another really windy day here.

Short, slow and several stops
...but at least I was able to ride. Beautiful Resurrection Day 25 mile ride: SportsTrackLive | Map . Temp was 82F with about a 6 MPH SSE wind and 38% humidity. In other words, a day we'll not have the likes of again until fall. Maybe. :twitchy:
Now to just get back in the shape I was in last summer (and then maybe go on and get into real shape later :D). Work tomorrow. Ick. |
45.0 miles, 17.6 ave It was a beautiful day to ride, mostly sunny and 65F ave temp.

3.6 miles from home I had my first flat. Good thing I purchased everything to do my repair…except I never put it in my bag! Glad my wife was home and brought the truck. She thought it was pretty funny. Big thanks to the other cyclist that stopped to make sure I was ok.

Forty mile club ride this afternoon on the Screamer with Favorite Stoker. Annual Pedalmentalist Easter/Passover Service ride:)
Beautiful warm sunny day. Our longest ride of the year - my stoker was wiped out after we finished. But recovered enough to work in the yard for a couple of hours post-ride. (I got to cook dinner.) |
14 miles today. 4 miles up a 7% grade. I bettered my last time by 12 minutes from January 1.

Went for a tour of the property today. Not a lot of miles but plenty of mud if we wanted it.

Did about 35 miles on mostly gravel in Loudon County, using a very heavy cross bike that was woefully undergeared (50/34 with an 11/26 cassette.) I ended up walking up a bunch of hills that were 10-12% or so, mainly because I had to stand up and couldn't get traction. And some steeper stuff was just too steep period. Lots of fun, but I was very fried from a road-bike century the day before. I ended up bailing and coming back the last ten miles on the bike path.
Now I have to decide how much of a commitment I want to make to this style of riding. I can probably get lower gearing by installing a MB derailleur on the back and a larger cassette. But the bike is still heavy and not that much fun to ride. I kept thinking how much fun it would have been with a light, sturdy carbon gravel bike with disc brakes and lighter wheels. |
Hadn't planned on riding yesterday due to Saturday's tiring ride. Friend texted me about and easy ride so I gave in. 32 miles got him to his place of work and then added 58 more, with a flat thrown in just to cap off the day.

Had to be at my daughter's house by noon for Easter dinner, yesterday. Had the wife drop me off at the MUP on her way to help out with the cooking. Met my cycling buddy there and we had time for a 30 mile ride at the MUP and I added 5 more miles riding to my daughter's house. Wish it would have been more because last week wasn't a very good week for getting in some serious miles. Thank you rain!
