Rain today, but it ended in the late afternoon. After dinner I took out the steel bike with fenders and a good light and did 17.5 easy miles on the damp trails. There weren't too many pedals and it was a nice evening to be out, spinning down the nearly-deserted bike trails. Can't break any speed records on the KHS, but it's a stable dependable ride. I would have stayed out longer but there was stuff to get done at home.

64.5 on a 75 plan day. Had to call a ride as ran out of water with almost an hour left to go. Good news - all body parts doing great and I felt like I could have finished the 75 with ease. If I can feel that good at the same point in next Saturdays 100 mi - I will be VERY happy.

Yeah, a totally frustrating experience on the local MUP. It encircles a local sports park with a bunch of baseball fields and soccer fields, all of which were in use this morning. One couple of soccer moms and dads decided that they wanted to stand on the MUP to watch the soccer game, and no number of walkers, joggers, or cyclists would make them give up their territory. Finally I got run off of the trail by a young lady jabbering on a cell phone while she wandered in a zig zag path down the MUP. I gave her a couple of dings on my bell and she moved left, but never turned to look which mademe susicious that she still didn't know I was there. I slowed down to a barely-faster-than-walking speed as I eased past her on the right, at which point she wandered right into me.
I decided to load the bike up, drove home, and road it in the street with the cars, figuring it was safer.

Metric 84 (52 mi) today on the Screamer with my Favorite Stoker. Flat to rolling hills on a club ride in beautiful weather. We took honors on being dead last but we did ride the longer route, if we get points for that.

47 solo miles to lake Minnetonka and back on the FELT (!). First time on the Felt in almost a year. It was great, except for battling gusting headwinds on the return trip. Now, sadly, it's 5 days off the bike for business travel. I'm hoping to rent a bike for an afternoon, but the weather forecast in Vienna sn't so great.

A very hot and humid Florida day but good enough for a great 66 mile ride this morning.

Road my first metric century today. Created it by adding 22 miles r/t to the starting point for our clubs Long Distance Training Ride of 45 miles. So, 67 miles, 5120' of climb.
I learned I really want to swap out my 11-28 cassette for a 11-32 one. Yes, I'm a wimp, but I could not maintain a decent cadence on the higher grades. What good is a granny gear if it isn't granny enough?
Beautiful ride, up amongst the redwoods. Beautiful weather (well, except when the winds kicked up).
Also figured out I'll probably do our club's Half Century (56 miles, 5660' of climb) instead of the Metric Century (71 miles, 6990' of climb -- yes, our club is bad at math). It's only about a month from now. And while I suspect I could manage another 4 miles, there's no way I could do another >1800' of climb!

101 miles on the Appalachian Spring ride out of Raphine, VA (between Staunton and Lexington.) 6500 feet of climbing but it felt like more. It was a small event, but the people were great:

44.6 miles at 17.8mph here in hot FL. As a native northerner, I've been enjoying great winter riding here in Gainesville, but I'm afraid thise days are gone and we're now into heat and humid conditions already. It definitely saps your strength (it was about 92 and humid in the heat of the day), so it'll be interesting to see how I fare in the coming months.
I've learned to hose down the bike after a good ride. I probably dropped 3 lbs of sweat on the frame while pedaling.

17 miles this afternoon on the long wheelbase 'bent. Amazing how it's looong cromo frame soaks up road surface imperfections. That and 32mm tires.

I rode a little today, and more yesterday(Both rides not without issues). Blew out a back tire on Saturday and got caught in a downpour on Sunday. Regardless, I'm happy that I was able to get out.

Sunday..
