I started riding again May 2 after a 20+ years of not getting on a bike. I did ride #7 today. Averaging 14 miles/ride, 1 to 2.5 hours per ride. I wanted to my first 20+ today and did 23.5 miles at 9.8 mph/hr. I will be 66 next month. I want to increase my average speed so I can go further in less time. And ride over to the beach where the scenery is better.
And after reading some of the weather posts here a hate to say it was sunny and about 70 when I started at 7 and about 84 when I finished about 930. Oh I live in Florida so the elevation change might have been about 20’.
Happy riding

21 miles today in my recurring role as Bike Commuter. Mid-40's this morning and 60's in the afternoon. Maybe today was my last day to wear tights this spring??

Did my 30mile round trip commute again, as on most days. Took the Masi today. Got a flat on the return about a mile from the house. I replaced the tube but in retrospect it probably would have been faster just to walk. I spent some time trying to find the hole in the tube so I'd know where in the tire to check for a sliver of glass. 'Twas a very small hole, but even small holes leak when pumped up enough.

Yesterday I had a fantastic and unique ride. Each year Lassen National Park closes the park road due to winter conditions including deep snow. With that they reopen the park in the late spring (sometimes early summer) after they plow all the snow off the road. When they open the first weekend the road is opened to bicycles and hikers only, no cars. I arrived Sunday morning at 7 am and I had the park all to myself, no else was around. It was cold at 5800' elevation and so I waited for an hour for it to warm up a little and also for some club members to show up. At 8:10 I suited up and took off on my journey to the road's summit at 8500'. I had the whole park to myself. It was a fantastic feeling. No cars, no bikes, just quiet, beautiful scenery, unbelievable scenery. I rode down the center of the road without a worry about being squeezed off the road. I never saw another living soul until I was about a mile from the summit, another bicycle rider coming from the southern entrance, I rode in from the northern entrance. When I reached the top there were three bikes parked in the trailhead parking lot, but no one around. Soon after four more riders arrived from the south entrance and then we were treated to the site of three skiers skiing down the the mountain peak. They left the south entrance at 6 am, rode to the trailhead parking lot, hiked to the top of the mountain (11,000) elevation and skied back down to the summit parking lot and rode their bikes back down to the park entrance. How cool is that?
I layered up at the start because at 5 to 8 thousand elevation it can be very cold, when I reached the summit it was quite cold and I was soaking wet from sweat. I knew that the ride back down would be very fast and chilling, so I sat around for a half hour to warm up in the limited sunshine between passing clouds and maybe dry out a little. Finally I mounted up and headed down the mountain, 3000' of descent for twenty miles, whoo hoo!!!!. Going down I passed many riders, including many of the club I waited for at the start. It was an awesome ride, one I hope to do again next year.

40.4 miles with my regular group tonight. Several were doing a longer ride tonight so they requested that we keep it to a comfortable pace.

I should have. But the weather was iffy... although more threat and bluff than bad. Instead of cycling I stayed close to home with a 3K walk/run (my alternate activity). Then... because I couldn't leave cycling completely alone... I drove to the LBS and bought some new shorts.

Nice pic. That looks like it could be hilly.
I did 30 miles before sunset too. I started at 7:45AM, had to work for 8hrs in the middle, then finished the ride at about 6:10PM.

In our area every ride has hills. It's what makes the rides so nice - lucky for me I like hills. The only question before each ride is how many and how high. I had to work hard last fall to plan a 15 mile pie ride friendly route for all skill levels without any hills. In contrast to some places I've ridden it's impossible to ride 50 miles here without the ride criss-crossing half a dozen times unless you ride along the highway.

50 miles today. 22 miles on the Colnago and 28 miles on my wife's trike riding with a friend of mine on his trike. What a blast that was. May have to consider getting one as an N+1.

I ride an average of 17mi/day for health and recreation (road and bike path). I've lost 61lbs in the past year and a half (18 of those twice). Not bad for an old f*rt of 68 with a twice broken back. Take that, VA!

Pretty impressive, I rode 16.2 miles tonight. Nothing fast but it is my longest ride so far.

Hmmm ... no ride today, as I read the forum posts while working on a bowl of ice cream.

Yesterday I started out thinking I would ride a 25 mile loop I have ridden several times. I've pushed my mileage up since signing up for the National Bicycle Challenge. So, as I started this loop I gave thought to including a climb that makes this loop a metric century route put on every year. I was still feeling a little soreness and fatigue from my ride up Mt Lassen, so I wasn't sure which way I would turn when I got to that intersection where I go right to take on the climb or go left to continue the 25 mile route. I chose the climb. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. When I returned to the intersection continued onto the 25 mile loop with the additional miles from the climb. I started thinking about the 60 mile distance and how much I would have to add to reach my goal. I knew I would have to add another 4 miles, so I stretched out more route distance. When I returned to my starting point I still needed 3 more miles and I continued past my start point to pick up those miles and returned to my truck at 60.1 miles. It was my longest ride to date. This was important to me to ride this distance before I signed up for a century ride. Now I feel ready to join the world of Century rides.

Ice cream? Isn't that bicycle fuel?
17.8 Today on the Sirrus (upright Hybrid). Pushed it a little @ 18mph. Even tho my biorhythms say low physical.
Amend that! Rain for two days, sun was out today and the wind not too bad so I went for another ride after lunch on the Allez road bike for a total of 33.131.
I'm Pooped!
