Glad you got in the ride. Flew to El Paso yesterday bringing 2 grandsons back home so no riding but too bad you aren't out here. Only around 100 today but humidity is WAY down so nothing like humid Cape Haze Peninsula riding, south of you, that I missed with the guys this AM.

27.5 miles this morning. Felt good to get out, even it was a little windy.

Happy 56.7 birthday! Impressive speed. Congrats.

I rode 53 miles today with the Saturday group. Legs were good for the first half of the ride to the store stop around 20 mph through rollers and short climbs. Legs were dog doo after the stop and had to ride in alone. I had a lot of "fun" last Saturday on a century ride that was really hot and humid and haven't recovered. Feel like I may never recover-lol.

Did a short 20 miles. Going on a "Father's Day" ride with my son tomorrow. Just hope he keeps it under 20mph or i'll never make it home.

You should be aware that those extra 3.7 miles can be stored away until next year. Keep them in a dry place away from sunlight and they will keep indefinitely!

Since Thursday was our 37 anniversary we did a celebration ride on the tandem today, 41.8 miles. (That's 4.8 miles I can save for next year.) Hit a few roads and place we don't normally do.

Just came back about a half-hour ago from another "Le Tour de Bullhead".

101 miles, 8600 feet of climbing, from Lexington, to Vesuvius, and the BIG climb up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Then back through Stuarts Draft, and over to Middlebrook, with a lovely ride up the valley on Walkers Creek, and back. Passed a FULLY loaded tourist (packed front and rear panniers) chugging up the 15% grades on Rt 56 out of Vesuvius climbing up to the parkways. Chapeau my friend!

Thank you, the last couple of miles were a killer, I couldn't have kept up that pace another mile.

I wasn't aware that they can be saved...now to make a note to myself that I will be able to find, or remember, next year. :)

Congratulations on the 37th anniversary!

Congratulations both of you! 37 years is really something to smile about.

37.7 miles this morning in sunshine and perfect temperatures.

The Father's Day breakfast that my daughter was going to take me to was moved up to this evening so I was able to get in a very, very hot and very humid 44 mile solo ride this morning. First solo ride on a Sunday in quite a long time as I'm usually riding with one or both of my riding buddies. Only thing that could have made this ride a little better was some wind to cool you down. Yep! I was hoping for wind today.

Last week I rode with some fast friends, did 22 miles avg 17.6 mph by the computer, struggling to keep up, bailed out at the base of a 900' climb and did another 25 (flatter) miles at about 15 mph by myself.
Today I went out with a slow friend, and did 58 miles, still pretty hilly, but avg. 13.2 mph and could have kept going.
I have resigned myself to being slow, although I keep trying!:thumb:

I met a friend at 8 this morning and we had a wonderful ride, just 19 miles, but the weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful. We pedaled down into Dunstable MA, up some small hills, where we had a nice view of Mt. Monadnock to the west, then back into Nashua, where we hopped on to a little used bike path, where a fox ran across the path in front of us, then on some back roads where we would catch the scent of the wild roses growing along the side of the road.

BF member photogravity was in town to pick up a bike, so he accompanied us in a ride, 20 miles before he had to split. My sweetie and I the went out again for a total of 43.8 miles. A very good day!

This time we stopped at Hutchins Farm at the end of the ride!

24 miles on the Screamer today. I was offered the option - as it is Fathers Day - of not having to pedal on uphill sections. I did contribute to the effort but my stoker was breathing harder than me.

But, of course.
Screamer on the left a couple of weeks ago at the HOOTS (Hoosiers Out on Tandems) Weekend in Batesville IN.

46 miles today with 1400 feet elevation gained and a nasty, at times, headwind.. Came in at a blazing 14.6 mph..

JimF22003 06-16-14 12:50 AM

50 mile loop out of Afton, VA right where the Skyline Drive ends and the Blue Ridge Parkway begins. I rode down off the parkway onto Rockfish Highway, and then back up via the road that goes past Wintergreen Resort. Holy carp, that's a killer hill! Steady 14-16% grade for at least a couple of miles, with a couple of even higher sections. No rest at all. I stopped at the pullout to the entrance to Wintergreen, which helped a bit. But I still had to get off and walk for about 100 yards right where the road crested the hill and crossed the Parkway. I had trouble even walking up that section.

The rest of the ride was pretty uneventful. Enjoyed the fast drop off of the parkway on Reeds Gap, and then back up through Waynesboro to the start.

I think I'm going to need lower gears for these kinds of rides. I use a 50/34 chainring with 11/28 cassette. That's fine for 99% of what I do, but I could really have used an even lower gear for that long, steep climb.

az_cyclist 06-16-14 07:52 AM

96.1 @ 12.9 ave (and 7159 ft of climbing). A Bull Shifter training ride for the Grand Tour. We rode from Congress AZ (and the site of the RAAM Timesation 6) to Yarnell, Prescott, Kirkland, then back to Yarnell and Congress.

47.8 miles on Sunday @ 16.3 ave. Used the Moon Valley club ride as a recovery ride.

Oceanblue 06-16-14 11:43 AM

19.5 miles at 16.4 mph. Felt great after taking Sunday off. This is the start of my third week and I logged 120 miles a week in my previous two weeks. Trying to build a good base so I may add some longer rides later this week as I'm taking a few days off later this week.

My goodness. 34/28 is the low I typically ride around here. If you need something lower still I tremble at the thought!
